Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Ya know, after looking at all these spec creatures, the blue doesn't really seem that big. But anyway, I think the giant or colossal squid should be added to the bunch of real creatures because they are the largest mollusks but their size extremely exaggerated by the media. Also, is anything from the Library being added? It seems like a pretty extensive and detailed project.
Giant squid aren't spec creatures...

The Library doesn't have many species that are particularly large, but I agree that it would be a nice addition.
Hey.

I know giant squids aren't spec creatures. But dragon added a bunch of real creatures for scale, so i'm saying that the giant squid should be added to the bunch.
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

You know, I don't recall anyone saying you can't make a scale pic of your own.

Calm down, it was just suggestion. If he decides not to, that is fine.

Giant squid would actually make a good creature for size comparison, come to think of it.

Well, going back with this...

I think that as a good way to finish the year and is to show a last and good amount of WIP, in this case about thee species that exist and that existed for the spec size chart, since, from the beginning, one of the original ideas for the first version was to expose several of the real giants of our world, but, because I was using silhouettes made by other people, I felt that they would contrast the art styles too much, so I decided to take my time to create each animals too, and now at the end, here they are.

It has been somewhat complicated, since as many know, there is always one or another exaggeration, speculation or even misinformation about the maximum size reached by certain species, especially extinct species. So I have taken some precautions about it to avoid forming some kind of discussion about "this should be bigger". As, because this is still a WIP, there are still some missing species which I probably would add in the future.

Another thing, being honest, my skills to draw real animals as extinct are a bit rusty (or rather much) so sorry for some poor and deformed animal :D

I take it these are maximum estimates? How long did you make the sauropod?

Yeah, although some of them are based on the specimens found instead of their assumed possible maximum size, like Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Triceratops and Dunkleosteus just to mention.

Interesting, didn't realize blue whales got that long. The sauropod is larger, but not by as much as I thought.

I thought so to, but comparing it to the rex, it seems fine. Mostly tail; the rex looks bigger because of its bulk.

Yea something seems off about the size of these dinosaurs. Either that human is larger than the average bear or these dinosaurs suffer from dwarfism. Or maybe I'm just dumb. I've never been good at measuring.

its not easy to make fish look adorable without turning them cartoonish, but your Leedsichthys succeeds; congrats on that and all the other elements of this artwork.

That's because a lot of fish are naturally sort of cartoonish.
Hey.
