Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

There's Something About Mary...: A world in which the creatures discovered and analyzed by Mary Annings never evolved. No Plesiosaurs, no Icthyosaurs, no Pterosaurs, or their close kin.

A project that I'm developing.
This project takes place in another part of our universe (billions of light years away from our planet). The planet is mostly populated with earth life, but has some native life too. The world is actually made up of two planets connected by a bridge made of asteroids. These two planets are called Loki (old world) and Ikshtar (New world). The old world contains life from the Cambrian to the Devonian, while the new world contains life from the Permian to the Triassic. Life can sometimes travel between the planets by crossing the asteroid bridge, but it is a long journey because of the length of the bridge, so most life just settles their on the bridge. Life forms include endothermic terrestrial opabinas, terrestrial tripodal placoderm descendents, land sharks, serpentine avians, terrestrial ichtyosaurs, and more.

A alternate universe using some of the more obscure prehistoric animals, like Bothriolepis, Lystrosaurus, Baurusuchus, Corythosaurus, and yeah, you get the idea. A world with some of the more obscure prehistoric animals (Although I think it'd be more interesting if there were of smaller sizes...)

I had an idea or a very small project, almost a one shot deal, about some islands off the coast of South America created by a hot spot comparatively recently in earth's history. The most unique thing about the islands is a species of sloth that, thanks to a lack of predators, spends most of its time on the ground and near water.

Kind of still want to do this, but I keep feeling that, other than the sloths, it would come out a little too similar to the Galapagos in terms of... everything else.

I have a feeling that it wouldn't be very Galapagos-like, except in the broadest strokes. (if nothing else, wouldn't competition with sloths change at least one thing there?)

certainly, I'd like to see this island(s) of yours.

Well they seem pretty close to each other, so I'd think they would have similar faunal interchange. If I do work out all the kinks with the idea, the end result would be that the islands would be a setting for different events in my project, A bit like The Muertes Archipelago in Jurassic Park. Though I suppose the history of the islands can help distinguish itself for the story.

Huh. I'm working on a very similar idea, actually: things like drepanosaurs, armadillo lizards and the like.

A project like Sheatheria or Diyu, where animals from different times are taken to a different world, however the worlds physics would be random, like some areas would be permanently sunny, others would have floating islands, and some would be in permanent winter.

Another project where the sun gets much hotter, and the only relief comes in the night, showing how animals would have to adapt to these changes.

I kind of want to expand on the Spec elements of my project so I'm doing more then just prattling on about it and asking a potpourri of questions. Got a few alien races, and subsequently planets, that could be interesting, and some other ideas I'm worried might not be as likes due to being looser with the physics. Then again, stuff like the Library is very popular right now, so maybe if I present it right.

Katiwala and my previous mentioned islands would be a part of this, BTW.

Final SE Lifelist standings

BREAKING NEWS
We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this cutting edge report.
ATTENDANCE DROPS DRASTICALLY ON SE SERVER
This past Monday on Discord, famous server Speculative Evolution took a hit in the attendance office when it's offline member list suddenly reappeared. Mods scrambled to rectify the situation, but unfortunately there was little anyone could do. Server member Ivan was asked what he thought of the situation. "So long as Flisch, lord of machines and scion of Urborg lives, all will be well". SE, (in)famous for it's eccentric userbase, has recently been spiraling downward, and now we have hard conformation of the decline. Moderator "High Lord" Icthyander states "There is nothing to be concerned about, Discord is merely changing its UI again", but members are beginning to suspect the honesty of their staff.
Stay tuned, we'll be back with more at 11.

Did we suddenly jump to the naming game? :D

I had a concept for an alien world where limbs never really evolved, but I'm not really sure about anything else besides that.
