| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! What would be the biggest biological plot twist? For example: Scorpions are actually not arachnids, but eurypterid descendants |

Speculative Evolution Projects- Other Relevant Work- Final SE Lifelist standings BREAKING NEWS We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this cutting edge report. ATTENDANCE DROPS DRASTICALLY ON SE SERVER This past Monday on Discord, famous server Speculative Evolution took a hit in the attendance office when it's offline member list suddenly reappeared. Mods scrambled to rectify the situation, but unfortunately there was little anyone could do. Server member Ivan was asked what he thought of the situation. "So long as Flisch, lord of machines and scion of Urborg lives, all will be well". SE, (in)famous for it's eccentric userbase, has recently been spiraling downward, and now we have hard conformation of the decline. Moderator "High Lord" Icthyander states "There is nothing to be concerned about, Discord is merely changing its UI again", but members are beginning to suspect the honesty of their staff. Stay tuned, we'll be back with more at 11.

The megafauna of pre-glaciation Antarctica was comprised of non-avian dinosaurs and dicynodonts.

We have a Discord server! If you would like to join, simply message myself, Flisch, or Icthyander. Some of my ideas (nothing real yet, but soon): Refugium: A last chance for collapsing ecosystems and their inhabitants. Pansauria: A terraforming project featuring the evolution of exactly one animal - the marine iguana. Mars Renewed: An insight into the life of Mars thirty million years after its terraforming by humankind. Microcosm: An exceedingly small environment. Alcyon: A planet colonized by species remodeled into new niches by genetic engineering. Oddballs: Aberrant representatives of various biological groups compete and coexist. ..and probably some other stuff at some point (perhaps a no K-T project). Stay tuned!

Aliens passed on their DNA to mesozoic mammals and our rise to sapience was that result. I definetely didn't get that from any known source material like a graphic novel or anything (chuckles nervously) |

Alien life uses DNA/RNA. I've always assumed something different would arise but it's quite possible that most/all roads lead to DNA and RNA. |

-The Cambrian Explosion was the direct result of highly-advanced aliens heavily modifying an Ediacaran proarticulatan animal species to produce multiple tissue layers, possess movement capabilities, and utilize bilateral instead of fractal/radial symmetry (let's say that Spriggina was either the end result or the base of this project). This was done as an experiment of sorts; given that they had remained so stagnant over the course of several dozen million years, the aliens decided to see if the introduction of this super-species would enhance the rate at which the other Ediacaran animals would evolve. Instead of that, it promptly wiped them out and radiated into its own ecosystem, evolving far faster than the old Ediacaran animals ever had as a result of the new ecological dynamics present. Had this not happened, animal life would have never developed to the extent that it has, and might have been supplanted by something else. -Azdarchid pterosaurs were beginning to compete more seriously with birds towards the end of the Cretaceous and were starting to take back some previously-lost niches from them; given time, they may have relegated them to a far more obscure role in the global ecosystem. -Up until the K-Pg event, most of Australia's small- to medium-sized herbivore niches were occupied by dicynodonts. -All Earth life is descended from microbes hitchhiking aboard a probe launched into interstellar space several billion years ago by an alien civilization a la Voyager. -Complex life had begun to invade the land during the Ordivocian period, but was wiped out during the End-Ordivocian mass extinction. -Tetrapods did not invade land uncontested during the Devonian, and were competed against heavily by a group of similarly-terrestrial antiarch placoderms. The placoderms survived into the mid-Carboniferous, but had been heavily damaged by the End-Devonian mass extinction and were finally outcompeted by early temnospondyls. Humans are actually genetically engineered aliens with their DNA engineered so that it matches earth life. They do not know they are aliens. Hallucigenia was actually the tentacle feelers/weapons of a larger creature resembling a large worm with a body housing the tentacles at the back of its body. |

There was a race of sapient dinosaurs that evolved in the Cretaceous and they developed technology beyond what we have, and they attempted to secure an asteroid in a steady orbit around Earth for the purposes of mining but ended up miscalulating the speed and pathway it was to follow and resulted in the K-Pg extinction event |
