Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Lately, I've been feeling a bit more confident in my writing ability, so I'd like to communicate some of my projects that I may start up soon, most of these already have an intro post written up, but not much else, though there are a lot of concepts swimming around in my brain-pan. Depending on if any of these get some notable interest, I may actually post them, and expand upon them. You will notice that most of these have a theme, and they would, in theory, all take place in the same, shared universe.

The Lake: for us in the modern day, we have little to no hope of ever discovering every creature, every quirk, behavior, and affect even the most common of animals may have, the will always be a stone left alone, a log unrolled, a tree nook undiscovered. The futility to discover so much is what has led to the meek, humble attitude towards discovery, and when exploring new frontiers, it seems best to limit ourselves, narrowing down in a way that benefits us most. And here, in what was once South East Maine, we have stumbled upon an unassuming lake, but to us, this place is a veritable hotspot for diversity and discovery, and we are bent on exploring the whole of this area, leaving nothing unexplored, every animal discovered and documented, and every plant collected and tested. Here, at Lake Scottley, we are coming up with the most complete information on any one area on Earth, ten million years hence.

Anthropology Anthology: mankind is resilient, mankind is adaptable, mankind is numerous, and mankind is ancient, all qualities exercised in all of us today, and features which will stay prevalent in the far future, even when we've strayed as far as we can from what was once known as 'man'. In this anthology, we shall look over the stories, histories, and lives of many different species, and civilizations of mankind throughout the ages, from the long, near endless story of the Pelagon, to the exciting lives of The Martians, and finally, the highly successful, galactic existence of the Pertentias. Though we are severely separated by both distance and time, we all share many features which make us people.

Aftermath: Earth has faced cataclysmic extinction events before, so devastating as to have completely rocked the Earth away from the course what was once intended, from the disasters wrought upon life by life itself, to the major events which came from Earth itself, and even to genocidal events coming from the infinite void of space itself, though some of the most interesting changes not just to Earth, but the galaxy as a whole, stem from the force of nature that is humankind. They changed the Earth to suit their needs, changing the animals and plants to make them better and useful, spreading everything they need or want across the globe, or even bringing life which has had no connection to Earth at all to a new home in the galaxy. The grand majority of creatures accustomed to the planet before hand perished, usually unceremoniously, as nobody mourned the death of countless arthropods and other microfauna, while lauding anything which was big or impressive enough to gain attention. Earth, and the galaxy too, would never be the same again, not after what mankind did, however, life has adapted, and even flourished, in the Aftermath of our actions.

Golden Age: while it is interesting to see how mankind can progress and evolve in the future, achieving interplanetary rule and dominion, creating weapons strong enough to annihilate life several times over, with technology capable of shifting and morphing plants, animals, and even planets themselves into something entirely new, it is just as interesting to see how the life we were once familiar with for so many millennia. Here, we will see how plants and animals have adapted, or even been changed, because of the modern world, from the rapidly evolving and changing introduced life of Mars and other planets now inhabited by man and beast, to the creeping and crawling animals which find their home in the original forests, fields, mountains, and seas of Earth.
All of those sound like awesome ideas, especially 'Anthropology Anthology'.
Let us dance together.

On a planet lightyears away orbiting a red dwarf, there was a small species of alien around 25 centimetres long and 82 grams, with four wings and proboscises on its anterior to drink and breathe though. It is a cosmopolitan species, found on nearly every landmass in the planet's northern hemisphere, and is very hardy and adaptable.

Meanwhile, there was a species of intelligent alien also on the planet, who have dubbed the alien described above the Kurrererur (Koo-rare-rare-oo-wer). These aliens have just invented FTL travel, but have already managed to go to at least two solar systems and discover planets for them to inhabit. Among these planets is a small planet they dubbed Tzurae (roughly pronounced 'Chee-zoop-raid'), after an ancient spirit in their culture, notable for its distinctive sun colour and large northern hemisphere plain.

However, just as they are about to start terraforming Tzurae, war broke out. Another species of intelligent creature lived on a planet right next to Tzurae, and claimed it for themselves decades earlier. Years later, the two races finally manage to broker a peace deal. However, it came with rules, the first was that the southern hemisphere of Tzurae was now a property of the other aliens once terraforming was finished. Among the species introduced was the kurrererur, which was introduced by the hundreds. While the alien colonists of Mars thought nothing of them but pests, in time they would come be be a very common sight.
In short, Serina with aliens on Mars.

Idea I'm going to do in a few years time or so.

Tales of Anachronism

Basically, a species or two are transported from their home time/biome into a completely new one. They are observed in documentary style writing in two stages. First the initial introduction, with things like following individuals, species interactions, survival (Yes or No), behavioral adaptation, etc. Then, a second stage where we see some of the introduced species descendants an unspecified millions of years later (Will vary). Each "episode" will focus on one or two species transfers. Think "Walking With Dinosaurs" but following the lives of these transported species and their descendants.

Might as well share the first episode idea (I currently have about 7). Crested Penguins transported to Scotland.... in the Carboniferous Visean Scotland formation.
Current Projects:
Alien Earth
Ultimate Pangea

Potential Future Projects
Future of the North Star: TBD

Why are mammals almost out? They're very successful and seem to have a long way to go before dying down. If a Permian-level extinction happened, sure, but without that they will probably continue to dominate for many millions of years to come.

They could die out,not entirely without a big P-T extinction event.Just take a look at what are what their brothers(humans)are doing to them. For example many big mammals will go out in the near future(elephants, felines, canids, ursids, etc).Well until they are dead, let's welcome our mongoose and badger overlords!
