Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Well, by now we're mostly just putting in stuff that some what fits the criteria and trying to out do each other. That level of competitiveness qualifies as a game.
This was getting fairly big.

All supposed alien life is actually descended from early terran life transported to other planets
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

All supposed alien life is actually descended from early terran life transported to other planets
That was, interestingly enough, a premise used in a trilogy of sci-fi novels called The Quintaglio Ascension, by Robert J. Sawyer. The main characters were sapient descenants of Nanotyrannus whose ancestors had been transported from Earth to another world (specifically a moon orbiting a gas giant somewhere) millions of years earlier. As it turned out all other known inhabited worlds also had descendants of transplanted Earth life (including one world that had developed a civilisation of sapient Opabinia descendants).

That's really cool.

Nanotyrannus is not a valid genus

After decades of searching, we finally find life within the solar system. Microbes are found after a deep drilling operation in the Hellas basin, and are discovered to have a similar, but very altered biochemistry. The same general kinds of molecules were there, but they had completely different arrangements than on Earth. Then, as the mechanics of these microbes are being studied, multi-cellular organisms were found swimming through the oceans of Europa and Ganymede, surprisingly with the same biochemistry, proving panspermia possible within ecosystems. In the decade to come however, exobiologists were baffled at the results coming in. Enceladus and Titan had life from the same family tree as the Martian microbes. Even Venus has similar microbes floating through its atmosphere. While few can come up with any theory as to why Earth is different, one crackpot conspirator states that our planet is a recaptured rogue, which is gaining much support despite the contradictions with astronomy.

Nanotyrannus is not a valid genus
1. are you going to argue with a bodiless superintelligence who survived the death of its home universe and birth of our universe, avoided going mad during the first 10+ billion years, and worked out how to spread life across the cosmos without any sort of physical body at all?

2. its a published book from when Nanotyrannus was a valid genus.

A probe is sent to Europa and it successfully drills down to the subglacial ocean.

I actually agree Nanotyrannus is not valid, but I am just saying what the novels depicted its sapient dinosaurs as being descended from.

There is an extant prodanatan waiting to be discovered in the deep amazon. It was actually seen, but ignored. Explorers assumed it was a regular dragonfly, so they though nothing of it.

Hate to nitpick, but it's spelled protodonata.

Scorpions are actually descended directly from eurypterids.

The plates of stegosaurs were not for display but actually housed symbiotic algae. Stegosaurs derived most of their energy from the sugars photosynthesized by this algae.

Apologies. I felt like I needed to put something down for the plot twist, and that was the first thing that came to mind. It's been a while since I looked at the very beginning of this thread, given the automatic transport to the most recent thing you did or viewed on a thread.

Nah, it's fine.

Ctenophores, sponges, cnidarians, and placozoans are related and form a monophyletic clade called diploblasta
