Something similar to Another Sun rose on the British Empire, only in this case, the states of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Arkansas are teleported to the middle of the pacific, off the coast of California in the year 1963. The project would focus on several specific time periods.

All this pet talk has me thinking. What ever happened to petlandia? This isn't the first time it's been forgotten, but it'd be a shame to just throw it out the window.
Alright, so sphenodon and I have been discussing this matter, and we've made some real progress in moving it along. There where lots of contentions points in the past, and if we want to really get the ball rolling we're going to have to iron them out. However, some of the broader strokes (which where made previously). That would be the matter of the backstory. I think it was largely agreed on by those in the forum (and we'd like to run with this idea moving forward) that the setting of the project would be a terraformed world in a far-future scifi setting. The grand experiment in evolution and geology would be undertaken by an eccentric group of evolutionary biologists, and given control of their entrants they naturally chose their favorite pet species.

I've already created a worldmap that I'd like to humbly submit as our setting-
Spoiler: click to toggle
But there are still some details we have to iron out.
- Name- Lots of them have been discussed in the past. I'm in favor of Petlandia and Basket-in-the-Sky (one I came up with yesterday), but others have been discussed such as Rainbow Bridge and Domesticus
- Timescale- I've heard 30 million years thrown about before, but other than that I haven't heard much. I'd like to suggest 50 or even 100 myh, as they allow for both basal forms and those a bit more derived than 30 myh offers. I do think (and I believe it was agreed) that we should stick to one time period though.
- Management- A bit up in the air as of now. I'm willing to take part (even write an OP), though it should be noted this was, when it comes down to it, sphenodons idea, and lamna has played a big role in listing. I think any future decisions should involve their input.

So if this came to be we would choose an arrangement of species from the list, or would we choose that whole list of pet species? The way this was originally discussed the entire list would be introduced at the beginning, and allowed to continue after that. Some species might eventually go extinct before the time period the project takes place in.
It has come up on discord that this might be better off with a more selective pool of participants or even as a one person project, on the grounds that open collabs often fail and that it may compete with the existing ones. I myself don't see why this necessarily would be so but it's something to consider.

Okay, that sounds reasonable and pretty awesome
I agree that open collaborations mostly fail, and if anything, this project should be kept from following on those footsteps. A given small team of participants would be a great plan.

You're gonna need more than that to make sure the ecosystem doesn't fall apart. Putting random species on a random planet just because "you think it would look cool" isn't conducive to a functioning biosphere. You gotta put more thought into it than that.

Recent Projects The Lance That Pierced the Stars -The world of chordates throughout its history. A planet populated only by lancelets, algae, and zooplankton. Dogworld - A planet of Good Boys, man's gift to their dearest friends.
Old Projects The Twisted Mirror -my first project, in which some unknown event sometime before the carboniferous drastically changed the course of earth's evolution, and a new clade arose that replaced the tetrapods. And then evolution went nuts. Sphera Vitae -my second project. A universe of giant hollow spheres populated with life from Earth. Each is seperate and unique from one another, and some downright inhospitable, though life evolves and finds a way like nowhere else. Haemos Island - A tiny volcanic rock in the middle of the South Pacific. An island that is no paradise.

Projects Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates Last one crawling: The last arthropod
ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)
Potential ideas- Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized. Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.
Quotes "Arthropod respiratory systems aren't really "inefficient", they're just better suited to their body size. It would be quite inefficient for a tiny creature that can easily get all the oxygen it needs through passive diffusion to have a respiratory system that wastes energy on muscles that pump air into sacs. (Hence why lungless salamanders, uniquely miniscule and hyperabundant tetrapods, have ditched their lungs in favor of breathing with their skin and buccal mucous membranes.) But large, active insects already use muscles to pump air in and out of their spiracles, and I don't see why their tracheae couldn't develop pseudo- lungs if other conditions pressured them to grow larger."-HangingTheif
"Considering the lifespans of modern non- insect arthropods (decade-old old millipedes, 50 year old tarantulas, 100+ year old lobsters) I wouldn't be surprised if Arthropleura had a lifespan exceeding that of a large testudine"-HangingTheif

What would you guys think about a project that is both scientific and fantasy.
It would essentially be all sorts of small planets or dimensions connected to one another, each harboring small ecosystems or worlds but shared together by a transportation device/mechanism.
These worlds would be things like a bamboo mangrove forest, a big mountainous valley with strange wind spirits and jungles with butterflies evolving to look like tiki masks ... it, again, includes both fantasy as speculative evolution but I want to hear what you guys think ...
Or would one bigger project be better?

F.I.N.D.R Field Incident Logs A comprehensive list of all organisms, artifacts, and alternative worlds encountered by the foundation team.
At the present time, concepts within are inconsistent and ever shifting. Protectorates of the Proan Empire- The Sundered Realms - A fantasy realm where the world is divided into different sections. (Following names subject to change)
- The Gavell Kingdom
- The Everdark Forest
- The Lunar Tundra
- The Sand Sea
- The Asteroid Cloud
- The Rotting Shard
- The Orbital River
- The Outer Shadow
- Bottle Beasts - This Universes version of Pokemon.
Worlds Impacted by the Enlightened/Visceral War- The 'Verse Whale - The Homeworld of the two forces, a planet sized organism, and the unique life that has flourished on it.
- замороженный конец - An Ice Age world populated by tripodal organisms.
- [To Be Named] - A world of creatures with an arm for a head
- [To Be Named] - The Homeworld of a species where only the males are sapient.
- [To Be Named] - The home of a race of carnivorous, trap building beings.
- [To Be Named] - A planet of organisms that can link their minds, where two forms of intelligence have arisen.
Unaffiliated Universes- [To Be Named] - A parallel earth where the Synapsids took over after the Permian Extinction, among other resulting changes.
- نيو نيو امستردام - An abandoned Dyson Cylinder containing an Ecumenopolis now catering to our former pets and pests. (A concept developed entirely separate from DroidSyber's Arcology, I swear.)
- The Bleed - A vast universe where physics are more a suggestion than a rule.
Parakosmos Minor - Known Earth Pocket Universes, Natural or Artificial.- Island of Marsupials and Armadillos off the coast of South America
- A world inhabited by Woodpecker descendants (Again, not meant to be a clone of Serina, I in no way have that much detail ready for this.)
- Katiwala - Your typical Lost World...if i decide to go that route...
(And this is just the spec related stuff)
