| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! This idea was inspired by a Spore creature I made. The Eryorhynchosapiens is a six-limbed, centauroid sapient on a planet with slightly lower gravity than Earth. Their alien face percieve the world around them with two, bifocal eyes. They have a long, boneless proboscis with a horizontally-opening mandible, surrounded by a ring of tentacular lips. Two breathing holes reside in the base of the trunk-mouth, of which they speak through. Their cephalic osteology consists of a skull with fenestrae for muscular attachment points for the trunk-mouth as well as for hearing. It consists of no mandible at all. The anterior pair of limbs are freed from the ground, and are oblong. Three fingers are extremely flexible, while two, fused fingers lie beneath these dextrous digits. Their four feet have four-toes, and are tetralaterally symetrical. They also sport a long tail, tipped with thick, coarse hairs. They are used for sexual display in both sexes. The anus is located on their chests, as well as their genital slits. Many of their cultures are highly religious, and some individuals, especially leaders, wear eleborate face-paint on their probosci and forehead, mostly to represent their religion, but can be for artistic purposes as well. They also like wearing rings on their tails. This is a rough description of the species. As said above, it was inspired by a Spore creature of the same name. I wanted to add a little more realism and complexity to it. I have been drawing the face of this creature on paper, with facepaint included. As of now, this species is at the 16th century level. I thought this would have been an interesting idea that I would like to share with everyone. I will eventually draw a picture of this species in Flash. |
