Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Ummmm, I'm pretty sure they are close relatives
Non Enim Cadunt!

No idea how to actually hold down a project.

Humans are actually just sentient sex robots created from a mix of pig and chimp DNA.

The original lizard-like appearance of dinosaurs was right.

Snakes are actually derived worms.

-Xenarthrans originated in Cretaceous Antarctica from a numbat-like species of primitive insectivorous placental mammal; the species in question possessed a highly reduced metabolic speed, allowing it to skate through the harsh winters caused by the Chicxulub bolide's impact while most other neighboring species died out. In the early Paleogene they spread to South America; while both the Antarctic and South American lineages also thrived, the former became extinct during their continent's glaciation, leaving only the South American groups.

Some of my ideas (nothing real yet, but soon):
Refugium: A last chance for collapsing ecosystems and their inhabitants.
Pansauria: A terraforming project featuring the evolution of exactly one animal - the marine iguana.
Mars Renewed: An insight into the life of Mars thirty million years after its terraforming by humankind.
Microcosm: An exceedingly small environment.
Alcyon: A planet colonized by species remodeled into new niches by genetic engineering.
Oddballs: Aberrant representatives of various biological groups compete and coexist.

..and probably some other stuff at some point (perhaps a no K-T project). Stay tuned!

Human behavior has nothing to do with general primate behavior: our minds are entirely controlled by Toxoplasma-like parasites that became embedded in our nervous system millions of years ago.

-In the Proterozoic, there existed a small, odd group of reef-building, multicellular diatoms supported by silicate lattices. As the eons passed, they began to decline with the advent of more advanced competition; they were nearly wiped out by the first sponges, but eventually managed to lose their dependence on photosynthesis and move into the abyssal depths of the deep sea at some point in the mid-Cambrian. Their descendants perfected the silicate lattices of their ancestors, and became the glass sponges.

-Caseids managed to become fully aquatic and survive to the P-T extinction in a variety of sirenian-like forms.

WAIT

ARE YOU GUYS HIDING SOME KIND OF CONSPIRACY

Oh yeah, and vertebrates actually came first, they're just missing from the fossil record.

Charles R. Knight-style reconstructions of dinosaurs were actually more accurate than any modern restorations.

Mokele-mbembe is real, and it's not a sauropod - it's an EXTREMELY derived anomalocaridid.

That ones actually true.
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

That's actually a cool idea, we need more of this in non P-Tr and less of "Gorgonopsids and dicynodonts, and maybe some other stuff".
