Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Yeah sure, no problem. Funnily enough, the plateau has even less above sea level land than Kerguelen, meaning there is potentially more to work with, though it is far less isolated, not far from either the Solomon Islands or New Guinea currently, though it was doubtlessly further south in prehistory if that's what you're going for. A few resources are here: wiki reference , size+location comparison mesozoic location and 3-d location for geological and perhaps climatological information. :)
Here's some sources for you. Plus http://www.largeigneousprovinces.org/sites/default/files/2011Jul-fig-1.jpg and http://www.mantleplumes.org/images/IngleFig1_500.gif these are some sources for where the plataeu was during the Mesozoic if you want to go really far back and determine what kinds of fauna might survive as relics. If not, then it should still help.

Are you interested in making a project about it? Anyone can do their own version of it if they please.

I might do. Seems interesting.

Also, another project I had : A Million Years BC. Dinosaurs survive on several Gondwannan fragments, and develop into forms reminiscent of Victorian images of dinosaurs. In the North-South American Interchange, they wipe out the North American mammals. Then, when massive landbridges open up (ala lemuria) they migrate across, and find themselves in conflict th mammals. Just other general pulp/ lost world things thrown in.
Travel back through time and space, to the edge of man's beggining... discover a time when man, woman and lizard roamed free, and untamed!

It is an epoch of mammoths, a time of raptors!

A tale of love in the age of tyrannosaurs!

An epic from the silver screen, brought right to your door!

I think for them to look like Victorian depictions of dinosaurs, it'd actually make more sense to make them some other kind of reptile (e. g. croc-line archosaurs).

Unnamed No K-Pg project: coming whenever, maybe never. I got ideas tho.

I was actually just thinking that. Maybe have something in a vein similar to Slurpasaurs (http://www.angelfire.com/ego/g_saga/slurpasaurs_article.html, rather then archosaurs. Though I feel like at least some non-avian dinosaurs should survive, but the big, lethargic forms should be giant varanids and tortoises.

Interesting as in 'interesting'. As in 'intriguing'. As in 'I'm interested to hear more'.

I've sometimes played around with the idea of a project based on an old discussion topic about what the world would be like if flowering plants (angiosperms) never evolved. Since they've been such a major part of terrestrial ecosystems for the last 100 or so million years the effect on terrestrial life would be pretty interesting.

Is there any interest in a no P-T community project (library format)? Me and several others have started on the skeleton, but, if anyone is interested, PM me if you want to help me get this anywhere further, as the skeleton (which will become the first page) is stored on a google documents page currently, and I don't want it vandalized.

The project would likely take place in the Campanian.

If flashman and/or Axolotyl Lord still desire specific specs on Ontong, then contrary to that Wikipedia article, the plateau's area is accurately about 1.86 million km2. Compared to real landmasses, this is around 0.86 times the size of Greenland, 1.08 times that of Alaska, 2.37 times New Guinea, 2.49 times Borneo or 3.16 times Madagascar. So yes, it would practically be a subcontinent, albeit one almost completely independent of the main ones.

You know, I don't I'll be doing the Ontong project now, too many others to deal with as it is. I'd rather pour my efforts into Sylvaria and Survivors' Descendants. Flashman or someone else is welcome to it though.
