For a long time, I thought my neighborhood was like any other, but now, I take a closer look. I notice things hidden from the naked eye. Hidden villages, giant monsters, races of garden folk, killer stuffed animals, living rocks, and many, many more strange anomalies. Chapter 1: The Discovery It all started a week ago, when I was looking down at my mothers garden. She took care of a particularly large tomato plant, which I never paid much attention to because I think tomatoes are the fruit of the devil. However, I do enjoy plants, so I went to take an up-close look. It seemed normal, but I noticed something off. The branches of the plant were moving. There wasn't even the slightest breeze, and no insects were present inside of the plant. I looked harder, until I could see tiny figures moving about it. They looked like people. Itty Bitty green people with little sprouts on their head. They hopped about the plant like tiny grasshoppers, and built around the stalk of the plant were tiny houses made from leaves. I was in complete shock at the discovery of this tiny civilization. What a find! I attempted to communicate, but they did not seem to even notice me. Except for one. An older looking creature hopped onto an exposed leaf. He tried to speak, but he talked in a different dialect of English that was hard to understand. His high pitched voice didn't help. I tried talking again, but as I opened my mouth he threw something into it. It exploded into a cloud of glitter that got trapped in my throat and nasal passages, sending me into a coughing fit. When my fit passed, I looked up to find the tiny man still their, waiting very patiently. I asked what the hell he did that for, and he replied in a way I could understand. Remarkable! He spoke in a lower pitched voice, and spoke normal English. He said that it was a type of translating glitter made from the ground up carapace of the Buggle Bug. I asked him "What the hell is a Buggle Bug". He ignored the question. He asked me how he noticed their village. "I just looked" I replied. The little man stroked his tiny beard for a moment, and said "That is unusual. You hoo-man don't pay much attention to detail". I was kinda confused. I knew people who payed much more attention than I do. "Most Hoo-Mans lack the ability to see our world". I was yet again puzzled. What world is he talking about? This is just a garden. "What are you talking about good sir? you live in my mom's garden. you'r talking udder nonsense!" I thought about what I just said for a moment and realized that I was telling a tiny green bug man that lived on a tomato plant that he was being absurd. "Even though you can see us, you still do not understand where you are" the little green man said. "Well, where am I then?". "You, my dear boy, are in Quailton". Quailton? what a strange name for a place. "Your people came here some time ago to build houses on our land. You could not notice our presence, and eventually we adapted to your lifestyle and the environment you created for us". Well, this is quite an interesting day I am having so far. "What else lives here, If you don't mind me asking?". I was curious if their were more of his kind around the neighborhood. "So many things that even I can not talk about them all, or even remember most. However, their is book that lies somewhere in the creek beyond. If you find it, it shall have the answers you seek about our world". A book? I wonderd who could have written it. was it a little green man? a human? or something else? I was about to ask this, but the little green man simply told me to be careful, and that we would never meet again. Why would we not meet again? their are so many questions that I would like to have answered, and I doubt Wikipedia has an article about this, so I was forced to search for a book somewhere in a gross, muddy creek. I had noting better to do, and I needed to quench my thirst for knawledge. I set off for the creek, which was only a couple dozen meters away. Then I remembered something. The green man told me to be careful. Of what exactly? I would find out soon enough. I was sure of it. Edited by Finncredibad, Oct 6 2016, 11:32 PM.

Chapter 2: The Book in the Mud I walked for a minute or so before I got to the creek's edge. I stood at the edge of a cliff, and looking down. It was a long fall. Ten or so feet I estimated. What could possibly be down their other than mud pits, sharp jagged rocks, and snapping turtles? A magical book apparently. I could't get down from where I was, but I knew of a safe (ish) path down to the creek floor. I walked along the edge of the creek for a while. I buried one of my ferrets over here. Where her grave is, I have long forgotten. The brush that grew along the edge of the cliff was thick and poorly maintained. It was hard to find any clear path. the only indication was a yellow rope tied to a pole that some of my old friends set up some years ago. I walked down it, slowly. I knew what kind of shit was down here. I assumed poison ivy was one such thing, which is something I would love to avoid. I hiked down to the creek. It had just rained the night before, and the creek was high and rapid. It would be hard to find anything with the water running like this. I briefly thought about giving up and going back, but then I almost immediately forgot because while I was in my deep state of thought, I didn't realize I was standing in a mud pit. I looked at my feet, except I didn't because they were completely submerged in mud. I was sinking, and it felt really, really gross. I tried to get out, but my feet were really stuck. I managed to get one of my feet out, but my shoe was left in the mud. I remembered why I didn't come here often. Because this place sucked. I got my other foot out, which was also shoeless. I spent a minute digging through the mud to find my shoes. I got them out, and they weren't as filthy as I expected. I put my sneakers back on and tried to stay focused on where I was walking. I had to hop on slippery jagged walks, walk along muddy banks, and climb steep cliff sides. How am I even going to find this book? That little green man didn't give any directions, and was pretty cryptic. Maybe he wasn't as wise as I thought. But, for some unknown reason (magic handwavium I presume), I felt something inside my mind. It wasn't a voice, but it was like, an instinct. I felt where I needed to go. I followed the call, and walked along side the creek. I walked down the muddy bank, but as I did, I looked around, and noticed something unsettling. This isn't the creek I was in. It looked different. The sound of cars in the distance ceased, and the calling of birds was a lot more frequent. The river bank turned into a dirt path, and I saw some strange birds sitting on a low branch. The birds looked like they were wearing masks. These birds were humming a song. Not tweeting. Humming. In synchronization. I walked further down the path, but something caught my eye. On the side of the path, there was a stone cube covered in symmetrical lined patterns. written on the side of the cube facing me, were a couple lines of text. It didn't look like text, just a bunch of children scribbles. I felt the call in my head again, and I knew that the cube was somehow connected to the book. I bent down to take a closer look. The scribbles started to move around and take shape. I could read it now. "Beware Human. You may have the key, but the object you seek will leave you open and exposed to the unseen world. Open at your own risk. They may be watching'. How cryptic and unhelpful. Who's is they? And what the hell is this key I supposedly have? A new pattern on the cube appeared. A small square was visible with a strange pattern on it. The pattern looked like a thumb print. That's It! I pressed my thumb on the square, and a crease was now visible on the top facing side of the cube. It was a door. A door that blew up right in my face once I tried to open it. On the bright side, at least I could get to my prize. I took a gander inside. It was a red leather book with gold text saying "The Chaoticon". Cool name, but what does this book even do? I touched it, and my mind flashed. I briefly blacked out, and I opened my eyes. I felt different. The world around me felt different. I felt like I was being watched. I looked up, and there they were. Dolls. Plushy dolls. They looked... adorable. They had cute little button eyes, carefully stitched together limbs, and many had red stains on their bodies, face, and stubby hands. wait what. Are those blood stains!? That is deeply unsettling. They all looked at me with large staring eyes. soulless buttons. I remained still, as did they. I counted at least twenty of 'em. All were wielding some type of painful looking weapon. I took the book in my hands, and they moved. They were on edge now. I was unnerved by this. I took a step back, and they took a step forwards in the trees. I began to run. Without looking back I could hear them. I heard one let out a blood curdling cry. The cry of a small child mixed with stereo sound. I could see shadows, and leaves falling from the tree. One tried to jump down onto me, but missed. I heard a crack and a squish, like there were parts inside of it. Living fleshy parts. I did not dare stop. One threw a spear at me, but it missed and landed far out in front of me. I grabbed it. The spear was made of wood and bone. I could see teeth sticking out of some parts, and the spear head was stained crimson. I didn't care, I just needed something for protection. I ran for a good while, with the creatures close behind. I was tired, but they weren't. Exhaustion began to take hold, and I dropped the book. The book opened as it hit the floor, and the plushies stopped. I cautiously walked over to book and looked at the page. "Death by Death". What the hell does that mean? The words of the book started to liquefy and form a puddle on the page. The ink puddle shot out of the book and branched off. The Ink was seeking the stuffed monsters. It impaled the nineteen that were left, and brought them to the page of origin. The ink and the impaled creatures morphed into a ball of black and red, and condensed into a sphere the size of a pea. It turned into a drop of ink, and fell to the page, re-writing the lost paragraphs, and the text "Death by Death". Well, that was quite terrifying. I looked around a bit more, just to make sure the creatures were all gone. I crouched next to the book and flipped through the pages. The book was filled with amazing things. Texts of monster information and spells filled The Chaoticon. I flipped through more, but I stopped after I saw a page that looked particularly interesting. It contained some more scribbled gibberish, except for the words "Home Spawn". What did this mean? Well, I wasn't completely sure. But I had an Idea. I touched the text, seeing if that would do anything, and surprisingly, I was met with a bright light, and then eternal blackness. That is until I woke up in my bed, with the Book held in my arms. Spooky. This book must be studied more, if I am to understand the hidden world under my line of knowing. Edited by Finncredibad, Oct 7 2016, 11:51 AM.

Chapter 3: The Theif Ever since I found that book I've been in tune with the unseen world. This book has allowed me to become aware of the creatures that co-exist with the humans in this neighborhood, and the things that they do. It has been a week since I've found the Chaoticon, and I have noticed some strange occurrences that have been happening in my house specifically. Lately, clothing has been going missing in my house. For example, my little sister set down her swimming suit on the chair, and walked off to get something before she went to the pool. When she came back, the swimsuit was gone. No one touched it,and no one was even around in the span of time when my sister briefly left, and came back. Things like this happen often, and their is almost always no culprit. These occurrences seem almost paranormal, but since I have found the book, I have found some logic in these strange happenings. In order to find the true culprit behind these clothing disappearances, I set down a pair of basketball shorts on the table. Usually my parents would tell me to quote "Pick this shit up", but luckily for me, my dad took my siblings to Wichita to watch a basketball game, and my mom was working in the hospital in the next town over, which left me by myself in my house. I hid under a pile of blankets in wait for something to take the shorts off of the table. after a few minutes, I heard some movement. I jumped out of the blanket pile to catch the culprit, but alas, It was just my dog playing with one of my ferrets. I shewed them upstairs and crawled back in my hiding place. I moved the blankets to a little niche spot in between the couch and the wall, so I could be better hidden. I stayed in my spot for a good ten minutes before I could hear something. I could tell It wasn't any of my pets, for these steps sounded too big. I peeked out and saw it. It had to be at least two meters tall at the shoulder, and was humanoid in body plan. It had wrinkly green skin with a slimy look to it, long black hair, long perky rabbit-like ears, very long arms, equally long legs, a wrinkly dog-like muzzle, and a single reptilian eye. I thought it would be smaller. This thing was massive! It sniffed the bait, and quickly snatched it up with it's talons. I jumped right out my hiding spot and surprised it. The creature was startled and lashed out at me, flinging me across the room and hitting the wall. It ran to the other end of the room and squeezed into a vent. The vent was very small compared to the creatures body size. I don't think I can even fit. The creature's body quickly disappeared into the vent, along with my shorts. I ran upstairs to grab my book. I flipped through the pages until I found the page that I was searching for. "The Grabbit" "Long ago, The Grabbit was a fearsome ambush predator that used the skin of it's prey to build it's nest, but with the construction of this neighborhood, It has gotten lazy and now relies on clothing it steals from peoples homes to build it's nests with. The Grabbit can fit in the smallest of spaces in order to get to it's nest, which is usually filled with eggs or hatchlings. Grabbits are very skittish, and will lash out at anything that corners it. If you have had clothes stolen by a Grabbit, it will continue to steal from you until you destroy it's nest, or the preferred solution, terminating it". A strange creature indeed, but as much of a nuisance as it was, I don't wan't to kill it. It's just an animal trying to live it's life an raise it's family. "Oh wait, I missed a line". "The Grabbit's diet now consists of family pets, especially small creatures such as hamsters, mice, rats, bunnies, parakeets, parrots, various fish, and... FERRETS!?" This thing is going to eat my ferrets! Well that kinda conveniently shifts my moral compass a little bit now does it. Now I have no other choice but to kill the Grabbit. I put the book in my backpack, and went downstairs to grab some kitchen knives and a lighter. The only problem that I faced was how I could possibly fit in this vent? The vent was still open, and I looked inside. It actually got a bit larger once inside. I climbed in and started crawling. This further I went down it, the more wild it looked. the walls turned into stone, vines grew on the walls, and slime coated the floor, and weird looking bugs scuttled under it all. Maybe the Grabbit has been living off bugs. By the look of this thick coating of slime, presumably from the Grabbit, I think I can say that this creature had been here for some time. I can't take a chance though. I crawled for what seemed like forever, until I saw a light up ahead. I silently made my way over to the end of the tunnel, but I heard noises up ahead. I moved closer, until, I came to a bit of a clearing. It was a pretty large area, and when I looked up, I could see a sky. In the center of the clearing was a pile of clothes, and on top of the pile, was the Grabbit. I quietly jumped down from the hole in the wall, and into a patch of tall grass. The creature seemed fast asleep, absorbing the sunlight. I stalked the creature, moving closer and closer. I reached the pile of clothes. Some of these Clothes weren't even my families. I took a peak inside the Pile, and saw a clutch of three or four cubic eggs. This thing was a mother. I felt bad for what I'd have to do, but If I didn't do it, Their would be more mouths for mamma to feed. I peeked out of the grass, and saw that the Grabbit was moving. It lazily stood up on four legs. It looked sluggish, like how a lizard looks in the morning. I adjusted my body a little bit, but I accidentally stepped on a twig. The creatures long ears perked up, and It stood menacingly on two legs. It sniffed the air, and looked down at my location. It's body was tense, like it was about to pounce. I jumped away just as the creature tried to jump me. Unfortunately I didn't land as gracefully as I wanted to. I tumbled to the ground while the creature was slashing at the spot I was previously in. I pulled out one of my knives, and the Grabbit soon realized that It was slashing at nothing. It sniffed the air again, and turned it's head towards me, staring with it's single eye. It was unnerving how it looked at me with such primordial ferocity. It's body tensed up again, and it jumped at me once more. I ducked under the creature and put the sharp knife above my head. As the monster moved above me, I slashed it's body open. The creature fell limp to the ground. I looked at my knife, and saw it was covered in crimson red blood. I walked over to the clothes pile and removed the eggs from the nest. I through the eggs across the chamber, and they all shattered. Fortunately, the embryos inside were at the earliest stages in development, so I felt slightly less terrible about the thing that I did. However, I still felt terrible. I looked through the pile to find my families lost clothing. I gathered up the items and but them in my bag. I took the lighter from my pocket and set fire to the remaining clothes. There was no way I was gonna find the owners of the remaining clothes, so why not just burn them. I looked over at the Grabbit's body, and saw that it was evaporating into brightly colored green smoke. The eggs were evaporating as well. I crawled back into the tunnel, feeling quite guilty for what I have done. My guilty thought were interrupted by a loud trembling. Some stones fell from the low hanging ceiling of the tunnel. This place was collapsing. I crawled as fast as I possibly could through the tunnel. The tunnel was starting to fill with dust and debris, and some of it got in my lungs, making it hard to breathe. It took only s few minutes before the tunnel turned back into the vent that I crawled through before. I reached the exit, but it was blocked by the vent covering. I got on my back and kicked the vent open. I jumped out and fell to the floor in a coughing fit. I caught my breath and looked up. I strangely wasn't in my house. I interrupted a family while they were saying grace over the dinner table. "Uh, don't go in that vent up their". End of Chapter Three |

I'm happy to hear that! We need more modern accounts of hidden beasts and creatures, I particularly like how you've gone over the "evolution" of these fantastic creatures and how they've adapted to suburbs and humanity. |
