Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

PBS has a new show: Jet Propulsion, in which the title character is an alien, the son of two aliens (travel writers) with a pet named Sunspot. The series focuses on the solar system of Earth, and what can be found in our solar system (Mars' two moons, what Saturns rings are composed of, etc)

But every so often, they say what one aspect or another of Bortron 7 - Jet's home planet - is like. Here's what I can recall:

* Bortron 7 is smaller than the Earth, and has weaker gravity.

* Jet has never seen anything as tall as a pine tree on his world.

* nor has Jet ever seen birds (animals?) that were red, blue, or "banana-colored."

* when a Bortron 7ian plant was grown outdoors on Earth, under Earth's yellow sun, it grew to at least five times its normal size. (their AI said it was because our sun puts out stronger light I think, so photosynthesis there may not rely on infrared light?)

* Bortron 7 is one of (I think) ten planets orbiting the Red Dwarf star Bortron. (Jeff's parents call our sun a Yellow Dwarf)

* Bortron 7 does not appear to be engaged in tidal locking nor be close enough to Bortron to even try (they show the planets rotating and revolving in both solar systems when the two systems are displayed)

...so the atmosphere would need to be thicker to keep the planet warm enough to be habitable, yes?

I've undoubtedly missed several somethings.

Dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the Earth.

It's actually a kids show on PBS called, "Ready Jet Go!"

Possibly a piece of evidence from today's episode to support this: if someone mentions there is a storm -

WARN EVERYONE! BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES! PREPARE FOR THE STORM!

- Bortron 7ians won't wait til the end of the statement to hear where the storm is.

(so clearly, storms are pretty much always dangerous there - does thicker atmosphere means stronger winds?)

Weaker gravity and possibly thicker atmosphere but nothing as tall as a pine tree? That seems... Unlikely. Maybe the planet has a higher oxygen content as well? In such a case lighting would cause periodic explosions, and the wildfires from that could limit the height of plant life.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

two new pieces of information...though the first could be a sign of disconnect between a people and the natural world, rather than a clue to their planet:

Jet's uncle comes to visit, and he is astounded that ice and steam are water.

the second piece of info is much better: Bortron 7 has at least two moons. (Jet's parents spoke of their first date being on one of Bortron 7's moons, with its weak gravity, looking down on their homeworld)
