The Rules

As Interpreted and Defined by Billie Hatcher.

Introduction

Hello and welcome to Crimson Wind Academy. We are primarily a Role-Playing Message Board based on the fictitious Crimson Wind Academy, an academy who's purpose is to mold and train aspiring duelist in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Upon your arriving on this forum you should register for an account. If you already registered an account here, you can pretty much ignore that last sentence. ^_^ The next step to begun RPing would be to take the Entrance Exam, and then set up a profile. Though you may just register an account, it is strongly encouraged that you take or skip the exam and create a profile should you wish to start role playing.

On the Subject of the Entrance Exam
The Crimson Wind Academy Entrance Exam is merely to test your skills in deck building to assign you into a proper rank based on your skills.
The exam forum can be found here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crimson_Wind_Academy/forum/87703/
The rules to the Entrance Exam will also be re-printed here for your benefit: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crimson_Wind_Academy/topic/70327/1
Quote:

1) Only post your exam answers once, not multiple times.
2) Do not send any personal messages (PM's) asking why your exam hasn't been graded. If it has been over forty-eight (48) hours, then you may.
3) Do not cheat on your exam. This includes having someone else do your exam, altering your exam after receiving a grade, netdecking a deck, etc, etc,. If you are caught cheating, your test will receive an automatic zero with no opportunity for a re-take.
4) You may choose to skip the exam. If you do, then you will be placed in the lowest rank, Sebek Green.
5) You can only see everything else in the forum after you've passed the test.
6) Explain each of your exam answers to the fullest extent if you want the maximum amount of credit.
7) You have three tries to pass the exam. If you fail the exam, you will get two more times to re-take it.
8) Once you have passed the exam, or are in a ranking dorm already, you may not take the test again.
9) Passing is defined as 60 points or above.
10) Unless it is deemed unreasonable, another proctor may not post their own grading on an exam if a proctor already graded it.
11) You must comply with the rules of the most recent TCG ban list. You are not allowed to use Animé, fake, Japanese, etc,. cards.
12) The following will show the required scores needed to obtain one of the four ranks listed:
Sebek Green; 0-60
Osiris Red: 61-80
Ra Yellow: 81-104
Obelisk Blue: 105-120
13) If a grade is debated by three or more members, other than the exam taker, the grade will be brought before the council, who will vote on the exam, and will decide whether or not a new examiner should be permitted to grade the exam.
Billie's Notes:
1) Sebek Green Provision has been eliminated in this copy of the rules. People should not be penalized for not having enough time, yet wishing to start RP-ing.
2) Rule number 3 has been adjusted to prevent technical loopholes.
3) Some rules have been moved around so that their is a flow between rules. More of an aesthetic choice then anything.
4) There is now a rule defining what is meant by passing, Rule # 9. I assume 60 and over is passing, though that is free to be discussed.

On the Subject of Advancement
Quote:

<TO BE DECLARED>
Billie's Notes:
1) This section is purposely left ugly and incomplete, to emphasize what facets of the board we need to get done.

On the Subject of the Role Playing Profile
There seem to be no rules on the subject of Role Playing Profiles so... I guess we'll just have to make some. >_>
Quote:

1) Fill out the profile to the best of your abilities. Feel free to write about odd quirks,
2) No canon character.
3) Be sure to include as much information about your character. (For example, it wouldn't make logical sense for your character to be raised in an average life, yet inexplicably have an underwater secret base where he monitors the entire school.)
4) Please keep any images used in your profile at a PG-level. (General rule of thumb. If you wouldn't show the picture to your grandma, don't show it to us here.)
5) You may create a second character profile, who would share the same account as your primary. However, posting a second character profile is not a guarantee you will get a second profile, as it could still be rejected by an admin.
6) Please, do not God Mod in your profile, unless your character's a villain. No superpowers or anything of that sort.
Billie's Notes:
1) Rule 2 is perhaps the most controversial rule, so let's get to defending it:
a) Using a canon character could easily lead to either logical inconsistencies or monopolizing of a decktype or theme. For example, Edo Phoenix is, in canon, the only character who has any copies of any of the Destiny Heroes. However, if we were to follow the canon, none of the users would be able to duel with a Perfect Circle deck. So, we either have a logical inconsistency of one-of-a-kind never been printed cards being used by everyone, or we have an issue where we deny people cards. Personally speaking, as a board that is meant to teach and encourage duelists to expand and hone their deckbuilding skills, we can NOT limit their card pool, and we shouldn't promote logical inconsistencies just to for one person to be able to say they're Edo. (No offense to anyone.)
b) By choosing to be a canon character, you severely limit the your own deck building skills. For example, should someone decide to RP as Yuki Judai, they'd be forced to only use Elemental Heroes, severely limiting the types of decks they could build.
c) Selecting a character that is respected and loved just for the sake of being respected and loved is rather insulting to all the non-canon characters. Respect should be earned, not granted. For example, is someone where to Role Play as Judai, they'd be the pride of Osiris Red, loved by the entire school, legendary duelist, etc. It forces the normal, non-canon characters to take note of his excellence. "In stepped Judai, the pride of osiris Red. If only I could someday live up to be as great as him, he thought as he watched the duelist take a seat." and so on.
d) A much, MUCH easier alternative to avoiding all of these problems would be to just make up a character with very similar characteristics to the anime counterpart.
Lastly, I hope we can all be mature and be able to view this in a calm and rational way. The decision is not meant to offend or be viewed as an attack on anyone. It's merely a conclusion I came to when weighing the facts. I think we can all be mature enough to not decide to quit just because your character is being taken away. Feel encouraged to discuss your thoughts.

On the Subject of Role Playing
The extended versions of the rules can be found here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crimson_Wind_Academy/topic/70318/1/
And here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crimson_Wind_Academy/topic/70324/1/
This is merely a shorter, more collected version of the two.
Quote:

1) God-modding is not allowed. For those that do not know, God-Modding, in the context of Role Playing, is when a character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. This point can be argued, however if several people are accusing you of God-Modding... odds are you're doing it.
2) Bunnying is not allowed. Bunnying is defined as taking control of characters other than your own in order to make the storyline go the way you want it to. You can feel free to instant message or private message someone, asking them to make their character do something to move the plot in a certain way, however they are not in any way, shape or form obligated to do so.
3) For the purpose of this Role Play, your character is allowed to exist in up to 3 threads at any given time. However, make sure you are not causing any holes in the plot and that you're following a specific time order.
4) When you leave one topic, and go to another, please leave a [TO: Destination with URL Embedded] in your reply. It just makes everything much easier for you, as well as any characters your character may be interacting with. If you have not created the topic yet, feel free to edit your earlier post to include the destination.
5) Be sure to every once in a while take a step back and ask yourself: "Wait, would this logically make sense? Would my character really do this in this type of situation?" etc. It's nice to keep a small sense of realism.
6) On the subject of being out of character in an in-character forum, please try to keep all out of character comments related to the RP in question. For example, something such as asking who someone was talking to, asking for an expansion of the details of an item, or pointing out a logical inconsistency or just an erroneous error would be great. However, somethings such as a corny one liner or pointing out something stupid ("haha, you said region") are not appreciated.
7) <Rule(s) on Real Time to be added here soon>

Billie's Notes:
1) Uhh... when's Real Time going to be incorporated?

On the Subject of Dueling
No rules on this, so let's scribble down something and hope it's good the first time around.
Quote:

1) Set legality, ban list being used, and card effects (My Giant Soldier of Stone attacks The Moon! lol!) are entirely to be handled by the parties involved in the duel at the time. If your opponent or opponents have no problem with you using the card before the duel, then it is fine. However, the default set legality and ban list is up to the latest set released in the TCG, using the latest official Upperdeck ban list.
2) Your means of dueling (YVD, GKO, AIM, Nintendo DS etc.) are to be decided prior to the duel taking place.
3) You are free to tag duel, if you wish, however rules must be spelled out very clearly for both parties prior to the duel, and a way of organizing the duel is to be provided by the duelists, not the board.
4) Basically, any other remaining rules not explicitly spelled out in here are entirely up to the two parties in the duel.
5) Should your character be forced into a duel as part of the storyline, and you feel as though you'd just rather not, you must speak to your opponent and find someway to decide a winner. (Yes, this includes actually not dueling, and just scripting a duel that never took place.)
Billie's notes:
1) By "card effects" in the first rule, I'm not saying little things to imitate a Duelist Kingdom duel or something. I also mean should you duel in GameKing, which as of the time of this writing is not updated completely, you can feel free to proxy in a few cards, in order to not have your card pool and deck building skills limited by the medium you are dueling by. They must be agreed to beforehand, however please do not go overboard.
2) Rule number 5 might seem to be just completely horrible, however one must respect two things about it:
a) Both duelists must agree to it.
b) Should the storyline demand a certain outcome (such as, the main villain NOT losing his first duel), this rule can come into effect.

On the Subject of Posting
No rules on this, so they had to be made up. >_> This is mainly for general posting, which applies to all forums and sub-forums. Not just the RP, but also the general sections as well.
Quote:

1) Please, keep the swearing down to a minimum. Both in and out of character. It's more of a respect thing then a "but I swear all the time anyway!" thing.
2) Do not flame, talk down, or in anyway disrespect fellow users. (This includes calling everyone n00bs or any variant.) I don't care if you absolutely hate the person. Take your arguments to AIM. (or... anywhere, just keep it out of our board.)
3) Keep the "leet speak" to a minimum both in and out of character. Nobody wants to be forced to strain themselves just to read one sentence.
4) No trolling. What's defined as trolling? It's at the moderator's discretion what is considered trolling. Just use your common sense for this one.
5) If you wish to present a point, be sure to be able to defend it. This includes for deck-building, as well as just in general.

Billie's Notes:
1) If you post something and think it might be in anyway a violation of any of these rules, please do yourself and all of us a favor and do not post it.

Closing notes

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read the rules. Mods, feel free to discuss, edit, or organize this list as you see fit. However, I'd appreciate it if most of the rules were left intact. ^_^ Hope I didn't single out anyone in reference to these rules. >_>

Agree with JeY.

Above all. I like the title.

I gave me goosebumps.. XD

EDIT: The hard work needs credits. And whoever reject this or say it's trash deserve a Shadow Game penalties. (Just kidding :p )

May I hear your reasoning for it? I mean... do you really NEED to use Ryo?

... I'll concede to that, if the general consensus agrees to it.

Do I need to give you my reasoning? No, I don't need to use Ryo, but I'm going to all the same. Yes, if I wanted I could type you up a nice little essay on why I'm keeping Ryo, but I personally think it'd be a waste of energy and brain power when I most certainly don't want to be thinking, nor do I want to be debating. =D

I'd certainly like to hear it. I mean, I took 5 or so minutes of my time to outline my position. I'd appreciate it greatly if you could do the same for me.
