Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Man no more

Evolution has created many wonders in the past 3.5 billion years. As life began in the sea and ventured onto land, many animals have come and gone. We humans consider ourselves the wonder of the world and the dominant species. In evolutionary perspective, we are the new kid on the block, but what is new can end just as quickly as it came. As we destroy critical habitats and species, we are bringing ourselves closer to our demise. We did it. We brought doom upon ourselves. We wiped out a large amount of flora and fauna and ultimately wiped out ourselves. With us out of the way and other animals extinct, the least concerned but adaptable species seized their opportunity to occupy niches. Life will continue, we just won't be here to see it.
