Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

BREAKING NEWS
We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this cutting edge report.
ATTENDANCE DROPS DRASTICALLY ON SE SERVER
This past Monday on Discord, famous server Speculative Evolution took a hit in the attendance office when it's offline member list suddenly reappeared. Mods scrambled to rectify the situation, but unfortunately there was little anyone could do. Server member Ivan was asked what he thought of the situation. "So long as Flisch, lord of machines and scion of Urborg lives, all will be well". SE, (in)famous for it's eccentric userbase, has recently been spiraling downward, and now we have hard conformation of the decline. Moderator "High Lord" Icthyander states "There is nothing to be concerned about, Discord is merely changing its UI again", but members are beginning to suspect the honesty of their staff.
Stay tuned, we'll be back with more at 11.

@trex: aw shucks!

i'm a big fan of Beetleboy's Rainforest Earth, TerrificTyler's Post Earth, and Dapper Man's Psuedo-Cenozoic. It's hard to do future evo or lesser K-Pg projects well, and these three are very good at putting original twists on relatively common premises.

EDIT: Also I LOVE Picrodus' Umbriel- its a super original premise and I love his planimals!

I do art sometimes.

"if you want green eat a salad"

Projects:
Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs.

Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes.

❤️❤️~I'm not a boy~❤️❤️

The project "The Tower Forests" in the future evolution section is very intriguing. Although some of the plausibility could be called in the question, it shows a wholly unique and original far future ecosystem, featuring an art style that works beautifully, showing us an ecosystem like nothing we've ever seen. Everything there is filled with creativity.

Enjoying our azure blue world

I'm reviving this thread from the dead, to point out some promising projects that either came out recently, or I had overlooked previously. All of them deserve more attention and feedback!
~
Land Down Under by Chuditch - The Land Down Under is a future evo. project focused around the island continent of Australia, and the surrounding islands. Set 10 million years in the future, it is one of the most meticulously researched pieces of spec I have ever seen. It's still in its infancy, but what has been posted is fantastic, and this is definitely one to keep an eye on!

Future Planet by CaledonianWarrior96 - Future Planet is a highly ambitious project that seems to have gone completely under the radar. Covering multiple time periods, it details the worlds fauna and climate, and how both change and adapt as the project heads further and further into the future. A sizable amount has already been written, and it definitely deserves more love!

The Lance That Pierced The Stars by Uncanny Gemstar - A terraforming experiment conducted by human scientists goes horribly wrong, as a solar flare from the local star kills them all. Against all odds, some microorganisms manage to survive the resulting cataclysm, along with a single type of animal; the lancelet. This project explores the evolutionary radiation of these basal chordates in a world devoid of competition. Also covers multiple time periods, and takes a page from Sheather's playbook in detailing the progression of life and death over time. Definitely worth a read!

Nemo Ramjet's Snaiadi project?
That's super well known
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

Quotes
