Storm turned the knob and cracked open the door quietly. "It's me. Storm." He said before he finished opening the door, knowing Shadow would have been on his toes. He shut the door quietly behind him and glanced at the books sitting aside in a stack, showing they'd been read previous to what was being read now. "I didn't know you were so into reading. I would've moved you to the library instead if I'd known that." He smiled, his voice showing his teasing but also his shaken thoughts. "Mind if I sit?" He nodded to a chair, feeling obligated to ask permission at the moment, not feeling as comfortable with Shadow as he usually did. It was because he never thought of his connection, his liking, to Shadow so it had come natural to him. Now he was being forced to think of it and he was conscious of everything he did and felt. |

Shadow heard Storm's voice and say his face and immediately felt his posture relax. He smiled naturally and welcomed Storm in, nodding his head dismissively at Storm's peculiar politeness in asking to sit. "Well, I do enjoy books, and when there really isn't that much else to do, it really is a great time passer. I'm rather surprised by what's written in some of these. It's amazing. This one here is written in four languages from Elemental and what I assume is the native language here. I can't quite make out those characters, but I get the general idea." Shadow left the book open on the desk and shifted so he could be comfortable while talking with Storm. "So what brings you about so late at night?" Zakuro, after taking off with Lazura, found his way back to Wateria and took refuge in the slums. Lazura had assumed her human form, much to her discomfort, and they were staying in a ratty inn. Lazura sat on the bed , back to Zakuro in the darkness. "Why do you stay here. Why not go back to your kingdom and bring order?" she asked him merely out of curiosity. They sat in silence for a long while, until Lazura had given up on an answer, until he quietly replied, "There are people here who need my help. If I let this place fall to ruins then what can I stand for." Lazura accepted the answer in total silence until after the nothing had dragged on for a time. "And that man, Storm. He seems familiar. Like me. He's a good person." |

Storm smiled kindly and nodded, listening to Shadow. "There are some books that help with translating. I had to use them when we first arrived. I could find them again for you if you'd like?" He sighed shakily when Shadow questioned him. "It's just... I proposed to Crystal tonight and she started talking about the wedding and I'm just.... I'm so nervous, Shadow. And I don't even know if I can get together everything and everyone she wants me to to make this night perfect for her." |

Shadow's eyes narrowed slightly as Storm brought up the engagement. "Well, I guess now's as good time as any," he said with a sigh, then his expression changed, landing on something halfway between hostility and friendship. "You'd better not take this commitment lightly. Crystal is the happiest I've ever seen her with you. You might be my close friend, but if you hurt Crystal, you will regret it in more ways than one." As he said this, his expression was unrelenting, the dark grey in his eyes solid. Storm was worried about this, and Shadow wasn't helping in the least, but Crystal was like a sister to him now. Shadow wanted them both to be happy. "I know you've always had troubles with these kinds of things, and I don't want you running out on her." Shadow finally relented, the harshness going from his eyes as he added, "However, if there is anything I can do to help, I will. You'd never be able to get through this alone. No one would." |

Storm's nervousness sky rocketed as Shadow brought up his inability to handle this and his past partners he'd always ran out on. He had felt so certain that he could be what Crystal needed him to be, especially since he hadn't left her yet. He'd actually thought this all through. And now everything left his mind, all his reasons, all his convictions. Matched with the nervousness and stress it took to make the proposal amazing for her, his heart began racing again. "You... don't think I can do it?" He closed his eyes, taking a breath to calm himself. "I'm trying my best to make this everything she could want. I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm still trying. I don't understand weddings or gatherings or even being tied down. But i do understand having a mate and whatever 'tied down' means, I don't think I'll have to go through that because she can keep up with me. I do understand loyalty. And... and I think I understand love. I really want to do this, Shadow, and I wouldn't want her hurt anymore than you do. And I know she would be hurt if she didn't have this perfect wedding, and that includes me getting, somehow, the number of people I need. So, Shadow, will you please be my best man?" He swallowed, his nervousness hitting his anxiety and making him slightly nauseous, especially not knowing if the only person he could call friend would be there as his best friend. |

Shadow listened to Storm's worries and the like, but when the question fell, Shadow found himself staring dumbly at Storm. "You want me to be your best man?" He was totally baffled for a moment, then he came back to, collecting his thoughts and composure again. He stood from his chair and walked to the window that stretched high to the ceiling. "You know, I've seen a lot of things out there. Things that some people wouldn't, or rather couldn't begin to understand, but I never thought I'd hear something like that from you." He stared outside at the daunting darkness that had soothed him through his years. "Well I did say I'd help with whatever I can." He turned and smiled, giving a small shrug saying, "And besides, how could I turn down a friend like you." He bowed and finished saying, "I would be honored to the utmost to be the best man." Shadow replicated Storm's infamous smirk, his dark grey eyes radiating slightly in the dark under the window. "I'll even throw a bachelors party fitting for someone like you." Storm laughed at Shadow's comment on this rarity. "Well, it's not like i foresaw this either." He blushed lightly when Shadow mentioned their friendship and he quickly rose from his seat, turning swiftly so it couldn't be seen. When Shadow mentioned a bachelor party, his blush vanished in placement of his confusion and turned back to Shadow questioningly. "A bachelor party befitting someone like me? What's a bachelor party?" |

Shadow gave a look of thought as he rifled through his memory. "I guess to best explain it, A bachelor party would be a celebration of your last day as a single man. Ya know, before your tied down and can no longer do as you please however you want and whenever you want," Shadow explained then added in good nature, "Though like that would stop you either way." Shadow looked for a sort of understanding from Storm, already thinking what he could probably plan out. |

The confusion remained in his eyes. "Well, like what? What kind of things do you do at one? I'm not sure how'd you'd celebrate the "last day of being a single man", honestly. I've been one my whole life." He laughed softly, shakily. "Almost wasn't. But have been." |

"Well I'm sure she doesn't like you doing crazy things like staying out all night, picking random fights, drinking, and more or less doing anything that doesn't involve her. It'd be a day with just us guys to do what guys do I guess. All the things the women complain about ya know," Shadow tried to explain to the best of his knowledge. "Though I'm sure you'd do those things whether she likes it or not," Shadow added with a sort of devious smile. |

Storm guilty scratched the back of his head. "It's not like I mean to do those things. At least I haven't drank since we've been here." He sighed and dropped his arm. "Besides, that sounds like a full night of worry for her. Fun for me, but worry for her. And isn't a marriage supposed to be taking things as a team? So doesn't that defeat the purpose?" His eyes stayed questioningly on Shadow. "Is this really a socially acceptable event in cultures that have weddings? Did anyone think to think it through?" His eyes went to the window and the moon rising high in it. "Speaking of being out late...." |

"Well it probably started the way you think it is, but I guess over time it just warped into something that was almost customary. I'm not that great with these things really, but I know it's what most people do at least." Shadow looked out the window as well, the half moon piercing through the night in white glory. Shadow smiled at his thought then turn back and walked back to his chair, taking up the book again. "Go on back to her. I'll be fine here," he said with a dismissal of his hand , but in a friendly manner. |

Storm gave a kind smile. "Thanks for talking to me. And for accepting my request. Goodnight." He walked out of the room, closing the door behind him, and going down the corridor. He opened the door to his room quietly, slipping in and closing it just as quietly behind him. "Crystal? Are you still awake?" |

After Storm was gone, Shadow smiled to himself. "Ah love is quite the interesting thing isn't it Aeroth." Aeroth spoke back from afar. "I wouldn't know having never felt it myself, but it seems to be something quite special." Crystal was sprawled out in the bed, sleeping soundly as the night dragged on. |

Storm sighed, cursing himself inwardly. "I'm going to get in trouble. Again." Instead of moving her, for fear of waking her, Storm took a seat in the chair near the window, sitting in it sideways with his legs going over the arm rest. He stared outside, his eyes on the moon. His thoughts coming free. How far he's come. From being a child, to a prisoner, to a sex slave, to a full on wanted mass murderer, to a loner who killed anyone who even caught a glimpse of him... to a man getting married soon. I've handled all of that, somehow, but can I handle this? Can I do it right? He closed his eyes, finally noticing how tired they were, but he didn't quiet his mind. He still had a war coming that he wasn't prepared for. Before long, though, his mind drifted off into sleep. |

The next morning Crystal awoke just as the sun crested the trees on the horizon. She rolled lazily on the bed disengaging herself from the tangle of sheets and covers. After stretching and a yawn, she looked around and found Storm sleeping in the chair. "He's so hopeless, but at least he's sleeping again," Crystal said to herself happily. She pulled herself out and bed and walked over to him, giving a gentle kiss to his cheek. "Morning my Demon King." Shadow hadn't gone to sleep. instead, he had gone out when the guards were changing to the morning shift and took a walk around the grounds, getting the lay of the land better and enjoying the dew stained morning. |

He slowly came to, showing the depth of this sleep. He opened his eyes and looked at her, it obviously taking him a while to register. He finally yawned and stretched, arching himself over the armrest, his back bending perfectly to it. He finally relaxed again and spun in the chair, hopping to his feet and giving her a kiss on her lips. "Good morning. Sorry I was so late last night." He removed his shirt, going over to the drawers by the closet for a new one. "You have anything planned for today?" |

"don't worry about being late. And I think we should probably start to worry about this war thing. We certainly don't want to get hit while we are down. It needs to be taken care of," she said seriously. Crystal was no stranger to war, and she hated the grief and destruction they bring. She didn't want anything happening to either sides, but at the least, she wanted to protect the people she was now responsible for. "Did you have plans?" |

He slipped on his new shirt and also holstered a knife at his waist and hid one in his boot. "Absolutely. Totally agree. Glad we're on the same page. Let's go, then." He finished and grabbed her wrist, then paused, looking at her. "Absolutely not." He unstrapped his belt and knife and holstered it onto Crystal's waist before he again grabbed her wrist and led her from the room, shooing away the guards that came to escort them. Anger boiled in his eyes as his mind whirled, but he spoke calmly to her as he led her from the castle and down the street. "You always hate how guards come to us and how it makes you feel like you can't handle yourself, right? And, as queen, you haven't got to take anything dangerous upon yourself. Surely you're itching to take that out on something, right?" He immediately made his mind stop. The thoughts coming to him were yelling at him that this was not his better judgement. And he hadn't the time to hear that. "And this war could be the death of both of us if we don't have an army to help. To be honest, I'm going to be on the battlefield when this war comes and you will not. Don't yell at me for it because I'm not changing my mind and I have the entire village on my side on this one. They wouldn't risk their Queen and they hate having a demon around here. But I do need help training them, getting them up to par. And I need you for that because you're one of the few people I feel can handle them with me." He stopped and turned around, releasing her and facing her as they stood outside of the military training building. "So, are you willing to help me train them? Or would you rather go back?" He knew he sounded like an asshole to her, but while he was speaking to her he was fighting with his own sense of judgement, the one telling him not to be an idiot and not only risk a queen, but the one person he'd do anything for and could admit to himself that he'd lose his mind if she was not at his side as his mate. He would make sure she would be safe during the war. But, with her here helping him train these men, he knew it would get done right. And, if anything, it would keep his adrenaline up long enough to train them if they decided to attack her for good. |

Crystal was surprised at the sudden change. It brought back rushing memories of all the times they had been together for the moment they had met years ago. It pulled her back to the times when she was truly an Arcane, fighting along side Shadow, Jaden, Amber, Clairy, and Rufus. She felt likes she'd become softer, but this brought back what she'd been missing. The adventure that she craved and lived on. Her eyes grew colder, but more avid and a smirk touched her lips. "You think I'd turn this down? You know me better than that. I'll stand and fight no matter where it is, and We'll train them to do the same. Oh, and you won't stop me from joining the battle field. You know that though too don't you." She Pushed her way past him toward the barracks but stopped a moment, "Well, c'mon. We don't want to keep them waiting now do we?" she said with a strange charm to it, both cute and menacing. Shadow had wandered his way to the barracks where he found many of the people slacking off and cutting up. After watching for a short while, he dropped in and showed a few of them some of his dagger techniques. "It's really quite simple, you just have to focus on it and work at it a lot. You guys don't seem to work at anything much though." The insult hit, but seemed to bounce off the five soldiers who had gathered around him. The barracks were a mess, and the army was worse. He knew the war would be lost with this kind of army at their disposal. He needed to talk to Storm and Crystal more about the deal. |
