Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A evo cont project set in and around the immediate area surrounding my house. It would take a look at how the plants take over the area, the fate of the animals on the property and other things. It would expand from small scales in the future i.e. 10 years up to large timescales i.e. 50 million years. I think I might actually do this one.

Double post but another idea.

A project about a island during the Jurassic, highlighting what the Mesozoic equivalent of the Hawaiian Islands/Galapagos would have in terms of endemism and interesting small animals. I figured the Cretaceous would be too cliche because of Europe and the Triassic wouldn't be useful because Pangea. Haven't decided what epoch of the Jurassic yet, will have to do more research.

EDIT: Changed era to epoch, thanks for pointing that out Caledonian.

You mean epoch. Era is a longer measurement of time that comprises of periods; I.e the Mesozoic era. Epochs are much smaller and several of them make up a period, such as the Holocene (not a Jurassic epoch I know but I can't remember any Jurassic epochs)

Gosh, this is such a great and original idea. You should totally do it.

A terraformed project, with the only animals introduced are Tardigrades, Algae and Snails. (Oh, and tons of microscopic creatures)

Im not going to do this but...

It has been 20 million years. After a great era of prosperity, man had abandoned Earth, and now have a great empire floating in space. On Earth, most traces have vanished. Introduced animals, like Australian Camels, American Hippopotami and Arctic Penguins thrive, blended wholly into their new ecosystems, which act as if they had always been like that.

But there is another trace of mankind. On a new landmass in the pacific, a bizzare creature pops its eyes out of its den. Its yellow reptilian eyes survey the surroundings, as a large bird passes by. It bursts out of its den, revealing a creature unheard of in the natural history of Earth. It has smooth, scaly skin, sharp teeth and pronatable arms, and has the overall look of a dinosaur...but what dinosaur?

The Park has long closed. Now, on the new world of Nova Sorna, welcome to the Jurassic Safari.

If you like it, go on and grab it.

Also, here's a list of some of the projects I'm working on:

Extended Jurassic: An alternative evolution scenario where the conditions of the late Jurassic continue on through the Cretaceous, meaning that the K-Pg wipes out a very different set of fauna.

The Future is Altered: An attempt to terraform and colonize an Earth-sized planet goes awry after the initial reshaping of the atmosphere and climate, leaving only the would-be colonists' many genetically modified animals and plants to take over.

Xensaron: Similar to the above scenario, only the organisms introduced are a bunch of species that I feel don't really get enough love around here, from drepanosaurs to Moschops.

Pentrex: Another terraformed world, this one is by far the most ambitious I'm undertaking. The ecosystems of some of the most famous theropods of all time-Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Velociraptor, and Allosaurus-are transplanted onto an Earth-sized planet, with the very different fauna groups of each environment having to compete with and adapt to each other (Loosely inspired by this old thing)

Bellator: Yet another terraformed world, this one introduces several different groups of creatures that each filled the same ecological niche; dromornithids, gastornithids, and ratites, for example, or rauisuchians, gorgonopsids, and sebecids.

Terra Incognita: Basically an alternate earth in a pulp fiction setting, complete with lost worlds, ancient civilizations, and slurpasaurs!

Sol and its Surrounding Worlds: Basically a project dealing with life on other planets of the solar system in Terra Incognita.

Time Rip: For the Cafe Cosmique, this will basically be a remake of the old Dinosaurs Attack! card series, but with more accurate dinosaurs and decidedly less gore.

How is this a biological project?
Travel back through time and space, to the edge of man's beggining... discover a time when man, woman and lizard roamed free, and untamed!

It is an epoch of mammoths, a time of raptors!

A tale of love in the age of tyrannosaurs!

An epic from the silver screen, brought right to your door!

Sorry I should have expanded, the life of each invaded territory of the empire is put together with the smashed together continents and left to evolve for 100 MY before they all collide to form a supercontinent, then left for another 100 my

I'm also hemming and hawing over weather to add Gondwanatheres or Caviomorphs. I feel like I try to replace rodents with Allotheres in everything I do lately.
Why not have both take different niches? I don't want to give too much away on the forum, but in an upcoming project I'm working on I have rodents and Gondwanatheres coexist in Antarctica. There are so many different "rodent" niches, they can easily coexist.

What about a world where Dryolestids instead of Therians took over Australia and South America? And what about a terraformed world where the only species introduced are "living fossils" and left there for 50 million years.

A TL where either saurischians or ornithischians never evolve. Prosauropods flourish into every herbivore niche with pseudo-hadrosaurs being a thing. Either that or heterodontosaurs become the top carnivores.
