Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Theropods are derived from bipedal crocodylamorphs
It was an Epoch of Raptors, an Epic of Mammoths!
Nice
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

Birds are actually ornithischian dinosaurs - the saurischians produced the near-identical Enantiornithines and some superficially identical groups, but birds as we know them are descended from a tiny arboreal species resembling Kulindadromaeus.

We have a Discord server! If you would like to join, simply message myself, Flisch, or Icthyander.
Some of my ideas (nothing real yet, but soon):
Refugium: A last chance for collapsing ecosystems and their inhabitants.
Pansauria: A terraforming project featuring the evolution of exactly one animal - the marine iguana.
Mars Renewed: An insight into the life of Mars thirty million years after its terraforming by humankind.
Microcosm: An exceedingly small environment.
Alcyon: A planet colonized by species remodeled into new niches by genetic engineering.
Oddballs: Aberrant representatives of various biological groups compete and coexist.

..and probably some other stuff at some point (perhaps a no K-T project). Stay tuned!

The hedgehog is actually a legume, and genetically engineered humans by injecting a pig embryo into the womb of a chimpanzee and supplying the embryo with steroid infused blood (of both parents), high doses of panda porn, minion memes, and highly distorted Metallica songs, creating the perfect tortured organism.

(Why do I do this to myself)

Dolphins are more intelligent than we are, and are capable of interstellar flight.

So long so long so long so long
Mice are actually extremely intelligent organisms, capable of interstellar communications, and in possession of most of the knowledge in the universe and enough business know-how to put that knowledge to good use.

On an unrelated note, anyone here know what 6 X 9 is?

*INTERNAL SCREAMING*

-A sapient species formed a burgeoning civilization on the shores of Lake Vostok in Antarctica prior to its glaciation; they were wiped out by the rapid freezes brought about by the opening of Drake's Passage.
-Rhynchosaurs survived until the Oligocene as blind, tunneling gnawers similar in appearance to reptilian mole rats.
-Life only originated once in the universe via unknown means, and all other life is merely the result of panspermia or intentional colonization/seeding of planets. BONUS: The origin of life in the universe is Earth, with all "aliens" being descended from Earth biota transplanted elsewhere at some point in the past.

Tyrannosaurus rex is actually in the Tarbosaurus genus; making it Tarbosaurus rex
That would violate the rules of nomenclature though.
meh, its not like we call T.rex "Deinosaurus rex", so its already violated.

If that's true then we would develop faster than all other aliens and be seen as the invaders not the invaded. And then we would conquer them all in a 'Spanish conquistador' style.

But "Deinosaurus" isn't a synonym of Tyrannosaurus, how does that work?

-Placoderms didn't evolve bony jaws independently of gnathostomes, and all modern jawed vertebrates are actually evolved from a placoderm ancestor instead of cartilaginous acanthodians.

Oh hang on a tic.

To be honest, I actually forgot about that (I swear). Also, tetrapods and lissamphibians evolved independently from different fish
