I just read in the Quintanarroense that 1,800 athletes have already registered for the Ironman! That's exciting news!

There was rumor that there was money owed to the Ironman organizers and that Cozumel would not be able to host another event untill it was paid. Have the powers that be gotten past that issue ?Ironman is a great event and helps tourism on the island so I hope they can continue to host it for a long time

I could be wrong, and i have to confer with fellow news junkie Karen, but I think they got the $$ part all resolved. It's a great event, good for tourism and very inspiring.

i think there are more than that. i registered 2 and a half weeks ago and have bib number 2198. they upped the registrants to 2300 this year. so if numbers are correct, very few slots available. i have been reading on IM blogs about some folks coming here instead of florida IM due to the oil spill. plus cozumel simply got great reviews from new and experiences IM participants.
training is in full swing for me. i have been looking for sponsors from helping offset the cost of the bike to providing cases of gatorade!anyone? anyone? clinica san miguel has generously donated to help me meet my goal. woohoo! nov 28.

i am still trying to get my bike via ebay. bidding on one and hope to have one ready to bring back down when i go up early july. swimming about 2.2km (1.4miles) daily and teaching my cycling classes. started running up to 10k and was doing well then one day my hamstring decided to not work right. seeing scott kirscher to get me back in whack but gave me 4 more days of no running so it can be ok again. so doing lots of swimming. little by little i will increase time and distance. it's crazy!!!

Nauticab - Be careful about which vendors you use on Ebay. Lots of bad product listed & we hear many complaints from folks who buy bikes there. If the vendor's a bike shop, better to contact the shop directly so it doesn't have to pay Ebay fees -- you can save quite a bit that way. 2011 bikes are in the USA and the model year change is July-August, so there will be a lot of bikes on sale very soon. Plus there are many, many leftovers from previous model years. If you know exactly what you want, let us know & we may be able to help.

thanks deb. i actually have been conferring with my ex who is and has been a cycling afficionado for about 20 years and knows his stuff, the years, the model, the components and has been been giving me great advice. i won't be able to afford a newer model full carbon fiber frame with ultegra 600 or better components. those are running over $3000. but i am looking at trek 5500 and trek 5200 bikes. bidding ends on this one in about an hour.
however, if i don't win, if you know of anything, size 54, full carbon frame and fork racing or tri bike, with ultegra or dura ace components, under $1200usd, PLEASE let me know. i can get the aero bars separately if need be and pedals are easy to come by.
i have my shoes, but still need my tri suit and aero bars/pedals if the bike doesn't have them. if you have any deals on all the do-dads of bags and cages and water containers in the front, that would be great. thanks again for the advice. i was looking at some of these "Great" deals for new off brand bikes and my ex warned me against them..... i trust his bike judgment due to the extensive experience he has (riding, tuning, building).

Joe,
The subject of the money owed came up months ago. I think it's probably been resolved. Otherwise, I don't think there'd be so many registrations.
Time will tell.
