Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I wanted to hear some of you to see how you might interpret pokemons in a more scientific way than the pokedex.

There are some Pokemon out there who have their pokedex entry saying something either improbable or insane. And I have a number of questions about them such as:

-How does Latios and Latias float?

-How could Rotom's body be made entirly of Plasma?

-Can Machamp's punch create an explosion as strong or stronger than Little Boy and Fat Man?

-How could Diancie create diamonds in mid air?

-What does the fox say (ok, that was a super lame and very old joke/song/what is this lol)?

-What happens if Magcargo is right next to you?

And so on. You can all tell your thought about it and see if science works the same way in Pokemon or how Physics are litteraly broken by Pokemon.

So here I'm gonna talk about Magcargo:

This "molten" snail like pokemon is a Rock and Fire type. Its abilities are Flame Body and Magma Armor and is weak to Fighting, Water, Ground and Rock. And its pokedex entry from Pokemon Alpha Sapphire states that:

Quote:

Magcargo's body temperature is approximately 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Water is vaporized on contact. If this Pokémon is caught in the rain, the raindrops instantly turn into steam, cloaking the area in a thick fog.

Because I hate fahrenheit, i'll convert it to Celsius. In Celsius, its approximatively 9982 C or approximatively 10255 K. Ahem. That is extremely hot. In fact, its even hotter than the surface of the sun. Its internal body temperature would be the equivalent of a A type star's surface temperature.

So... what happens if out of no where... A WILD MAGCARGO APPEARS!

Magcargo is 80 cm high. I'll estimate that Magcargo's width is of 40 cm. And that it is also 80 cm long. And it weights 55 kg according to Bulbapedia. Just imagine, 10000 K inside a thing that small.

There's an article on the internet (a pdf) that talks about this. It's very detailed and a little complicated, so here, I'll just resume this paper. The paper is known as Journal of Interdisciplinary Science Topics A Wild Magcargo.

Again the pokedex says:
Quote:

Water is vaporized on contact.

Vaporized? Or do you mean atomized and broken down to just a mere atom... without electrons and with the nucleus' protons and neutrons separated. No. Water won't turn into steam upon contact and create a fog. It would just "disappear" and maybe reassemble itself at higher altitude (and rain...).

However the Earth is not doomed. According to the paper, everything in a 10m radius (which is a little large honestly) is toasted. Further away you might feel that you're in the Mojave desert.

So next time you see a Magcargo from far away, be aware and don't get too close.
“There's a tree," Starflight said, jumping to his feet. "In the forest."
"No way," Glory said. "A tree in the forest?”

"So if you wake up in the morning and it's a particularly beautiful day you'll know we made it."
-Capa

"One of those capsules hit a wing." Victor said. "Had to do an emergency landing." He pointed to a crumpled plane a couple dozen meters behind him and shrugged. "Not my most elegant landing."
-me in Flisch's story "Spec Evo: Void Entry" (Act 3)

"but by rule 34 of the multiverse, if it exists, there’s a world full of it." -Tet

"I must ask you to leave now." -Everyone (not realy though) in Flisch's story "Spec Evo: Void Entry"

Dude, we have a thread for this kind of thing already. If you want to make a thread dedicated to interpreting Pokemon realistically, do it in General Spec.
