Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

My desire to make the geography, geology and evolution of Great Lakes Earth is just like Wayne Barlowe's in creating his own planet, Darwin IV:

"It seemed utterly important to me that the foundation to create a world was to make sure that that the world was acceptable to the science community."

Can you list me any astronomers, geologists, paleontologists, biologists and geographers? And how can I contact them?

Well, to be totally frank, it doesn't look like Barlowe consulted with anyone when designing Darwin IV, since the biology and geology don't make a whole lot of sense.

Well of course the geology of Darwin VI doesn't make sense, it's an alien planet.

If you're looking for paleontologists, Dave Peters is a good source.

Try contacting professors at a nearby university. If you email the person with a request related to their field, they'll likely respond with helpful information of some sort.

I've been able to ask professors simple questions free of charge before going to university before. Usually, you shouldn't have to pay them anything for emailing them a question.

If he is going to e-mail them one question he might just as well google it himself.

Not necessarily. It might be simple case of "whose work should I read to get the best grounding in X?" Besides, most academics I know are not about selling anything. They're not going to make enough money out of sales of anything to fund their research - those grants have to come from elsewhere, hence the horrendous paper-publishing/teaching trap that stretches many of them so hard. If you want to hire one to be an advisor, that might cost, but I've exchanged in depth emails on various topics before with academics in all kinds of fields without much problem. Sometimes they get distracted, especially those with teaching roles, and just forget to respond altogether. Some of them are grumpy buggers and would rather just be left alone. But most are just normal people with a job that allows requires them to be nerdy all the time. I'd highly recommend just sending some emails out with some questions and seeing what responses you get. I'd also recommend checking out the guys over at The Cartographer's Guild. They're primarily about map-making, but are a very knowledgeable bunch when it comes to making maps of places that look like they could actually exist. Thus, there are some good folks there on geology, hydrology, climateology, and the like, and there's probably someone who has links to a university department somewhere.

It might be good to come up with a set of specific questions you want answered- it's quite possible that a lot of the questions you're wondering about are the kind which can't be answered per se but you just have to develop a sense of what feels consistent.
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

If you have one or two questions about specific things that you can't find the answer to yourself, then as Dragon suggested try a university. If you find the staff page(s), you should be able to see what specific areas they are interested in and what they've previously worked and published on along with their contact details. If your idea is interesting enough you should get a few responses, someone may enter into a discussion with you.

If you want a consultant to ask 39449302 questions to and do a lot of work for you or answer quickly (or at all), then you are probably going to need to fork over some cash.
