He finally stopped in one of the much lesser visited hallways, leaning his back against the wall and sliding down it, his hands wrapped around the collar at his throat, his face showing his distress. He seemed to be having a great problem breathing and he had his eyes closed tightly. "Just... breathe....come on!" One of his hands finally dropped to his heart and clutched tightly. He leaned forward, then, and slammed his back as hard as he could into the wall. The stone wall cracked in several places and his shout of pain echoed down the empty corridor. Once his head quit ringing, a gasp of air filled his lungs and he felt his heart regulate its beating from the unsteady rhythm it had acquired. He let his shoulders and back relax, knowing it would be nicely bruised later. No one would know it, though. He never had a reason to remove his shirt anymore. He ever-so-gently pulled the collar as far from his throat as possible and was able to fit two fingers underneath, to see the extent of the wound, but it only ended in a sharp hiss and a quick removal of his hands from it. "This is ridiculous!" He hissed. |

"It really is. I presume you haven't made any real progress in that front considering you still have that contraption about you," Shadow said materializing from a patch of nearby darkness that the wall torches failed to light. Though he clearly wasn't in any fit condition, his body was far superior to a human, or even demons, his body naturally tougher and more resistant to cope with stress of using an element. It was healing quickly on its own. "I'll help you with that however I can. After all, I reside over five realms. I'm sure I can get something done," he said with a reassuring smile. Crystal saw Aris and her eyes narrowed, her irritation finding an outlet. "Aris, please come here for a moment." |

Storm jumped high when he heard Shadow's voice and he hissed, taking some deep even breaths to keep his heart normal. He growled, defensiveness showing this wasn't a playful task for him anymore. His instincts were working for him as Shadow began approaching too close. "You're supposed to be with Crystal and the others." |

"Sorry to startle you," he said taking a step back, seeing Storm's claws drawn. "I figure with that fellow named Charlie near by, all the people in the cafeteria, and Zakuro, she should be well enough. Of course, I don't know how far we can trust Zakuro, but I'm more inclined to believe in him after so much time learning about him," Shadow explained, setting his right hand to a dagger and shifting weight idly from left to right. |

At Shadow's small retreat, Storm seemed to relax a little, his growl softening. "He seems trustworthy enough. He's helped me with a few things. I haven't found a reason not to give him a little trust. What makes you doubt him to begin with?" Aris glanced over at Crystal and hissed, but came to her at command, bowing in respect. "Yes." |

"his lifeless gaze, those mixed eyes..." Shadow paused a moment and thought. "And that dark past that they hold. It's...Much like...the look you get..." he added, careful to choose his words. Now wasn't the time to pick a fight, and he wanted to help Storm from this situation, or being a prisoner rather than an adviser. Crystal nodded and said, "Do you know anything about..." A thought occurred to Crystal while thinking about the stone that was places in her cuff. "Anything about Arcane shards? or those of manufactured shards?" |

He hissed. "And what look is that, hm?" His mood suddenly changed and he gave a soft whine. "Are you saying you don't trust me?.. You're... supposed to be my best friend...." His eyes bore into Shadow's now, showing the intense mixed emotions he was feeling, even the ones he wasn't showing. Aris rose from her bow without permission. She shrugged. "No, I don't know much about shards, let alone Arcane. Why?" |

Shadow couldn't help but chuckle slightly at Storm's insecurity. "Of course I trust you. I didn't mean it like that at all," he said, subduing his laughs. "I trust you as much as I do myself. I meant the dark and painful past you harbor. I know what secrets you hold behind it all, but his eyes hold the same pain, and they hid things that he doesn't want to surface." He glanced around, making certain that no one was around after he said that, even though he sensed no one. These talks were for his ears only and he knew that all too well. Crystal sighed inwardly, but said, "Because I've heard about them before, as well as other form of magic stones. Might there be anything about magic stones here." Crystal was trying to look further into the cuffs, and Zakuro paid close attention to this as the waitress took away his finished meal while bringing Crystal hers. |

He let his gaze fall to the floor. "I don't know, Shadow. I don't know anything about him. I just...I don't know." His growling had subsided and he struggled to get up, taking a deep breath to steady himself as he got to his feet. "I don't supposed you have any lies I can use for if I need to tell Crystal something?" His breath could be seen, even though the temperature in the castle was warm and comfortable. She smirked. "Why don't you ask your advisor? That's what he's for. Or is he as useless as I told you he would be." She paused. "Now, your Highness, you wouldn't be trying to break the kingdom's hold on you, would you?" |

Shadow fought the urge to help Storm and brushed a patch of dust from the loaned shirt he wore. "Hmm. Already escaping from the marriage I see," Shadow jested, "but if you tell her your going shopping for trinkets or something, she might buy that, or maybe that there is cleaning to be done. Those worked for me, of course we had different conditions too." Shadow chortled thinking about how they used to like with Rufus in Stixis. Zakuro narrowed his eyes, picking up useful information about the situation Crystal was really in. "First of all, you are far less accomplished than he is. The only reason I ask you is because I know you used to be the records keeper, and thus would know if there is something. And you can guess how I found that out," Crystal stated with a sense of triumph. "And secondly, I enjoy it here, unlike you I'm sure. I have other concerns with the magic stones," she said thinking about the Arcane stones, and others that she knew to make her lie more credible. |

Storm growled. "Yes, because shopping for trinkets is going to send me back home with half my back covered in a black bruise." He sighed deeply. "You know, I really want..." He sighed and shook his head. "I don't know what to do, Shadow. My physical and mental health are being affected my this damnable collar. I can't even use enough of my power to keep myself warm anymore, let alone fight in a war in less than 2 weeks! I can't think clearly. All I want is to tell Crystal and have her make me relax like she does and make me feel better and to have you beside me, because honestly, I'm scared as shit right now and I don't even know why! Could you explain that to me, Shadow?! And I swear this wound this collar has given me is badly infected but can I get to it? No. No, I can't. Can I even stop using the levels of power it's restraining me from? No, no I can't because if I lose all my heat, I'm done for, and I need my powers for a lot more than just that. It's messing with my heart, it's messing with my breathing... I've even tried drugs the last few times, to use them to replace some of my power fall. Heroine, drinking, smoking. Can't say I haven't taken a liking to them. All I want is to curl up and have Crystal hold me and stroke my hair like she does and..... but I can't tell her. She's been nothing but mad at me lately. I-" He cut himself off, glancing at Shadow. "See? Can't focus. Sorry to make you listen." He seemed to really be lacking the emotional support he craved, thanks to the past he did have. He always craved a much higher need for it than usual people, but Shadow and Crystal had adjusted to that. The problem is, he rarely spoke when he needed something, and much more rarely did he say what he actually needed. He wanted a safe haven. He turned. "How did you get away from the table without Crystal keeping an eye on you and make sure you're healing?" Aris hissed at her. "Yes, of course we have such stones here. We create some. If your little advisor is so good, why can't he tell you these things?" With that, she turned on her heel and began walking away. |

Crystal snapped at Aris as she attempted to leave with the upper hand. "Did I happen to dismiss you? No, I don't believe I did." She stood and strode to Aris, standing in front of her. Crystal stared coldly through Aris and after giving plenty of time to let her rising anger seethe through her gaze, she said, "I will dismiss you now to bring me what I asked for." She let Aris from her sight and walked past her whispering, "And I do intend to escape your grasp. It's about time I run things right around here. Just be glad I don't snap you first." Shadow hadn't realized Storm was under this much stress and said, "Well, since you told me, at least now I know I can help you. As far as escaping..." Shadow had to stop and think. He left like he always did, and though he was headed to his room eventually, he was going to Storm first. "I just left casually like I always do. Of course I don't have tendencies to cause as much trouble as you do. Maybe I just don't seem like I'm doing cruel things when I leave. I'll help you out with that though. As for the collar, I'll need to take a look at it." Shadow didn't dare to move closer to Storm though without permission. He was in the lions den now, and one wrong move could end in a fight. |

Storm growled slightly at Shadow's subtle request to come to his wounded area but, as Shadow did not move, he relaxed slightly. He sat back down, resting his back against the newly cracked stone, wincing as he did so. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a rolled up paper with herbs as the contents, using his own fire to light it. "Fine. But be easy. I don't want you doing anything besides looking at it. No attempts of freedom today." He took a draw on the joint, letting the smoke swirl out from between his lips, visibly relaxing. Aris, a look of shock on her face, forcibly closed her mouth with a hiss as Crystal left her and stalked out of the room, shoving the drapes aside, with a sharp "Yes, your Highness!" |

Shadow slowly and without to sudden a movement, squatted down beside Storm and looked at the orange stone set in the collar. It had no depth to the stone, only a surface level color that seemed to glide around in a random pattern. Upon closer inspection, Shadow found that the movement did make a pattern, but the symbol it created was unknown. The clasp for the collar was nonexistent, which was puzzling, but not totally impossible. "Well, there isn't a clasp anymore, which I'm sure you know, but the color is only surface level and it makes some symbol that I don't recognize, but someone else might. I think a spell was cast. it isn't in the stone, but it is cast just on the surface," Shadow explained. He didn't know much about magic, only elemental and Arcane power, but Storm might know more about it, or at least know someone who did. Any information had to help some. Crystal sat back down and ate her food in relative silence until she finished. Stuffing the last piece of bread in her mouth, she swallowed and looked to Zakuro and Lazura. "Things are going to get pretty tense around here soon. I have to break this cuff on me, and more importantly Storm before the war. If you don't want to be too involved, you should leave in the morning," Crystal said as kindly as possible. Zakuro understood perfectly, nodding to Crystal. "Before I leave though, there are just a few things I have left to do. If I'm gone in the morning though, don't be surprised," he said in his monotone. Crystal smiled, people vanishing in the night like that common occurrence for her now. They all stood and Crystal lead them from the dinning hall. "I'll take you to a room you can use until you leave in that case." In just a short walk, though many turns, they arrived at a room that was intended for guests. Charlie came trotting up and stood by Crystal, having just missed her exit from the dinning hall. "Feel free to stay as long as you need though." Zakuro nodded and entered the room with Lazura before closing the door gently behind them. Crystal sighed, feeling a burden lifted from her. "I'm going back to my room for a bit Charlie," she stated, and they went in that direction. |

Storm took another draw, letting the ashes fall to the ground as he took yet another, the whites of his eyes slowly turning bloodshot. He rose and finished smoking, killing the flame and putting the remains in his pocket. "Let's go back to my room then and get something for you to draw the symbol on for me. I cant know what to do until I can see what you can see." He pulled at the collar in pain, though it seemed less painful to him after the smoke. He turned and led the way to his room in silence, shutting the door behind them as they entered. He saw Crystal and spoke as if nothing had happened earlier between them, though made sure the light and his hair shadowed his eyes from her. "Do you have any paper?" |

As Storm entered the room, Crystal smelled something strange. "I think there might be some on that table, but do you smell that Shadow?" Shadow tried to play it off, remembering how keen Crystal could be. "Not really. At least nothing out of the ordinary," he said moving casually to the table Crystal had pointed out. He found a crudely sharpened pencil and pulled the design from memory of what is looked like. 私. After he put them into the best image he could, his drawing skills barely on par, he showed passed it to Storm. Though Crystal was interested by this, she ignored them as best she could, still feeling irritation at Storm from earlier. |

Storm looked at it, running through the fairly high amount of languages he'd learned throughout the years. Confusion crossed his face countless times before he flipped the sheet of paper into the air, letting it flutter to the floor. "It means "I". What good does that do? Clearly it can't mean literal I, as in me. I've tried getting the sorry thing off and nothing's worked." He sighed, letting the paper with the image burn, not letting his fire touch anything else and letting it take the messy ashes with it. He rubbed his temples, wanting nothing more than to curl up with Crystal and have her lull him to sleep with her in his arms. So many unanswered questions, so much to do and prepare for. It was weighing on him. A crash was heard outside, though it seemed a great distance away. Storm raised his attention to the window, going to it to see. He cursed as he saw the dim flickers of his own element in the far distance. "They really are coming. And we're running out of time. We have to be ready before they get here. That means-" He felt the cold wave wash over him. The army was what he'd kept his mind and main focus on, but it had been so long since he'd had to run a kingdom for him to have remembered everything else the king was to assure. Having the army prepared wasn't even the half of it. "Bloody hell! How the hell could I have forgotten such things!" Stress ran anew through his veins and he grabbed some more papers and a pen, drawing, writing, wadding up and throwing away out of anger. Though there was no way his mind could be functioning properly at such late an hour after such a horrendous experience while on a high from his drugs. He continued to draw feverishly, though, his drawings making no sense even to him. His hands shook apparently but he paid them no heed. (Not gonna lie, kinda really did kick my butt for not thinking of the other necessary things o.o) |

Crystal tried to ignore his grunts and curses of frustration, watching the night clouds fluttering through the sky under a half moon like liquid silver. Her peace and admiration though couldn't hold through his disturbances. She swept from the bed and moved with fury to Storm where he sat at the table, Shadow watching the distant light of the enemy. She slammed her open hand into the table, stopping any further progress from Storm. "Can't you just rest for a single moment?! I can't even focus on anything with all your noise over here. It's getting me frustrated just listening," she nearly yelled at him. |

His defenses instinctively rose and he turned to face her, growling and matching the level of her voice. "You try figuring all this shit out on your own! All you have to do is let me figure all of this war shit out for myself and wait for me to tell you what to do! A little unbalance here, isn't it?!" The light hit his face and eyes head on, showing the bloodshot from his high. As soon as the words left his mouth, his eyes widened, his mind mixing reality and fantasy. His growl immediately died and his voice drastically lowered levels as he quickly tried to hide his eyes once more with shadows and his hair. "I-I'm so sorry. I did not mean that at all." He rose from the table and disappeared from the room, the door shutting loudly. |

Crystal turned to Shadow and said, "I'm going to follow him. try to keep a low profile tonight," she said then ran after Storm, leaving the door open. Charlie was stand just outside and the moment she left after Storm, he set to move, but Shadow's hand found his shoulder. "This is something between them. Best for us to stay out." Crystal kept on his trail, a struggle after the recent stress. When she could finally see him, Crystal sprinted, feeling a connection to her element boosting her forward. She managed to snatch at his wrist and twist him around, just enough to slap him in the face, a hit with a little too much force. She skid to a halt after this, not letting him escape again. Now, rather than fury, she was filled with a burning passion with a goal. "How could you possibly degrade me like that!?" |
