| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Yes....yes he is still around.... ...the presence has been drastically reduced, albeit, but he is around. And now I'll stop referring to myself in third-person. Oh, a possible idea! Perhaps dispersal? ya know how spiderlings ballon to new places? What if an insect manaed to modify its wings so that, when it's still but a little worm-baby, it can function like a parachute or a sail to carry off the little babiez off into the magical beyond........ *dreamy sigh* .... |

A very high perectnage would land in a hostile environment (i.e., the sea) or be snapped up by predators. It seems it would be a little inefficient unless thousnads of larvae were created, which uses up a lot of biomass. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

I dunno, really. '^^ Well, I'll go ahead and post up a new image for you all. ^^ ![]() This is a beetle-thing! I was thinking about crabs, and land crustaceans, and I remembered the coconut crab that eats coconuts. So I basically made a more advanced version of it. It can roll into a ball, and it lives on its own little island, so it grows about as big as a(n) (insert your favorite breed of dog here). ^-^ I even made up the name! Arthrolaspis arrensis. Aren't I all smarticle? XP |
