Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

After a discussion on discord, it appears my project has a fundamental flaw I have been overlooking all this time. I have absolutely no idea how to work with continents or climate. I have also disregarded the effects the absence of vertebrates will have on the ecosystem. There would be a mass die off almost immediately. And deciding what would die and what wouldn't is nearly impossible. There's also the fact I was super vague regarding plants, which is a massive, massive, MASSIVE, mistake.

So, I have decided I may need a reboot. For starters, here's some info about the planet. It is 1.5 times the size of Earth, it orbits a sun like star, and it has one moon similar to our own. The most notable feature about this planet is the fact that it has a straight axis, meaning there is no seasons.

Here's a starting list for animals that will be introduced.

This is for suggestions, ideas and potential criticisms.

Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

Quotes

In terms of megafauna, the main candidates I have in mind are millipedes and land crabs

This founding species list is by no means complete, however, I would like to establish the geography or climate first.

I'm having trouble with specifics for mites.
How about the Antarctic Mites? They can survive incredibly low temperatures with little food and still thrive. Could make for some spec potential near the poles.
Current Projects:
Alien Earth
Ultimate Pangea

Potential Future Projects
Future of the North Star: TBD

I would like a more widespread species

What about funnel webs? They are found on every continent but the poles. Or Atypical tarantula which are the same with the exception of Australia. There's trapdoors too.
I like oranges
I also like a wide variety of Abantu abathandekayo, Happy Birthday!

This probably isn't plausible, but what about, as an ambush mesopredator, a terrestrial or fossorial mantis shrimp that hunts like an antlion, by using its claws?

It's a little to specialized for my tastes.

Hmm, maybe. But I already have a Chilean Rose Hair. Which is the more generalist of the 2?
