Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I'd say that the discussion on circumcisions and people's personal experience with their own foreskin or lack thereof spanning several pages in this very topic counts towards this.

The idea that there might be fungi growing on Mr. Winky seriously freaked me out.

Especially this part.

There's plenty of strange stuff on this forum. I'm sure some people have had their weirdest online encounters here.

I've had a number of strange online encounters, some two-way (i.e. I interacted with the person) and some one-way (I only looked at the website). Here are some of them:

A deviantArt artist who is either a ridiculously hardcore Christian fundamentalist, or a clever parody of one. His "work"--most of it is just lazy screenshot kit-bashings-- consists of him ranting about how video games and cartoons cause violence, the Bible is such a great book it can literally save you from physical assault, 1950s Disney Princesses are good female role models, and Bart Simpson is somehow the most evil character ever. Not linking to him, because that would just encourage him.

Another deviantArt artist who draws nothing but very detailed pictures of people getting eaten by various animals. And not even swallowed whole, which I at least understand is a fetish some people (though certainly not me) have--just eaten, realistically. Once again, no links.

One guy who seems to be a friend of our former forum member SSJRaptog, and who is perhaps the textbook example of how NOT to create a speculative biology project. His project consists of a vaguely defined fictional landmass/world/dimension that is home to mythical creatures, creatures from pop culture, and whatever he sets his mind to, and gives some of them very vague evolutionary backgrounds.

My Projects:
The Neozoic Redux
Valhalla--Take Three!
The Big One

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

To be fair, this might be true if you have a large enough edition on hand and you throw it hard enough.

No! This is WTFIWWY Rule #567: Bibles are not melee weapons!

Speaking of, WTFIWWY might count as a weird encounter itself.

I find a hardcover edition of A Dance with Dragons (or any other hard cover Asoiaf book) to be a much better self defense weapon. The ultimate self defense books, however, are large, hardcover university textbooks needed for multiple terms.

That being eaten by animals guy is probably also a kink-related thing, most likely. From what I understand, the "being viciously devoured" thing is a sort of vore "sub-culture". There's also those people who, for some reason, find gorey drawings sexually appealing.
You know, the internet is a very educational place. Thanks to it, I know way more about kinks/fetishes that I don't have than I'd like to.

I think I've heard that particularly large softcover books, when tightly bond, have a good spine to strike with.

The ultimate self-defense book is one that has been hollowed out and contains a knife.

I believe it's called "Gorn". I have, unfortunately, come across some examples of such art during my treks through the depths of the internet. It's like walking face first into a bramble patch.

That's actually a pretty major fetish among minor fetishes. There are even people who specialize in drawing that sort of porn manga, and there are several Japanese porn games/animations on that subject.

And I've accidently been introduced to worse fetishes, speaking of internet strangeness. Scatology, Body Modification porn, Emetophilic porn.... etc Some people actually find such stuff stimulating.
