| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. It's hard for me to choose a favorite project (I've probably spent the most time reading and gotten the most enjoyment out of the Library through just its shear quantity), but one project that has always really captivated me is Abacaba's 2D World Project. |

Favorite of all time? Probably The Future is Far for its vast scope and the originality of many species. 2D World has to be a very close second, though. After that, I'm fond of Ilion, Serina, and - does it count? - the "last vertebrate" contest. Off-site, the Nauceans have a special place in my heart. |

As with the creatures census, its hard to pick favourites here. Still, some projects that have really stood out for me: -The Future is Far, by Dragonthunders -Terra Metropolis, by Sheather -Proxima B and its sister project Centauri, by Akurian452 -Beetleboy's Sylvaria was quite good while it lasted. |

That's quite suprising, since the project is new and I've only posted one species, it means a great deal to me, friend. |

Wanna hear something funny? I've been on this forum for a third of my own lifespan Oh, and how could I forget? I really liked Akurian452's Man After Man Revisited, too bad it's been inactive for so long. And - offsite again - herofan135's Urban Future. Edited by Dromaeosaurus, May 25 2018, 02:53 PM.

The Great Song - such wonderful detail and charm, has such a distinctive and comforting feel to it The Alithocene Epoch - proves that you don't need a 'gimmick' to have an excellent project. Such good quality critters 10 Million Years of Rain - I could talk so much about how much I love this project, it's got such a wonderful flair and style, and very original creatures Viam Alternatus - probably one of the best realistic mythology projects |

For me it's The future is far - Really nice project, that has inspired me to create my own spec creatures. Rich man's ark - This project pretty much inspired me to get a account on here, my first project was heavily inspired by it, and i like how thr community decided on which creatures should be brought in. We need more of these on the fourm. Diyu - A very intresting project, i love the nightmarish beasts this project has spawned out of it. |
|
Projects in work Raparia Future project ideas: Tale of the horned beasts - A alternate evolution project where ceratosaurus never went extinct and instead evovled to better fit the new challenges they shall face ahead of them. Umber - A alternate universe project where portals have been opening up to a moon named "umber" other then a few species of freshwater and saltwater fish, as well as invertebrates. Pangolins,Iguanas,Noasauriade, and Cuttlefish are the most prominet group of animals. | |

My favorite projects? Hmm.... - A Million Years BC and Jurassic World 2.0. Both of them take two topics that tend to be, well, kinda looked down upon here and making them into truly unique worlds that make you constantly yearn for the next update. - The Xenologist's Hollow Earth is utterly fantastic, not just for its incredible take on the classic concept of a lost world, but the sheer amount of work that was put into everything from the animals to the individual islands. |

Nereus by Empyreon is a wonderful and beautiful world that though not as richly detailed as it could be comes to life due to the large number of beautiful illustration. But my most favorite would be Borea, by the long-absent member Heteromorph. This one inspired me more than any other single project and the concepts he brought up were particularly pivotal to my choices regarding some of Serina's finer details such as myrmecophytes and extinction events. It hardly got off the ground, but the ideas laid out were so wonderfully new, innovative and yet seemingly very plausible. There are few really thorough future evolution scenarios on the forum and I felt this one had incredible promise, and indeed would be overjoyed to see him return with anything new for it in the future. Troll Man's last turtle contest entry too was exquisitely immersive, though that may or may not qualify? |
