Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

As far as I know they are rodents. There doesn't seem to have been much change there.

Something more normal and less disgusting this time.
Are you implying that webspinners and viper fish are somehow disgusting?
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

Well, you are scientifically, unequivocally, and objectively wrong.

But our true god and savior Palaeoisopus said so, so it must be true.

I suspect that IIGS is trolling us. or disagreeing simply to be contrary.

(or disagreeing in pursuit of that ideological thing IIGS was doing a while back - if its spineless, it must be better than a backboned critter)

I was joking. Plus, I dont promote "invertebrates". I promote arthropods. That term is meaningless in almost all contexts as many so called "invertebrates" have endoskeletons, including some sponges, echinoderms, and a number of cephalopods and gastropods.

But hey, let's not stray too far.

Uhm, you do know that being a vertebrate isn't about having an endoskeleton, right? So those "fake invertebrates, because endoskeleton" are still as much invertebrates as the others. :p

wait, I thought chinchillas were part of the rabbit&cavy family (lagomorphs),,,did that change, or were they folded into Caviomorpha?

Rodlox.... Cavies, chinchillas and caviomorphs are still rodents. Where did you get the idea that they were lagomorphs?

No, it isn't. People here don't do it, and science doesn't do it. Anyone with any knowledge on the subject will never call a sponge or a squid for example a vertebrate, and anyone without any knowledge on the subject will probably not even know enough about sponges or squids (again, for example) to confuse them in such a way with vertebrates. I'm sorry, but it's just wrong in any way, shape or form.

So clown-nosed trilobites are a thing. This fellow is Sphaerocoryphe. I should probably do a post on weird trilobites at some point.

Kalligrammatids where a group of lacewings that lived from the middle jurassic to the early middle cretaceous. They are noted for their resemblance to butterflies. Not only do they have butterfly-like wings, but they have a proboscis as well. Basal species have more distinct jaws. Their way of feeding (pollination, is unique among lacewings. The presence of eyespots on the wings of some species where probably used to deter predators, as in many modern moths. They are the largest lacewings (and among the largest of insects for their time), with Makarkinia adamsi having an estimated wingspan of 160 mm.
