Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

how exactly does the claw of arthropods (crabs, lobsters, scorpions ...) - how did this structure form and if is possible the similar structure in a vertebrate?
and
how and why mammals became viviparous? Why did the development of the fetus inside the mother replace the eggs? Could this happen to birds and reptiles, for example?

Are there any species of non-avian Dinosaurs known that definitely evolved from another known dinosaur?
It's pretty well agreed upon that Triceratops horridus evolved directly into Triceratops prorsus for one, and that Daspketosaurus horneri evolved from Daspletosaurus torosus, but other than that there aren't really any confirmed examples of anagenesis on a named taxon basis in Mesozoic dinosaurs. It's believed that there are other examples of it Late Cretaceous North America (the Daspletosaurus thing has been on the table as part of this idea for decades before officially being written upon recently), but it's otherwise very hard to determine when such events occur from the fossil record. You often need large sample sizes, and a relatively continuous record between two or more species to be sure, both things most Mesozoic dinosaur genera are lacking.

Even then, these are species that are unanimously agreed to belong to the same genus, and since most dinosaurs are only ever regarded of at the generic level, it's much less obvious where one genus could have evolved directly into another since they're liable to be more greatly separated in time and by their morphology.

That said, parareptiles may be a polyphyletic grouping according to recent unpublished work

I can definitely see that. After looking at a lot of parareptile skulls for my newest spec endeavors, many of them look absolutely nothing like each other. They look like various true reptiles and reptilimorph amphibians lumped together.

Would it be possible for an amphibian to mate similarly to anglerfish, but instead of the males latching on with the mouths they latch on with something else? Part of my tree-like temnospondyls idea has a species of which the males are caecilian or snake-like and form part of the tree-like female's body, acting as extra heads like Medusa for catching smaller prey.

To my knowledge, the process through which anglerfish join their host mate isn't directly tied with the mouth - it's just that for them it's a convenient way to get a secure grip without evolving a special new appendage. Frogs already have appendages just for grabbing so I figure it's as possible as any other method of frogs evolving to meld with female hosts.

This was a mystery to me for a long time, but it's pretty simple, it's just a modified leg.

The top part of the pincer is the last joint, while the lower part of the pincer is just a big outgrowth of the second to last joint.

I don't know if something like that could happened. I guess if a animal grew some sort of bony or horny projection from their second finger joint.

this is a silly question but it has like an animal to have a posture biped like a human, with hooves and legs like those of an ungulate (like a minotaur)
I do not know if this leg system is the most suitable for a biped march

so, basically almost any ratite, then. yeah, it works fine.
(ostriches may not have outright hooves, but short toes and hooflike claws)

Apart from the primitive ichthyosaurs without dorsal fins, are there any other extinct animals which resemble the dinosaurs and other reptiles depicted in the Crystal Palace?
