| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Or that large gooey thing between your ears, that uses loads of energy. If you don't need it then it would be advantages to get a smaller brain. |

I had an odd thought that might've already been bought up, but some senses require a lot of maintenence, physically. If you live in an area where the materials you need to develop eyes are scarce, they might not be so useful. I dunno. |

It is like having complicated surveillance equipment, handy in the old world, but in places where it can't be maintained it is a waste of resources. |

Thanks. This answer is probably most satisfying as it also answers why creatures don't just accumulate senses and features.

I wish more religious people were like you Sayf Udeen (you are fully religious right ?) You don't rule out another scientific evidence, and are open to these theories, for that I respect you. I wish I understood more about Muslim and other religions. When you go to a Catholic school all they teach you in theology is Christianity/Catholicism , and they only thing they know about other religions are preconcieved notions about them, and claim other religions to be superstitious and wrong. I usually protest against this and point out falicies and contradictions of Christianity during class, but the teacher and other students usually get angry and one student tends to suck his teeth(i should tell him to suck something else )

Confound religious schools. Damn labour for supporting them. Your right about Sayf, if more moslems or religious people in general were like him, it would be a damned better world. |

Oh wow. I just came back to this topic to remind myself of what the animal onthe show I was watching was called [and the name of the show itself] and I found this. Thanks Venatosaurus and Lamna. ![]() To tell a bit of a personal tale, growing up I was heavily interested in Zoology, Biology and the like because of my older brother who was pretty much the biggest science type guy I've ever met, and then I hit highschool and kind of got involved with a bad crowd and basically chose to throw away any chance of grasping things at that point. Now, I am trying to pick up the pieces but have found the idea of Evolution as the theory stands unsatisfactory compared to what I observe and such. But that's just me, I'm not here to tell people what they should believe, and I do enjoy trying to gain a perspective of what other people think and try and learn on that. It's good for conversation both online and face to face. ![]()
I don't rule out Sceince because I can't think of a single instance where it contradicts the Qur'an. Even in regards to details on how life got to the point we're at now, be it through creationism, evolutionism or what have you it's not explicitly written in the Qur'an. I'm no sheikh or scholar, but from what I believe and can gather from Ahadith and the Qur'an itself is that what we don't know from the Qur'an, we should be open to explore for ourselves and in that way we can better understand what has been created around us. Alhamdulillah. I am fully religious. I believe in God, and that He sent Muhammad as is last of 124,000 Prophets 110%. And I have no doubts whatsoever and insha'Allah hope I never do. May Allah [swt] keep me steadfast. Ameen. I read Qur'an, I fast Ramadhan, I pray five times a day. ![]() I converted to Islam, from being what I'd call an Atheist/Agnostic/non-religious guy. I grew up in a Catholic family and did all of my schooling in a Catholic school though.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll do my best to answer, and if I can't I'll find someone who can. Insha'Allah kheyran.
So true. I became a Muslim during my family year in a Catholic school, and can honestly say that Catholic school probably is what initially drove me towards Atheist/Agnosticism which then lead me to Islam [Alhamdulillah always.
I remember doing this too back in 2007. My VCE [final] year, after I had converted to Islam. Subhan'Allah. I drove my teacher nuts. ![]() Thank you again for the kind words. Peace, Sayf. Ps; I'd like to thank you all also for your respect. ![]() The only other [almost] mainly Atheist board I've been to is the Richard Dawkins one. Not a fan. Sayf, may I ask what aspects of evolution you find to be unsatisfactory? |

Oh don't mistake this for a atheist* dominated place. I have found most people here believe in something supernatural or spiritual. JohnJaa is Paganish and Parasky is into Buddhism without all the Indian religion that tacked on to mainstream Buddhism. *I wish there was a better word to use for people who believe only in what can be observed. Atheist just means that someone does not believe in god, and most of the names that have been suggested sound really rather smug. |

Tecnically, I'm a spiritualist with strong pagan connections, and that could very well connect me to Taoism and Shinto. Though my personal beliefs differ from some points given by those two asian philosophies |
