Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Registration is free and instantaneous.

I'd be willing to help out. I don't know a whole lot about farming, but I'll give it my best shot.

I'm loving the trend of spec projects having literally endless, surreal environments as their settings. Almost makes me feel like a sort of shared universe (multiverse?) thing should be set up.
That was actually a thing a while back. Even had Sayornis' permission to make the Library a part of it. Here's the link:

Hu, never noticed that before. Very much like what I have planned for F.I.N.D.R...

I never seen that before.
Discontinued projects:
The New Ostracoderms (i might continue with this project again someday)
The Americas (where in 58 million years from now in the future North and South America has both become isolated island continents)

All Expansions (my attempt at expanding the universe of All Tomorrows by Nemo Ramjet aka C.M. Kosemen, started June 6, 2018)
Anthropozoic (my attempt at expanding the universe of Man After Man and also a re-imagining of it, coming 2019 or 2020)
New Cenozoica (my attempt at expanding the universe of The New Dinosaurs and also a re-imagining of it, also coming 2019 or 2020)
All Alternatives or All Changes (a re-telling of All Tomorrows but with some minor and major "changes", coming June 10, 2018)

@mrmysterio: the No K-Pg project I'm working on, as well as oceanus and amammalia, exist in the same multiverse and are discovered almost simultaneously :3 hopefully if i ever get off my ass and post the other two on the forum that will be canonized :D
I do art sometimes.

"if you want green eat a salad"

Projects:
Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs.

Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes.

A collaborative project with somewhat lax rules of entry: people sketch or doodle or just describe in prose critters they'd like to submit and then we all try to retcon their connection to the already submitted critters. Could be futevo, altevo, xenevo or all three by setting it in an alternate universe.

what would evolution come up with if the land-conquering descendants of the early tetrapods either a) never evolved necks, and-or b) lost their tails?

Blank Space: a dimension that's just a big white room, similar to the Eyewitness museum. Unlike other dimensions covered here, it has its own fauna, most of which are coloured white.

The First Dinosaur: an inversion of The Last Dinosaur, which chronicles the very first dinosaur ever, appropriately named Primuprincipisaurus (good luck saying that correctly on the first try  ), meaning First Beginning Lizard.

Unicorns Reborn: think your cliched 'What if Dragons were Real' project, but with different unicorns from around the world.

I've had this idea in my head for a while now: a reboot of my old Hell project.

Basically, this would be a series of seven (Or maybe nine) interconnected caverns, each loosely corresponding to a deadly sin. Wrath, for instance, would be a lightly forested area where various lineages of animals are forced to compete with each other. I'd also be borrowing a lot from other underworld myths, from rivers in the Greek underworld to a mountain of knives from Chinese myths.

It would really be helpful if I had someone who knew religion and geography well enough to provide some assistance.

got the start of an exoplanet idea from an article in this month's astronomy magazine:

Quote:

[...]under certain conditions, [Pluto's atmosphere] can get thousands of degrees denser than it is now.

...flight is easy, but only for part of the year?(assuming an Earthlike world)

Quote:

Because it's so close to Pluto, the thin air is held in place far more strongly by gravity than it would be if it were puffed up higher. Consequently, the solar wind can't strip it away easily.

...so even if its sun is K or M, a planet might keep its atmosphere, if it doesn't extend as high as Earth's does?

A project based on the story of the Dogscape (an old creepypasta/Internet phenomenon from back in the day in which a demonic dog covers the Earth's surface, converting itself into a hellish dog-derived biosphere); rather than expanding across the entire planet the Dogscape only infects landmasses, and the Thing's central intelligence eventually dies, leading to the fragmentation and reduction of the Dog's dominion over the Earth until only certain groups (such as the dog-trees) remain. In addition to the survival and proliferation of the few species to survive living on the Dogscape itself before its collapse (dogs, flies, ticks, small bat and bird species that fed on arthropods, etc.), life would also return from the Arctic, the Antarctic, and the world's oceans.

The project would be formatted like Settlers from the Deep, showing the immediate aftermath and then the current stage of life on Earth after tens of millions of years' worth of recovery. The biota present would be a mixture of re-colonized "normal" groups (e.g. moss-derived trees, terrestrial penguin and seabird descendants, etc.) and groups derived from the long-dead Dogscape (e.g. photosynthetic dog-trees with a two-stage lifecycle (mobile puppy, sessile adult), sessile ambush predators, etc.). This would probably best fit into the Cafe Cosmique or Alternate Universe sections due to the affront to the laws of physics constituting the Dogscape's nature, but might work best as an Evolutionary Continuum project if the methods through the Dogscape came into existence by were handwaved away.

We have a Discord server! If you would like to join, simply message myself, Flisch, or Icthyander.
Some of my ideas (nothing real yet, but soon):
Refugium: A last chance for collapsing ecosystems and their inhabitants.
Pansauria: A terraforming project featuring the evolution of exactly one animal - the marine iguana.
Mars Renewed: An insight into the life of Mars thirty million years after its terraforming by humankind.
Microcosm: An exceedingly small environment.
Alcyon: A planet colonized by species remodeled into new niches by genetic engineering.
Oddballs: Aberrant representatives of various biological groups compete and coexist.

..and probably some other stuff at some point (perhaps a no K-T project). Stay tuned!

I'd help with it using elements from Islam, but I barely know anything about my religion.

I would be interested in that, Sphenodon.

Another idea I've had is a terraformed planet seeded with a lot of different lineages that never really took off on earth: drepanosaurs, chalicotheres, pareiasaurs, etc.

And another idea: A planet seeded with a wide range of lineages that evolved for the same ecological niches, forcing them to compete with each other. Basically, it's Carnivora Forum: The Planet.

I am all for spec based on other worldly or supernatural phenomenon.
