Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

The Future is Brutal

As life has existed for 3.8 billion years, survival has always been top priority. A species' survival was put to the ultimate test as mass extinctions occurred. The ones that adapted to the change survived and the ones that couldn't manage simply perished. Despite series of volcanic eruptions, meteor impacts, etc., life has always bounced back, formed by the surviving species of a mass extinction. Evolution has created wonders, such as ourselves, but evolution has also selected those who are the most adaptable when it comes to mass extinctions. For 65 million years, there hasn't been a mass extinction, until now. A mere evolutionary experiment, mankind has managed to change and affect the earth in significant ways. Scientists foretold that a next mass extinction would occur, and it did, thanks to man. Few animals survived. Besides the first bacteria to breath oxygen into the atmosphere, no other form of life has caused change like mankind has. Now with man gone and niches to be filled, life bounces back.

Might I ask, how many projects are you going to make? Have you lost interest in the other ones or what?

Also, this sounds a little bit like the other Future Evo projects around here. I'm no expert at Fut. Evo, but try to make your designs original.

Rather generic. No indication of where this thing is going.

The End

The year was 2025. The sixth mass extinction was beginning. Since this was caused by man, it occurred 1000x faster than usual. There were campaigns, organizations, and websites dedicated to saving animals from extinction. Those weren't enough. Before 2025, we had already let go of the giant panda (due to cost and the panda's specialized and lazy habits) but we had also lost the animals that we thought were worth saving such as rhinos (all species), the elephant, the tiger, the western lowland gorilla, and hundreds of other species.

50 years later, the 6th mass extinction was in full effect, wiping out hundreds of vulnerable species such as the lion, cheetah, clouded leopard, polar bear, some species of bee, and many more. It was happening right before our eyes. We were in a mass extinction, wondering if we were next. Our population was decreasing (especially in third world countries) due to loss of biodiversity.

In the year 2085, we would live out last days on the planet. Poverty and hunger became a huge issue. Nuclear war over resources broke out. Nuclear bombs destroyed towns and habitats, killing most of the animals. With little resources, humans were forced to scrounge up whatever they could find but that wouldn't have come without a fight. Our population was reduced to 3,567 people. When resources were finally out of their reach, mankind met its end. We were successful for so long but died so quickly. The animals that did survive scavenged off of our dead bodies. The 6th mass extinction was over.
