Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A lot of spec-evoers¹ over here create pretty awesome creatures and concepts, but not all spec-evoers are good artists. I myself am somewhat mediocre. In this board in particular many good projects don't have any graphics, or just some made in paint. They're not to blame, creating art takes good amount of talent most people don't have. But what I've found, and dare to say, is that 3D graphics are easier to make than 2D.
¹What is the catch-all term, really?

It takes less effort than you'd think. I've been into 3d graphics for less than 2 months and already made things such as this. The set of skills needed to make such critter takes in all likelihood no more than three weeks. And the process of modelling is pretty straightforward.

The program is called blender and there are tons of tutorials, especially on youtube.

Another programme I would suggest is Sculptris. It's a free programme that works on Mac and Windows that is good for creating both simple and complex models of creatures. It doesn't have the animating capabilities provided by Blender, but in my experience it's a lot better for making models. It is also possible to take models made in Sculptris, export them to Blender, then rig them up to use in animations.

If there's any project that deserves models of its creatures, it's the Hollow Earth.

Couldn't you use that new 3D-ifier on Windows 10 which converts 2d into 3D? If so, that could help, and if not, at least it gives some guideline. The ideal would be one that can turn 2d drawings into modifiable 3D models and work from there :)

It's too simple, at least for now. (At least what I heard about it.)
