Storm's army, though not allowed close, gathered around their fallen king as rain poured down from the sky. No one flinched from the cold water, letting it fall over them and cool their heated bodies as their tears fell with it.

At Shadow's question, Narasu roared and Shadow had to dodge the large angry tail that swept at him, its accuracy lowered by exhaustion and mourning. If there were something to do then the dead would not be dead, would they! He could not find words for anymore to say but gave a loud mournful cry in its place.

But a soldier stepped up, skillfully but cautiously walking beside Narasu to get beside of Shadow. "You. Were you the king's trusted advisor?"

Shadow cast a side long glance at Storm, contemplating the question. After the moment of pause he looked back and replied almost coldly, "Yes. I am."

"Then come with me." The wounded soldier said, turning and leaving Narasu's side but not without giving a sympathetic pet. He walked a good distance away from the group so no one could hear their voices. He turned to face the worn out Shadow. "You ask to aid our king. We can do nothing for you. But I did not bring you here to tell you that. You can do something for him. Only those closest to him may be of any service. You must know things about him. I assume the demoness over him is his mate. You will need her. Narasu will also be needed. You see-" The soldier had been keeping quite a composed air about him but he wavered slightly and took a moment to recover. "-You see, when a king and a master of their element is killed, they are not suddenly gone. Their element fights losing its host while the status as king allows it the authority to hold off death. Sharder is clearly a king. Is he a master of his element? Has he been able to create white fire?"

Shadow smirked slightly, remembering the time not long ago when Storm had scalded his right arm up with the white intensity, then his mouth turned down in a scowl of sorrow. "He was a master. He was legendary," Shadow said looking hard at the soldier.

The soldier clasped Shadow's arm sympathetically. "His body is what is dead. If he is to return it will not only need to be healed into a form where life can be sustained but it must also not let death grab it. This means the blood must remain flowing, the heart pumping. The immune system can be left alone though he may be ill when he returns. Then you must return his soul to its home. As I've said, it is still around. The fire will not let it leave so early. You must reach that and let it know it is alright to return. This means it must be after the body is taken care of. This means you have a time limit. Narasu will be needed to get deep enough to Storm's deceased mind to get his soul's attention. Narasu is usually always in his mind so he would be the most likely to be allowed in. It is then up to you and his mate to coax it back to his body. I am not sure how this works. No one has gotten so far. Only a handful have and half of those the soul rejected the body. This will not be easy. But if it were easy then everyone would do it, no?" He released Shadow and gave a solemn nod. "Or you could just accept his time has come. There is no telling how he will be if he returns. Sorrow is hard but sometimes it must be faced. I will say nothing to anyone else. It will be a while before a new king is chosen. Without that status, Sharder cannot come back. But we will have to choose. Everyone was loyal to him but he was not a well-established king. He was hardly ever around. So I expect we shall be relatively rational soon enough. Good luck." His eyes narrowed. "And if you were lying about being his trusted advisor, I do not worry. If his soul rejects your presence, your mind will be injured. Yes. People have died. Do not let others know you will be trying this. They will not leave you alone and no one else may be near when you try or Narasu will never be able to break through." He walked away, heading back to the mournful circle.

Shadow was torn. He knew this was his only hope. It was the only chance to bring Storm back, but what if it failed. He couldn't get Crystal's hope up like that and then crush her. He couldn't tell anyone, and that meant her too. It was a solo operation, and if he died, it would be silently. With a nod, Shadow pushed back the dark sorrow inside and all around and replaced it with the only hope he had left to grasp.

The Mourning would last much longer, but the next morning the armies began to change pace. Cleaning, resting, and returning to the city. With Crystal in a state of mental distress, Shadow took the helm and allowed the other armies to take refuge in the city for the time being. While things were underway, it took several more hours and attempts, but Shadow finally got through to Crystal. "You should rest. There isn't much you can do now, and we have to take care of the body. Please understand."
Crystal knew she was spent and ready to pass out at any moment. Reluctantly, she agreed and let Storm's body be taken into the city and finally released the frozen cocoon that protected Storm's body from the outside. She followed and watched right alongside through tear filled eyes as the body was lifted onto a platform and practically paraded through the city to the palace. They reached the palace and Crystal parted ways with her love, the promise to see him again to say farewell strong. She retired to her quarters, hit the bed, and within minutes was asleep, still clad in her battle armor stained with blood and dirt.

Shadow, after seeing Crystal safely to her room and posting guards, Shadow moved to find Zakuro with absurd speed. Now that Storm's body no longer had Crystal's protection, it was only a matter of time until his body was no longer inhabitable.

Storm's army did not waste time. After they rested, they went about preparing the rituals meant for the loss of an honored King. Many were solemn but few shed tears. Storm died an honorable King but he had never truly ruled his kingdom and, therefore, barely had any ties with it. Still, they felt he deserved the honor. A group went out to the forests and began chopping lumber from only the best oak trees while other groups divided up other tasks. One group set off to tell their village of their loss and to prepare the search for a new ruler, knowing Storm had no children. Another group got together with some ladies from Crystal's kingdom, getting them designs that would need to be made into Storm's burial clothes and that were to be drawn on the coffin. Many were going through the motions very calmly, some even feeling jealousy that their King had chosen to rule this place rather than theirs.

Narasu, though, was the one from his kingdom grieving the most. The dragon, clearly going through depression and self-hatred, wandered aimlessly throughout the village, occasionally taking off into the air to spit balls of flame and give ear-shattering roars of sorrow and loss.

But regardless of all feelings, it was decided that the ritual would be carried out here for the body's sake as well as in honor of a victorious war but the burial would happen on their own land.

I didn't take long to locate Zakuro, who had been handing out orders to his troops. Without the amassed necromatic army, they weren't as large as they'd seemed. five battalions, six officers ahead of them, and then the two war gods, Zakuro and Cisca. Shadow finally came to a halt beside Zakuro and tapped him on the shoulder, his skin now returned to the alabaster it was before the war. "I have something important to discuss; privately," Shadow said.
Zakuro passed the duty to Cisca and was led off a safe distance from anyone who could possibly hear. Shadow proceeded to explain what was going on and how it was to happen in all the detail he could. Zakuro listened through to the end before finally asking questions. "So all I've to do is maintain the body in a life like state?" he asked in his monotone.
"Yes. It might not be enough, but regardless, we have to act now before the body starts to decay beyond repair," he replied the anxiety clear from his constant moving and urgent voice.
Zakuro nodded silently and headed for the city without another word. Shadow breathed a sigh of relief that he had an ally in this as well and set off for the city as well. The next thing he had to do would be to take with Narasu, but when an eat-shattering scream pierced the air, he knew that task wouldn't be an easy one. "Zakuro. You go on to the castle and find your way to the body. Try to keep it low profile, I'd love to have no trouble," Shadow explained.
He whipped a dagger from his belt and flicked it out to hold the weapon handle to Zakuro. "Take my Ares as proof that you have my permission to enter. If they won't except that as proof, then I don't think anything else will suffice. In that case, you've my permission to subdue anyone in the way, but you can't mention anything about this to anyone outside of me and Narasu. I have to go get him now, so I'll be back as soon as possible. Don't wait for me."
Zakuro nodded silently, then slipped away, his long stride hastened by urgency. Shadow's tension only grew as he heard another of Narasu's cries of anguish and with a whistle, A black mass landed beside him. "Aeroth, take me to Narasu. I must speak with him now," Shadow demanded, bounding up onto Aeroths back.
The great phoenix nodded without question and took flight, much less elegantly that usual with the amount of damage he'd sustained. With one circle overhead, they easily spotted the dragon and Narasu swooped down to meet level with the beast. Shadow called out over the sound of the winds to him. "Narasu, I need to speak with you about Sharder. It's something very urgent," he said, hoping to avoid being attacked like last time.

The large black dragon hovered in front of Aeroth, his wounds still bleeding, showing he had definitely tried his best in that war. He just wouldn't stay on the ground long enough to be tended to. Everyone could understand that, though. 'He is grieving', 'he has lost his best friend'. But Shadow, now able to see in the dragon's crimson eyes, could see that was not the case.

Storm had told Shadow countless times the relationship he had with his dragon. Narasu was not just his best friend, he was a part of him. They were tied together. Narasu did not just lose someone closest to him, he lost a part of him. The insanity, the madness that danced in those crimson eyes showed half of him was very well missing.

But his eyes were not the only thing noticeable about Narasu's state. It had been many hours passed yet his wounds were still as fresh as if they had newly been given. Storm's words could almost echo in Shadow's mind from memories. "Narasu and I are one. If one of us dies, the other cannot live." Had he meant it figurtively? Literally?

Narasu roared, still showing no sign of the peaceful dragon always trying to keep his rider out of trouble. "If it is so urgent then quit wasting words and speak! Are they asking for his body? This village will not see it! They will not have it! Their own fucking war should have remained their own problem!"

Shadow winced at the pain he could feel in Narasu's words. Still he couldn't waste time with worrying over the dragon just yet. "We can discuss the problems of the war some other time. This isn't about the village, or even about politics. This is personal. I want to bring him back! I can't say how reliable the source is, but I've found a way to bring him back to us. Apparently the soul of the king will linger until the proper ritual is performed to send him on. If the body is maintained his soul can come back."
Shadow couldn't help but feel he was wasting time trying to explain to Narasu, who likely didn't believe him. "Look, I know you and Sharder are connected. Deeper than me and him. Deeper than Crystal and him. He's said it before, that you two are one. I need you to help bring his soul back to his body before the ritual is carried out," Shadow explained, his tone more resolute now.

The dragon seemed unfazed as he kept his height in the air. "Bring him back? You want to bring Storm back? He isn't dead. Of course he isn't dead. I am not dead. Why would he leave?" The crimson in his large eyes went very dull as he spoke, glazed over, but focused on Shadow and lighted once more. He didn't give a reply, though, before taking off for the castle, for once not trying to destroy anything on his way. The large black mass circled the castle once before giving a loud roar and crashing into the windows and wall of the room holding Storm's body.

Guards immediately spun around with their weapons raised for attack before seeing who they faced. Each one lowered their weapons and backed down, scurrying from the room as Narasu released another bellowing roar.

Without considering the newly added rubble, the room was white with Storm's unmoving body laying on a white table in the center.

Narasu's eyes glazed and lighted and he growled, his sharp teeth showing. "Move!" He commanded before leaping forward. His mind couldn't handle it. He couldn't accept that his rider was dead. His large mouth snapped and his sharp teeth pierced Storm's flesh as the dragon bit him and jerked his body from the table, tossing him in the air and letting the cold object fall to the ground before lunging for it again. "I said move!"

Shadow was confused by the behavior Narasu displayed, but didn't miss a beat. As the dragon rushed off, Aeroth followed, hard pressed to keep up with the dragon fueled by blood rage. "Drop me here Aeroth. Go rest!" Shadow commanded seeing Narasu plunge into the walls.
Aeroth swooped low, avoiding Narasu's lashing tail, and Shadow dived from his back. Just before he landed, Shadow could see Narasu attack Storm ruthlessly. He was clearly driven mad by his loss. Shadow may be the only person with any sense left after the horrors of the war, only driven by the hope of saving Storm. With a burst of dark energy, Shadow hit Narasu's head and flicked his remaining dagger out, sliding down into Narasu's vision. Zakuro better hurry. Storm won't make it at this rate!
"Narasu. Stop! Listen to me and put him down, now!" Shadow demanded, trying his best to resolve the matter with the black dragon peacefully. He couldn't strike out with Storm in danger either, and he lacked the strength to fend off Narasu effectively and safe the body.

Narasu growled viciously, dropping Storm's body to the ground again but clawing at it until the clothes were almost nothing. He finally slung his head around trying to get Shadow away from him. "You insolent creature! Make him move!"

Shadow took his chance, happy to be away from such a dangerous beast. He hit the white floor and whipped Storm's body into his arms, an involuntary shiver hitting him as h felt the cold body, limp and lifeless. "Calm down," he yelled as Narasu, pulling Storm to the far side of the room. About this time, the door creaked open to reveal Zakuro's silent figure. The surprise that not only was Shadow already there, but the wall was missing and was replaced by the dragon showed only in his eyes as he closed the door behind him. "Beat you here I guess. Pass me my dagger and get to work on him. I'll handle Narasu while you do," Shadow said.
He looked around and found a cheaply made coffin meant for the body to be moved to the ceremonial coffin for the ritual. Carefully, he moved the body to the coffin and move aside. Zakuro nodded silently and passed the blade back, then went to Storm. One crimson, one azure. His irises began to swirl and glow as he knelt beside the body. Black and white energy began to pool around Storm's body as Zakuro worked his necromancy on the body. The magic slowly seeped into the flesh, something more delicate than usual. "The body isn't too far gone, but it will take time," Zakuro said flatly.
Shadow nodded, mostly to himself and faced Narasu. "Listen! I will make him move, but stop a moment dammit! I have to tell you about everything. His soul is not gone yet. He's still there, but he isn't in his body. He is floating around waiting for be released or something like that. In order to bring him back, conditions must be met. First, his body has to be maintained in a suitable condition. Zakuro here is doing that. He is going to make it so that Storm can return. The other condition is that someone connected to Storm must find his soul. You are the only one who can do that. In order for me to coax him back, you have to find him first," Shadow explained.
He didn't mention the risk of death, knowing his life was the only one truly on the line. Narasu would die without Storm anyway. It was his choice, and the only chance.

Narasu sent a roar, showing his frustration through it and giving no attention to the pebbles that fell from the walls as the sound hit them. The large dragon followed Zakuro, his fiery breath on the necromancer's back as he watched over his shoulder. "And where am I to search?"

"I was told you have to search his mind. That's the only way to find the soul it seems. You have to guide me there so I can bring him back. You have to trust me though," Shadow replied, rubbing his ears to remove the ringing.
He kept his blades drawn though, watching Narasu's every move, ready to jump at anything that could be a threat to Storm's body. Zakuro, through his power, could heal the flesh wounds quickly, but broken, shattered, and fragmented bones would take more time, and physical pressure to fix. "I'm going to repair his body. Do not impede my work please," Zakuro stated, his way to console Narasu of what he was doing.
He reach down and began to force the large fragments of bone back into place, as well and probing certain organs through open wounds to replace them as well. Hands covered in blood, Zakuro worked with a blank expression. For a necromancer, this was nothing. Bone, organ, blood; reach, grab, pull; replace, shift, repair. It was like a science to him, and all the while he maintained the magic, slowly melding flesh together and healing wounds. The last things to come would be circulation of the blood.

Narasu stepped up beside Zakuro, his eyes narrowing on the necromancer as if he was suddenly protective of Storm's well-being again, regardless of having made quite a mess of the body himself. Silently, Narasu closed his eyes and gave real focus to try speaking to Storm. Of course, he sensed nothing of Storm's consciousness or unconsciousness as he quickly got lost on where he should be looking and what exactly he was to find.

But he felt something. Something warm. Something that helped stabilize his mind. His focus. It drew him near. Like open arms. Storm? In the darkness of his own mind, the smallest of dots formed. It was a soft red color that held a flame inside and Narasu pushed his mind for it. This is Storm. The orb grew in size as Narasu drew closer, the full size being the same size as the palm of your hand. As Narasu was close enough to touch this orb with his own mind, he tried grabbing it but it floated away. Confused, the dragon reached further, pushing aggressively. The orb disappeared and a female voice spoke. "Do not touch. He is dead. Leave him be."

"No. I want to bring him back."
"He is dead. Leave him dead."
"No." He pushed but seemed to make no progress at all. The red orb was no where to be seen. "Bring him back! I want him here!"
"He is dead. Leave him dead."
Narasu's mind was reaching its limits, especially never having rested after his loss. Struggling, he called for Shadow mentally. "Use telepathy with me. It will bring you to where I am. Shadow, she will not let me through!"

Shadow didn't risk going near Narasu for any reason. Instead, he squatted on the opposite side of Storm's body and did as he was bid. It was obvious that Zakuro had not quite finished yet, but it would be best to start as soon as possible. He knew too little about all this, and was risking his own life as well.
With a deep breath to prepare himself, Shadow connected to Narasu with telepathy and follow his mind to wherever, the sensation very strange being unaccustomed to telepathy still. Who is she. I don't sense anything.

Being not as tied to Storm as Narasu, Shadow was able to see the many black orbs floating about. Being unattached to these, they showed no color to Shadow but the red orb was visible in its color as it floated with the others, away from Shadow. Like with Narasu, these orbs disappeared and a female voice came. "They are dead. Let them be dead."

The voice rang out in Shadow's head and he focused more, getting the feel for what was around him. It's not them I'm interested in. Only Sharder. The soul of fire. He called out to the omniscient voice.
The longer he stayed there, he could feel his mind drifting from his body slightly, creating an odd disconnected feeling that reminded him of being controlled by the Arcane power rather than controlling it himself.

"He isn't dead. He lives on in our memories and our hearts. Narasu is still here as well, meaning that Sharder has yet to perish. We wish to return him to his body. Tell her Narasu. You try again," Shadow said, then focused on the small glowing orb.
Sharder. It's Shadow. You should return to your body. Come back to the living. You don't belong with the dead yet.

"He does have yet to perish. His soul is on its way. Let it go in peace." The voice stayed the same. "Watch." The orbs came back into Shadow's vision, all floating around and past them on their way to 'the end'. The fiery one was with them, though the fiery one was the only one Narasu could see. The red one did not hesitate in its movement forward. "Let it go in peace." She repeated.

"How could I?! He and I were friends, and we got along so well," Shadow yelled, then he turned to the red orb as it floated and continued, "And now you're just going to walk away? You're just going to up and die and go on to rest while I have to remain behind and deal with the mess you left behind? That's not even fair. You can't just quit so easily!"
Shadow felt less and less attached to his body the longer he remained there and he knew what would happen next. If he couldn't bring Storm back in time, he'd be pulled to his own death before long.
