Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Has anyone here heard of these?
http://wierdnwildcreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Weird_n%27_Wild_Creatures_Wiki

It was a series of trading cards that existed from 2003 to 2010, and covered some surprisingly obscure animals and mythical creatures (though not always with total accuracy--they had featherless dromaeosaurs, for example).
I only learned about it last year, though, and I've spent a lot of time on their wiki reading up on the cards and what they say.

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

Those things were awesome! I still have some lying around here somewhere.

Find the naked mole rat one. Looks more like a killer, mutant rodent thing covered in infestations of warts.

The art on them is the biggest downside. A lot of the time it seems like they're going out of their way to make an animal scary.
Most of the prehistoric animals are taken from existing art by Luis V. Rey, so they look pretty good, but the dromaeosaurs are featherless. Which is odd, because Rey is famous for being one of the first people to draw feathered dinosaurs.

Strange. I must've been living under a rock. Where can I get my hands on some?

These days you find them in thrift/pawn shops and other places where you get old stuff or ebay.

I remember seeing adds for these as a kid that caught my interest. Never had any, though.

Some of the art is funny to look at though. Are the facts actually decently accurate?
totally not British, b-baka!

I don't even really like this song that much but the title is pretty relatable sometimes, I guess.

Sort of... Depends on which card you're talking about.

For the most part. Some of them are either outdated or just plain wrong, though.
For instance. . .
http://wierdnwildcreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Tarbosaurus : says Tarbosaurus was larger than Tyrannosaurus. It wasn't.
http://wierdnwildcreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Mania_30: states that Archaeopteryx is related to pterosaurs (and that pterosaurs are dinosaurs), and that dolphins are related to ichthyosaurs.
http://wierdnwildcreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Gigantophis: Calls Gigantophis the world's largest snake. It has since been displaced by Titanoboa, which does not have a card.
http://wierdnwildcreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Quetzalcoatlus: Calls Quetzalcoatlus a fish-eater/scavenger, not a terrestrial stalker.
Not to mention the inexplicably featherless dromaeosaurs in a series with otherwise decent paleo-art.

On the whole, accuracy-wise, I give the series a solid B. It's definitely trying harder than most.

Maybe they were confusing it with the Mapinguari?

What we really need is for them to reboot this series--preferably with artwork by the likes of John Conway, Darren Naish, and Nemo Ramjet (OK, maybe not Nemo Ramjet; these were for kids, after all).
