"Well I'm not gonna layer up. But the chest plate should suffice, right?" He excitedly put it in, fixing it so it fit properly. He froze, then, as the stone at its center glowed, attaching to him. His eyes matched the orange stone momentarily before going back to crimson and the blood shot eyes were now normal and narrowed, clearly focused. Storm smirked. "Come at me."

"Wait, hold on. What exactly are these supposed to do? I'm not really sure what I should throw at you," Shadow said.
He flipped a dagger from its place and balanced the tip on his index finger while waiting for a response.

Storm smiled and shrugged. "I have no idea. My studies only go so far. So just make me defend myself and we'll go from there."

"Fair enough," Shadow said with a shrug.
One expert flick sent the dagger whirring at Storm's head, and in moments Shadow replicated the dagger with dark copies. They came in rapid succession in a storm of daggers aimed at every part of Storm.
Shadow threw his second dagger in the midst, followed by several more copies until he vanished as the assault reached Storm.

Storm smirked, his eyes clear and focused, his body perfectly balanced and poised. Strong.

He leaped forward for the brawl of daggers, leaping nimbly between the narrow safe-spots they gave until his quick mind found no more openings. He stood and his eyes alit with bright crimson, glowing magnificently and as strongly as ever. Flames leaped up from thin air, large and lively, their color not the normal red and orange it usually was, but a bright white. It was a magnificent sight, one even Storm had never seen himself capable of doing. His concentration broken by shock, the fire immediately disappeared. All that could be seen was Shadow laying on the ground, his dagger being thrown from underneath him, and his right arm.... Not only was his entire right sleeve burned to ashes, but his arm was burned. Badly burned. Blood dripped from the wound, which in itself was unusual. Not only was Shadow known for his ability to keep from being burned, but to have this was... unheard of. The wound spiraled around Shadow's arm, blood running down from each line in the spirals that intertwined, as if individual flames danced together. The skin at the edges of each spiral was blackened with burnt skin.

Storm stood, breathing hard, his eyes wide. "Sh-Shadow, I-"

Shadow stared in amazement for a moment. The flame was indeed unexpected, but it threw his Ares dagger aside with ease and burned through the illusion as well. He then started laughing and held his side in pain before finally saying, "I never expected that! Fantstic!"
He was unaware that he'd been burned yet, but he glanced back at his dagger and laughed some more.

"I...uhm...." He walked over to him, cautiously, his eyes unable to leave the huge burn encircling his arm, knowing the pain hadn't set in yet. "Shadow, I am so sorry, I swear I didn't mean to. I had no idea I could do that. Come on, let's go see Crystal, alright? I'm sure she can fix it."

"Fix what?"
Shadow followed Storm's eyes to his right arm and saw the cruel burn wrapped around his arm. He nodded solemnly and said, "Ah, I see. Well maybe we should have this looked at then."
Slowly the numbness began to fade and Shadow could feel the searing pain setting in. The slow increase, however, was bearable allowing him to acclimate to the pain. "That was something impressive. I mean, I might have been defenseless, but it's not often I get burned like this," he said.
He picked himself off the ground, careful to keep his arm steady and away from the rest of his body. The jarring made the pain worse and more inflamed. "Don't worry about this though. I've had worse," he said walking and picking up the nearby dagger and using his element to summon the other from its place across the arena.

Storm's eyes still stayed worriedly on the wound. "Worse, yes. By me, no. I am so sorry, Shadow, I swear it. I did not mean to do this." He quickly ran about, picking up all the armor by himself to carry with them back to the castle. His apologies continued the entire way from the arena to the castle, not once being proud of the feat he'd just accomplished or the strength of the stones he'd been right about. He ran up the large staircase ahead of Shadow, dropping the armor on his bed in his room, looking over by the window at Crystal. "Crystal, I hurt Shadow!" He said, his voice cracking with nervousness as he rushed back out to oversee his companion making his way up the stairs for the room.

Shadow tried to wave away Storm's incessant apologies, but gave up half way to the castle, hope nowhere in sight. When Crystal heard the news, she was rather unsurprised. "It can't be too bad, and what's all that in your arms?" she asked shaking her head. Shadow came into the room and Crystal eyes immediately fixed to his arm. "Well that's pretty nasty. Seen worse, but..."
She glanced from her inspection of the wound to Storm and said, "This is a burn, and pretty rough for Shadow. How'd you manage that?"
She sent Shadow to get water while she spoke to Storm.

Storm looked at her, his sense of being in trouble showing evidently in his eyes and movements as he nervously put a hand behind his head. "I-I don't know, I just, we were... he came and.... white fire but... I don't know, I just did!" He was clearly as confused as anyone else. "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to do it."

Just as Shadow had, Crystal waved away Storm's worries. She put and hand on his head and said, "He's seen worse in his days. You're friends. He isn't mad, and I'm certainly not. Things happen."
She smiled at him and changed the subject. "What's all this metal you've got with you? I'm curious now," she asked.
Shadow came back with a full pail of water and and empty one, already adapting to Crystal's lack of power and need for time while working her powers now. "Ya know, this is becoming a real pain to deal with these stones," he said.

He answered her question though his tone seemed quite disinterested. "It's armor for you and I. I made sure to have them infused with the stones. " Not focusing, he didn't notice he hadn't explained the transformation he'd used on the stones.
His eyes shot up as Shadow entered again and they immediately went back to the wound. The worry did not leave his eyes so he sat on the bed to keep himself out of the way, watching as Shadow took his place for Crystal to work on him. He felt odd, being the one to watch instead of the one being healed, still no sense of pride at his feat.

Crystal knelt at the foot of the chair where Shadow let his arm hang, then she began working her power against the strain of the stone to heal him. Both Crystal and Shadow showed no worry nor spite at Storm for the injury, rather distant as if it occurred all too often. "Still, I'm quite impressed you managed to surpass the collar and do so much damage," Crystal said.
"Yeah. Like this, we might stand a chance against the enemy."
Shadow stopped, the though of the enemy and the impending danger dawning on him again. He sighed and added seriously, "What is the plan after this though? There isn't much time left."

Aeroth crossed back into the kingdom, and landed at the top spire where he and Shadow had been before. Shadow, I return with information
Shadow nodded to himself and then said aloud, "Aeroth has come back from recon too."

Storm glanced at Crystal and stood, picking out the chest plate of Crystal's and walking over to her, slipping behind her and strapping on the plate, knowing he interupted her work. He pulled away once he had it on her properly and securely. "Now try healing him, dear." His voice showed he was still upset.

"Shadow, we're as ready as we'll ever be. Once Aeroth gives us a time on when they'll be here, we'll set up the army. You will be in control of them. I will be on the front line. And Crystal will be fully dressed in her armor, watching from up here." He looked at her. "And unless I fall, I want you to stay here. That's a compromise, isn't it?"

With the breast plate secured, the stone resonated for a moment, then settled and Crystal could feel the restricted flow vanish. The sudden freedom startled her and she gasped before accustoming to it. A devious smile touched her face and she stood from healing him. "All right. Let's try it then."
She whipped the water from the pail in one fluid motion and it was alight with an ultramarine glow. She encompassed Shadow's arm and for a moment it sat still, the light glinting from the water, then the liquid slipped from his arm and funneled back into the pail under Crystal's control. When she released her power, the water returned to a clear state, tinged with the red of blood.
Shadow's arm was healed, tender pink skin remaining where the burn had wrapped around his arm. "Incredible!" Crystal exclaimed turning to Storm while Shadow looked at his arm with approval and relief.
"What is this?!"

Storm shrugged, his eyes on the newly healed wound. "I've been doing some research and found ways to manipulate the stones restricting us. This way they not only are rewired from hurting us but they're rewired to enhance us. I had that put in the armor so we're on our top game for the war. So is Shadow gonna be alright, now?" He asked worriedly.

In one fluid motion, Shadow flicked both daggers from their sheath and threw them either side Storm's head. They zipped past and cut into the stone wall, missing his head by millimeters. "Feels pretty good to me," he said with a big grin, then walked around to pull them form the wall.
"I thought I'd be joining you out there," Crystal asked finally with a scowl.

Storm closed his eyes tightly, his body bracing itself but not moving a single inch, not knowing whether to trust Shadow or not. His eyes opened slowly as he heard bother of the daggers hit the stone wall behind him, but his body was slower to relax. He glanced at Crystal, though, for her question. "You know I really don't want you out there, Crystal. What if something were to happen to you? I would not be able to handle that and you know this as well."

Crystal looked ready to protest, but seemed to resign herself to Storm's insistence and constant worry. She pulled at the breast plate and lifted it off, tossing it on the bed with slight reluctance. "All right, you win. I'll remain here in the castle. If that's really what you want, I guess I can't fight against it."
Shadow sheathed his blades and said rather off to the side, "I'm going to go get the report from Aeroth. I'll be back soon."
He left with a silence, and though it seemed he slipped away, the moment he left Crystal looked at Storm with a hurricane of emotions in her eyes, waiting to for his reply to her acceptance.
