Okay due to recent... things, it looks like it's time to do... something like this! =D

Basically, if you wish to use names for the chat outsaide of your characters's names, please post here, identifying yourself as such. It's just a quick little way of keeping track of who's who.

To make a quick note, almost any name can be used, as long as it's not a racial slur or swear or anything of that nature. But in the end, we, the Administrators and Moderators, reserve the right to collectively deny the use of a given chat name with or without explanation.

All Chat Owners and Moderators must be registered with Xat, so their usernames cannot be copied and mod powers accidentally given to the wrong people, as this generally results in problems.

And since it apparently needs spelling out, if a user has more than one Xat account, unless collectively allowed by the staff, only one is permitted to be online at a time. No excuses, as you can either sign out of the duplicate account, or reboot your computer, then sign out, if the former doesn't work.

Just for the sake of throwing limits somewhere right now, let's set the limit at... 3 5 different names you can pick to be in the chat, not including the names of all characters you control on this site. This is not set in stone, and this rule is subject to change without reason, and you'd be forced to comply. Try not to change names too frequently, and if you do decide to use another name, let us all know in advance, m'kay!

The second post will contain a list, showing you which users have control over which names. Hopefully it will not be too much of an eyesore. It will be edited whenever the <Yubel-Swear Word> I feel like editing it, or when Demitri, Dani, and/or Rina can edit it to add names in, as well.

Post your name choices in the following form.

Code:

User: [me]
Names Requested:
<Name 1>
<Name 2>
<Name 3>
<Name 4>
<Name 5>

Plz and thanks.

Chat Name Rules:

[Added as of October 14, 2008
Adjusted as of July 21st, 2009

1) Name Claiming:
I should note that "Bonus Characters" do not count toward your CWA character names and must be registered if you wish to use them.
Since it honestly seems that it needs to be spelled out for some people, no, you cannot register a name that's already taken. It is "First come, first serve," etc.
However, if you'd like to claim a name which, normally, would be unclaimable due to a similar name being claimed (Ex. "Hope" and "Hope's Daughter"), consult the original claimee and have them approve of its use in this thread.

If it is a situation that would not warrant said user's permission (ex. A user creates a chara named Allison Sheppard, and Wilhelmina (Billie) Hatcher wishes to, or already has, registered her dark hax Bonus Character, Allison), the chara name gets priority, and the registered name must be altered or added to, in order to differentiate the two and tell them apart (aside from one being a chat mod). To be safe, though, contact the site staff to find out if it will be alright.

2) Abbreviation Claiming
If you register a name with an abbreviatable word in it, that will not prevent other users from using that abbreviatable word. This includes: Mr., Mister, Mrs., Jr., Junior, cm, GM, St., and many other well-knowns.

3) Rule of Subtraction (For CWA Character Names only):

Basically, to make things slightly easier for all in the chatbox, you may shorten your CWA character's full name.

For example, the user Danielle Chirel owns the name: "Danielle Chirel" only due to having a character on the site with that name. Dani may shorten the chatbox name to either "Danielle," "Dani," or "Chirel."
Those are the permitted limits to shortening a chatbox username.

As such, all names that are registered in this topic cannot be shortened.
For example: if the user Rina registers the name "Ru Emery," Rina cannot shorten it to "Ru" or "Emery." Likewise, if "Hopeless" is registered, it cannot be shortened to "Hope," or changed to "Hopeful"

4) Rule of Addition (For CWA Character Names only):

If you wish, you may add a few... general words before, or after, your CWA character's chatbox name. Such as, my chatbox username may be "Hatcher01" because I'm number one, or because I was secretly born in 1901. Or I could name myself "the Hatcher" because I'm so awesome and such.

Just, try not to overdo it.

On that note, all names that are registered in this topic cannot be expanded upon.
Example 1: If the user Rina registers the name "Ru," Rina cannot expand it to "Ru Emery." If Rina now wishes to use "Ru Emery," Rina must register that full name.
Example 2: If the user Rina registers the name "Hope," Rina cannot expand it to "Hopeful," or "Hopeless." As such, another user may claim the name "Hopeless," since registered names cannot be shortened or lenghtened to cause greater confusion between the two.

Let's clarify the following a bit more:

Your CWA characters's names are already automatically given to you as chat usernames, and do not need to be listed here. The benefits of addition and subtraction apply ONLY to these names.

For example, if the user Demitri Reyveirnacus decided he was to cool to post here, he'd automatically have the name "Demitri", "Reyveirnacus," "Nanayo," "Shingetsu," and any such combination already listed available to him.

If any of these rules begin to become a big enough issue, these rules may be altered.

I'd recommend that those who can now have more, or less, names to... re-register upto 5 names, ASAP. There will be a one-week phase period to have all your chat names in order before the new name rules are cemented. What this means is, the current rules for your names are still in effect, but the new rules are in effect as well. If either set of name rules conflicts with the other, it's fine until next week. As long as YOUR name follows one of the two sets of rules, you'll be fine until the set date at the bottom of this post.

However, once next week begins, Rule Set #2 (this new one) is 100% in effect and #1 no longer exists, meaning, if your chatname does not comply with this new rule set at that time... expect something.... Because I'll say "You've had a week to get your names in order, so no excuses. (...unless you haven't been here for a week.... [which I'll bet will only apply to a select bunch])"

Simply put, "Your chatnames are okay for the week, but I suggest getting your names updated for the new rule set, NOW. If you're not ready when time's up... it's your own fault."

Note: I'd prefer that you DO NOT edit your already-existing posts, as it will be difficult to keep track between the old and the new. Please register ALL names in a new post. Thank you.

Rule Set #2 in FULL effect on Monday, August 3rd, 2009
