Vampiric pain in the ass

ATTENTION PEOPLES. Since there are so many different definitions of magic in this teaming cesspool called the internet this topic has been created to discuss the various types of magic. I personally use the system from the TV series, Charmed. This system, is where any magic can be cast by a magic user, so long as it is spoken in verse. In addition, magic users get one or more Active Powers, or magical abilities they can use without verse, that can evolve and grow stronger with use and time. After enough time, second or third Active Powers may emerge. The drawbacks of this system, is that any rhyme spoken by the Mage in question becomes a spell; and that they have to rhyme in order to make use of their magic. Their magic also seems tied into karma. Using it for evil or selfish purposes brings bad luck, while the opposite is true. Another drawback is that an Active Power can emerge or evolve without warning, meaning one has to always be on their toes; you never know when you'll accidentally blow something/someone up! Also: their active powers are semi-autonomous from the rest of their magic. Something that knocks out their Active Powers might not knock out their magic, and vice versa. In addition, the active powers can be completely removed from their Mages, and used by another if the receiving mage knows how. Now. TALK! |

Daddy, why doesn't this magnet pick up this floppy disk? Lottery: A tax on people who are bad at math. Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies. Consciousness: that annoying time between naps. Gotta run, the cat's caught in the printer. | |

Me, mines a bit open, too open maybe? I believe magic changes on the type and even the use and user. Probably my open mindedness. There's magic that's natural to nature, or to you, then there's magic that's learned and through incantation. There's magic through skill and memorization, or it can be powered and rely on the users own power and magic. Then there's how it works, typically I don't bind how a spell can be used unless it's very specific, but I do keep a realm of operation. Like manipulating water, so many ways to move it around, how to use it, what force to use with it, water source, water in a body, in the air. Then there's the wizard type who use it purely out of their knowledge, then sorcerer's who use magic by using their own innate ability to bend the world. Then there's the difference between an elementalist and the forced magic that uses powers of the elements. Although things like Roberto are a little different, it's grabbing the power that already exists in a powerful source and using it with your will to control and directed through emotions. Something harmful will be directed by hate, revenge, ect. While healing and protection is love, caring and all those. Of course this has it's own feed effect as the more you channel to control the more it tries to fill you with it. Till you lose control or stop channeling it, which if you lose control while full of wrath vs evil doers you'll lash out at anything you consider evil with full intent to eliminate till you run out of evil doers or power. =P I think I might sucka t explaining >.>... Although usually I typically use a channel type of casting so I don't have to come up with spell words (cause I suck at that). Also typically I go with there has to be a material, power symbol, or base to make something work. (which I can also tell ya what it is if you ever get curious.) |

As long as I don't have any 'Cullen' vampires running around I don't really care what kind of magical abilities they have. Certain ones will need to be limited for various reasons such as god moding. Also it's hard to predict someone's moves when you really can't read minds, lol. I believe more in the, I can cast abilities without them being spoken, but incantations for them will make them more powerful. Say I cast a fireball at you without speaking, you might get singed but otherwise it wouldn't harm you greatly unless by some chance an article of clothing caught on fire (by your choice). Then say if I did that same move but spoke an incantation, think of it as a power boost or a level up for the fire ball. It would do more damage, be more likely to catch you on fire and possibly even kill. Again by your choice. Defensive abilities would be the same way. Like if I could do something to cast a shield around myself, I could only effect myself and it would only be against maybe minor spells, maybe make hard kicks and punches feel like light taps or being hit only hard enough to bruise, not break. Spoken incantation could fortify that shield, make it stronger so that those attacks wouldn't hurt me. However if my attacker uses a more powerful spell (like a spoken incantation for a fireball or something) my shield would likely falter and I'd be hurt if only a little bit singed. |
