Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Thanks! I can't wait to see your stuff too. I've already written a load of stuff for the reboot of Mutant Earth, but I'll develop it some more before posting. I want to give the reboot a new name, but I'm not sure what it should be.
Perhaps it can be called "Man's Legacy" or something of the like? As the GM animals would technically be so, though it would depend on some aspects of the project. I'm calling my written story Aftermath, and my spec project "The Miapenthecene" (a rough translation of reminder in Greek)
I was thinking of something like 'Humanity's Legacy', but Man's Legacy does sound better. I'll have a think about it.
Miapenthecene sounds cool, it's quite an original name. When can we expect to see it published? Not rushing you or anything, just wondering. :)
Huh. I actually had a similar idea as well - The Future Is Altered. Maybe all three of us could work together to combine our ideas into one mega-project?
While I would like to collab one day, to be honest I wouldn't really want to combine this particular project with anybody else's. I've been working on it for weeks now, every day for a few hours, and I don't really want my vision of it to be alterred by someone else's work. I think a swapping and discussing of concepts and ideas is a good thing, it makes you think about things you hadn't considered, but out-and-out collab - I'm sorry, but I'd rather not. :)
What were your ieas for The Future is Altered, Glarn? I've never really seen any projects by you before, so I'd be interested to see what you come up with. Let me guess - I bet there'll be descendants of chickenosaurs. Probably awesome and tyrannosaur-like, knowing you Glarn. :P

I don't think a project like this would work out, considering that I'm guessing all of us have already started working things out. Though I wouldn't be opposed to a project where the premise is GM animals, I do have some other terraformed planets in the world my projects take place in that could be used for a collab, as it would t interfere with anything else.

I also have chickensaurs.

I have chickenosaurs too, but I'm trying to think of a more original name for them. Maybe something like rostrodentids ('tooth beaks') as a group name.
I was going to have terraformed planets, in fact, in my original plans for this project I started creating some cactus, llama, and wallaby descendants for a terraformed Mars. But then I had a better, crazier idea . . . I don't want to give too much away, as I love this concept, and I'm gonna have a lot of fun with it. But basically . . . domes on Mars.

I call my chickensaurs gallusaurs instead, I imagine that "chickensaur" would sound a bit dorky to the public.

I also had ideas for giant domes on other planets/moons! If you looked at my first thread for this concept, which is actually titled Aftermath, I asked if there should be a look at some animals from domes and colonies on our moon. However I'm going t have mars terraformed in my project. I imagine that the earth was industrialized while mars was the planet which holds many endangered species.

I did consider the name gallusaur, but it seemed familiar, and I was sure it was already being used in another project.

Huh, I loved your Aftermath project, but I don't remember the giant dome thing. I've have to have to another look. Anyway, I think our domes should be quite different from each other. Mine are kinda . . . alive.

Play this while reading that concept.

By the way Flashman, I remember your idea for a project based around the ideas of someone named Buffon. Who was Buffoon and what were his theories?
Current/Completed Projects
- After the Holocene: Your run-of-the-mill future evolution project.
- A History of the Odessa Rhinoceros: What happens when you ship 28 southern white rhinoceri to Texas and try and farm them? Quite a lot, actually.

Future Projects
- XenoSphere: The greatest zoo in the galaxy.
- The Curious Case of the Woolly Giraffe: A case study of an eocene relic.
- Untittled Asylum Studios-Based Project: The truth behind all the CGI schlock
- Riggslandia V.II: A World 150 million years in the making

Potential Projects
- Klowns: The biology and culture of a creepy-yet-fascinating being

I have an idea about a prehistoric park type thing, but only with creatures from the paleozoic (+ ediacaran and triassic). I added the Triassic because, even though it's in the mesozoic, dinosaurs did not rule and it also had a tone of paleozoic leftovers (most of which where killed of during the triassic-jurassic extinction), so it definitely fits. I added Ediacaran because why not. Land vertebrates will consist of various amphibians, synapsids, and parareptiles, as well a various triassic archosauriformes. Land arthropods will include titanopterans, arthropleurid millipedes, trigonotarbids, and palaeodictyopterans. Aquatic life will include placodems, conodonts, anaspids, ostracoderms, trilobites, dinocarids, eurypterids, lobopods, orthocones, ammonites and many other weird sea creatures. There will be a diverse array of flora from throughout the paleozoic, including plants, algae, and even fungi.

What do you think?
Projects
Punga: A terraformed world with no vertebrates
Last one crawling: The last arthropod

ARTH-6810: A world without vertebrates (It's ded, but you can still read I guess)

Potential ideas-
Swamp world: A world covered in lakes, with the largest being caspian sized.
Nematozoic: After a mass extinction of ultimate proportions, a single species of nematode is the only surviving animal.
Tri-devonian: A devonian like ecosystem with holocene species on three different continents.

You'd have to make the concept pretty interesting and engaging if you want a following, as prehistoric parks have been done a lot (though it's usually dinosaurs and comparatively recent animals), and lot has already been done on the subject. Though that doesn't mean you can't make it work. I'd recommend asking in the shout box what people would be interested with seeing in this project if you want to go through with it.
