Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A long time ago I remember reading about some cockroaches being trained to recognise words and associate them with food, but I've forgotten where and not found anything about that since. They're very easy to train with scents and paths, but is it possible for them to learn sounds like that?
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

I dunno, but they are pretty smart, suffering from depression-like symptoms when isolated, and having their own personalities. And i thought if they have their own personalities, and can learn, then perhaps they can even learn the personalities of their associates! And i did also read somewhere about roaches having regular foraging buddies, so that says a lot about their intelligence. I think insects are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

I like cockroaches.

I currently own:

Elliptorhina javanica

Polyphaga aegyptica

Therea olegrandjeani

Therea petiveriana.

Nice, you have me jealous with such a fine collection! I have kept T. bernhardti before, a lovely species.
By the way, kind of off topic, but are you still continuing with your 10 Million Years of Rain project? It is one of my favourite projects here.

OK, so this is kinda gross, but one of my hissers died and i dissected it. XD As it turns out, it is very hard to see anything significant because of the MASSIVE amounts of fat obscuring everything. But i did extract the entire digestive tract, esophagus, crop, ventriculus, colon, and rectum.

No, i actually think he died because of the water crystals he ate in such huge amounts. His crop was packed with them.
