Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I'm going to do something with Maastrichtian Laramidia. Maybe write about the domestic animals of humans displaced in time there, maybe a nature program following spring, maybe even go back the the old zoo formula.

BTW have you read my response about Meniscoessus?

Given how common it was, it could either be a pest, or, like our beloved guinea pigs, easily domesticated to be food.

Yes, if I do domestics they will be one of my focuses, somewhere between a guinea pig and a rabbit, with some very large breeds, long hairs, etc.

I currently have no intention to do an Alt KPg world, but I have some concepts, so I'm dumping them here in case I ever decide to do it.

The Extinction : Happens sometime in the Late Paleocene, with an asteroid, smaller than the HE one, hitting the Arctic Ocean. This shifts forward the date of the PTM to right before the extinction, as the whole mosquito fern thing is stopped, causing a warmer present day with more far reaching rainforests.

The Fauna :

-Suchians
---Crocodylids and Alligatorids : Abundant worldwide with similar niches as HE crocodiles, although with some slight differences.
---Notosuchians : Small, badger sized warm blooded omnivores, abundant in Australia and S America, with a few sebecosuchians in S America thrown in for good measure.
---Mahjangasuchids : Probably survive in Africa and Madagascar, although I don't see them surviving to present day.
---Dyrosaurs : Tropical oceans, mostly in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
---Gavialids : Mostly in Oceania and SE to S Asia, with a few in Madagascar as riverine or mangrove predators of fish.

-Theropods
---Dromaeosaurs : Common in Eurasia and Africa as mid sized predators. Unenlagines as Australian piscivores, like spinosaurs but smaller.
---Troodonts : More well represented in the Americas, but with a few large herbivores in Asia, like therizinosaurs but with less funky hands.
---Oviraptors : Not much planned except they survive.
---Ratites : Similar to HE, large, tall browsing birds found in many parts of the world.
---Galliformes : Poor flying small to mid sized ground fowl, found worldwide.
---Penguins : Flying basal penguins abundant in Southern Hemisphere, with a few aquatic forms in Oceania and Antarctica.
---Other Birds : Due to timeline divergence, most modern bird lineages will not evolve, so there will be similar but different lineages that hold the roles of our birds.

-Mammals
---Afrotherians : Found in Africa and Eurasia, with small insectivores, large predators and a few rodent like forms.
---Xenarthans : See oviraptors.
---Primates : Basal primates well represented in Eurasia and Africa, more derived, lemur like creatures abundant in Eurasia, Africa, M America and N Australia.
---Laurasiatheria : Hooved herbivores, like on Earth, found worldwide, along with some Northen Hemisphere carnivores. Also has whale analogues, derived from otter like predators.
-----Tingamarrids : Australian and Antarctican omnivores.
---Monotremes : More abundant here, found in Antarctica and Australia.
---Marsupials : Possum like creatures in SAmerica, Madagascar and Australia, some larger diprotodont like terrestrial forms in parts of Australia.
---Sparassodonts : Restricted to the Caribbean and Antarctica as rare hunters of smaller prey.
---Dryolestoids : Common small predators and omnivores in Eurasia and N America.
---Allotherians : Abundant rodent like creatures worldwide. Gondwanatheres have some hippo like forms.
---Cimolestids : Probably don't survive to modern day.

-Lepidosaurs
---Geckoes : Abundant worldwide, similar to HE forms.
---Lacertoids : Abundant worldwide, similar to HE forms.
---Scincomorphs : Largely represented by the larger polyglyphanodonts, which are herbivores mostly found in Eurasia.
---Iguanids : Mostly smaller insectivorous species. Giant aboreal herbivores found in Madagascar.
---Varanoids : Common as mid sized hunters in Oceania, Africa and SE Asia.
-----Mosasaurs : May or may not survive, if so will be restricted to small, riverine species.
---Madstoids : Abundant Gondwanan constrictors, found in Australia and the Antarctic Peninsula, with a handful in Madagascar.
---Boids and Pythons : Common throughout the tropics as constrictors, with pythons in SE, S Asia, Africa and N Australia, and boas in S America.
---Other Snakes : See Other Birds above.
---Sphenodonts : Tuatara like creatures found in New Zealand, but also found in parts of Antarctica.

-Turtles
---Trionychids : Softshells are abundant worldwide, mostly in Eurasia and N America.
---Panchelonids : Similar to HE sea turtles.
---Dermochelyds : Slightly more abundant than HE leatherbacks.
---Emydids : Common with similar niches as HE counterparts.
---Geoemydids : Common, similar to HE counterparts.
---Testidunids : Found throughout Africa, Eurasia and N America. Giant, sauropod like forms can be found in Madagascar and N America, although not related.
---Meiolanids : Found in Australia and the Americas, take the role of the now extinct ankylosaurs.
---Chelids : Similar to HE counterparts, if more abundant.

-Chordistoderes
---Champsosaurs : May or may not survive to present day.
---Basal forms : Will survive, probably restricted to some inland lakes in Eurasia.

I was thinking of doing a project about a world where the inaccurate fossil reconstructions are real.

Any type of project where the main gimmick is that it's narrated from the point of view of an animal.

Yes, that's exactly what he said....
Projects and concepts that I have stewing around
Extended Pleistocene- An alternate future where man died out, and the megafauna would continue to thrive (may or may not include a bit about certain future sapients)
Inverted World- An alternate timeline where an asteroid hit during the Barremian, causing an extinction event before the Maastrichtian. Dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and notosuchians make it to the present, along with a host of other animals.
Badania- Alien planet that has life at a devonian stage of development, except it exists in the present day.
Ido- Alien world where hoppers (derived flightless ballonts) and mouthpart-legged beasts are prevalent.
Leto- Life on a moon orbiting a gas giant with an erratic orbit; experiences extremes of hot and cold.
The Park- ???
Deeper Impact- a world where the K-Pg extinction wipes out crocodilians, mammals, and birds; squamates, choristoderes, and turtles inherit the earth.
World of Equal Opportunity- alternate history where denisovans come across Beringia and interact with native fauna. Much of the Pleistocene fauna survives, and the modern humans that end up crossing into North America do not overhunt the existing animals. 10,000 years later, civilizations exist that are on par with European and Asian societies.
The Ditch- Nothing is what if seems..

This is very vague, but something I want to work on later. I don't know exactly where I would put this either (alternate evo or alternate universe), but this will probably change over time as it becomes more solid. The basic idea is a naturalist out in the woods finds himself in a different world. (though not as different as he might think). This world is consistent of several "continents" of incredibly shallow seas, sandbanks, mangrove swamps, and raised islands, which are in turn surrounded by deep seas. The largest contiguous landmass is about the size of Australia. The planet is populated by a menagerie of bizarre, yet familiar, organisms. Polychete worms, fish, squid and corals are familiar, but several other animals are most certainly not. The dominant form of life are descendants of early turtles, and dinosaurs are nowhere to be see, yet there are what appear to be birds. (these are in fact relatives of the turtles with convergent features). Armored fish are still prevalent, and some of the cephalopods have conical shells. This would appear to be earth, but not quite the same one we are accustomed to. Several mass extinctions hadn't hit earth, and we are in the equivalent of the cretaceous. This bizarre world even have sapient turtle derivatives, who work with our hero in his quest to figure out what the hell is going on. Also, pictures. (mostly about the sophonts.) I guess chemistry class is good for something.

Uhhh... this is embarrassing. How do I get a photo from my computer here? Thanks. No really. Please.

Also, maybe magic here. Maybe.

Speculative Evolution Projects-

Other Relevant Work-

Final SE Lifelist standings

BREAKING NEWS
We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this cutting edge report.
ATTENDANCE DROPS DRASTICALLY ON SE SERVER
This past Monday on Discord, famous server Speculative Evolution took a hit in the attendance office when it's offline member list suddenly reappeared. Mods scrambled to rectify the situation, but unfortunately there was little anyone could do. Server member Ivan was asked what he thought of the situation. "So long as Flisch, lord of machines and scion of Urborg lives, all will be well". SE, (in)famous for it's eccentric userbase, has recently been spiraling downward, and now we have hard conformation of the decline. Moderator "High Lord" Icthyander states "There is nothing to be concerned about, Discord is merely changing its UI again", but members are beginning to suspect the honesty of their staff.
Stay tuned, we'll be back with more at 11.

A terra formed world project involving rats and their population of the world's tetrapod niches/spaces. Left about 100 million years and covered. Could be changed to include all Earthly rodents if necessary for biodiversity.

Because half of your posts are just repeating what others already said and the other half are little more than one sentence descriptions of future projects that could have been listed in one single post and not choked up the thread.

I would start a alternative evolutionary world and project named The Ice Age and it is about how the last ice age takes place after the end of the cretaceous period instead of the Pleistocene epoch and it also shows how dinosaurs and most of the other animals lived, adapted, and survived alongside this all new ice age.
Discontinued projects:
The New Ostracoderms (i might continue with this project again someday)
The Americas (where in 58 million years from now in the future North and South America has both become isolated island continents)

All Expansions (my attempt at expanding the universe of All Tomorrows by Nemo Ramjet aka C.M. Kosemen, started June 6, 2018)
Anthropozoic (my attempt at expanding the universe of Man After Man and also a re-imagining of it, coming 2019 or 2020)
New Cenozoica (my attempt at expanding the universe of The New Dinosaurs and also a re-imagining of it, also coming 2019 or 2020)
All Alternatives or All Changes (a re-telling of All Tomorrows but with some minor and major "changes", coming June 10, 2018)
