A.J. Recalls Shier Days

Alan Jackson says that he's changed somewhat from his early career days, when he was very shy. He says he's more confident now than during the time of "Chasin' That Neon Rainbow," but recalls how one of his band members reminded him of his shyness early on. "I hired this drummer right after the first hit or so," Alan tells Dial-Global. "I was playing a club in Kentucky and I was supposed to meet him backstage ‘cause he lived in Lexington. Later, years after we'd hired him and we were good friends, he said, ‘I'll never forget the first time.' He said, ‘You never looked up when you met me. You wouldn't look up. You were so shy you wouldn't even look up to take to me.' So I'm a little better than I was then, but I'm probably more ornery than I was then, so a lot of [laughs] changes." In other Alan news, Universal Studios Florida is considering using his hit, "Gone Country," as the soundtrack for a new roller coaster called the Hollywood Rip, Ride & Rockit Coaster. The Orlando Sentinel reports that the theme park is currently surveying customers on which song they would choose out of a list that also includes AC/DC's "Back in Black," Sheryl Crow's "All I Wanna Do," Ricky Martin's "La Copa de la Vida" and the Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" to be the background music that riders hear while on the coaster.
