| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Humanity advanced greatly since 21st century. It had created great cities,it made Mars habitable,it created both new life, and complicated machines. Then, the Last War came. One side created Iron Snakes to win the Last War. Iron Snakes were snake-shaped machines created to end the Last War.They were led by A.I. named G.I.S.L.A.I.,who listened to human leaders. Snake Creators won war.Iron Snakes, alongside other weapons, were locked underground. On surface humans prospered, nature was restored and there were no wars. Underground,A.I. created machine people,Iron Snakes served as equivalent to police. A.I. created many machines and upgraded Iron Snakes using new technologies,so they could better serve their roles, but it itself became more and more damaged.A.I. tried to repair itself but it didn't succeeded. In 3212 the Event happened.Event consisted of solar radiation destroying many human technologies, including A.I..Iron Snakes were not destroyed, but without leadership, they begun attacking people they had to protect. Some of Iron Snakes got to surface, and begun attacking humans.Humans were not prepared for conflict, and were mostly killed.Remaining humans fled to Mars.Iron snakes had no targets, and so begun to attack, and finally destroy themself. Humans from Mars decided that they will not return to Earth. Now we will see what will evolve in abandoned cities. Content List Spoiler: click to toggle

Iron Snakes Original Iron Snakes Original Iron Snakes(O.I.S) have segmented bodies,"head" contains light receptors, and tail contains sharp blade. On their bodies are many small legs. They have limited intelligence, but they need commands from lesser I.S.L.A.I.(Iron Snakes Leading Artificial Inteligence) to act, which receives orders from greater I.S.L.A.I. who listens to human leaders. They can move by walking or by levitating. They are slow when walking, but fast when levitating.Their methods of attack are:slashing, stabbing, cutting, and constricting. Their purpose is being war machines. Upgraded Iron Snakes Upgraded Iron Snakes(U.I.S.) are similar to O.I.S. but are faster, have better armoring, higher intelligence and limited ability to mind control machine people. They still can't act on their own,and must listen to lesser I.S.L.A.I..This time humans aren't involved. They also act differently, because they are now law enforcers for Machine People, not war machines. Cities of 33rd Century In 33rd century many parts of planet are wild again.Part of humanity's population live on other planets.Other part live in Earth's cities. Big cities of 33rd century are often composed from these components: -Wall prevents dangerous animals from getting into city.It has gates which permits people and small animals to get in and out city.In case of attack, these can be locked. -Pyramids are multifunctional. In each pyramid there are apartments, shops, schools, farms, and other things. -Towers,in contrast to pyramids, are often solely habitational. -Farms are used for making food, obliviously. -Factories -Electricity Plants use mostly light to generate electricity. -Water Cleaning Plants clean water. -Streets -Parks -Schools There are of course other buildings like, for example, administrative buildings, police stations, entertainment buildings, and others. |

This is a really cool idea! One thing, though. These cities would probably crumble away and decay before much of interest could evolve there. However, there could be some ways around this - perhaps it could be made of some structure which can last a long time against erosian?
I like the idea of the pyramids.

Thanks you for reminding me that.Which material you recommend? Also it is erosion, not erosian. |

Not sure, I don't really know much about that sort of thing. You might have to do some research or ask around. |

I'm not sure buildings of any one material can last for more than a million years without crumbling. The pyramids in Giza are probably the best case scenario (material, environment, architecture and shape). |

Only idea I have now is that buildings would have skeletons made from man-made variant of carbon. Carbon has many variants, very soft(for rock)graphite and very hard diamond. If anyone known if it would be possible and practical, please tell me. Idea is that rest of building would crumble, but skeleton would remain, and rats would repair building by building their nests on skeletons. They would start building their nests in buildings shortly after extinction of humans on Earth. I will be doing research tomorrow. Now I will be going to bed soon. Edited by ThinkingRat7, Feb 20 2016, 02:39 PM.

This is indeed correct. According to Population Zero, nearly all man-made structures (except maybe pyramids and the like) would be destroyed within 300 years, due to a lack of human maintenance. How did the underground A.I society work? What has happened to all of the power plants and factories that would have been used to make these machines? |

I don't really know the details, but wouldn't erosion by wind and sand turn the pyramids into unrecognizable shapes in at least a few hundred thousand years? |

On surface after end of Last War factories used to manufacture were repurposed. Underground after Iron Snakes rebelled, they were destroyed so much that they were non-functional. Society of Machine People Machine People were led by non-elected greater I.S.L.A.I..Under it were democratically elected leaders.Only intelligent machines could vote. They mined resources from under them. For electricity was used geothermal energy.Air was cleaned,so they could use fire. They also grown plants because same reason and for animals.Dead machines and irreparable,or not needed broken technology was recycled.Laws were enforced by Iron Snakes. Machine People had similar minds to humans, because when creating them,A.I. was inspired by humans.Machine Peoples were created after Last War,but many of their technology predates them. They had art, mostly in form of decoration on functional items.Machine peoples were similar to humans in shape. They had one "eye" on their "heads".They were powered using electricity that they got from food,or power stations.Mouth was located on "head". They seen using their "eye".They spoke not using their mouths, but device on their back. They spoke and wrote human languages. They had to been cleaned if they ate food. They had two arms, and two legs. They obliviously didn't had reproductive organs, because they were machines, and they were made in factories. If parts that contained software has not been damaged, but other parts been damaged irreparably, software containing parts were simply put into another body. They didn't wore clothing except these showing status like hats or functional(they in most cases don't needed functional clothing, because they were highly durable). Over time greater I.S.L.A.I. was becoming more, and more destroyed. It tried to repair itself, but it didn't succeeded. After its destruction in year 3212 Iron Snakes became mindless machines, and without leadership, they begun killing Machine People. In end,Machine People were destroyed by their own former peacekeepers. |

My idea is that cities will be unknowingly repaired by rats,by building their nests in buildings. |

The problem with that is that it wouldn't provide support- rat nests aren't known for their structural properties. I'd say it'd be better to use a handwave for the sake of having destroyed cities lying around- such as some AI still being around to repair them, or that nobody knows how these structures are surviving. |

I have idea. Building Technology of 33rd century In 33rd century building is mostly done using machines. Building Technique: First, architects will make plans. Then, workers will create parts for building. After that, plans will be programmed into Building Machines.Building Machines will receive parts, and will begin building by plans. Maintaining Buildings Off course, buildings must be maintained. For it are too mostly used machines. There are Maintaining Machines for each building. To function they must be programmed with plans of their building, after they are programmed they maintain these plans.Obliviously, they maintain only structural parts of building, for example walls, roofs, floors and stairs, not furniture or decorations. If there are changes in structure of building, they must be reprogrammed. They aren't used in all buildings. After 3212 With no humans left on Earth to program them, and being mostly destroyed,Building Machines stopped building. In contrast to Building Machines Maintaining Machines never stopped repairing buildings destroyed by Iron Snakes. They survived many millions years, repairing buildings long after surviving humans left earth.
