| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! A terraformed world project like Serina, where the only tetrapod introduced is a species of garter snake. |

Garter snakes can eat fish, worms and insects. Will need unique fish to distance the project from Serina though. |

It doesn't matter what species you use... It matters how you use those species. |

Y tho Even if someone made a project extremely similar to or blatantly ripping off another project, if it was high quality it would still be interesting. (Yeah, a project that's deliberately ripping off another project probably wouldn't be very good, but that's not the point.) Originality is important, but I wouldn't consider it to be a necessity for a project to be interesting and worth reading. Look at how every single entertainment industry functions. Originality is great when it's successful, but unoriginality is a safer bet when people already know what they want. I don't see why this can't apply to spec projects. Spec is certainly a 'genre' heavily centered around originality, but if someone makes a project that isn't so original I don't see why it has to detract from it as long as it isn't identical to the thing it's copying. If you disagree, I certainly understand why, but I think it's a bit extreme to consider it a necessity to modify concepts entirely for the purpose of distancing them from existing concepts. Many times i've seen someone talk about a spec concept they thought up, and the immediate response is "that's been done before". If it's interesting and intuitive enough that multiple people come up with it independently, why should the fact that it's been "done before" be used to inhibit someone from exploring their own specific interpretations and ideas of a spec concept? |

I was working on a project before joining, but discovered that its very similar to Eden on this forum. Here is what I basically had: -Corporation (no idea who they were or what they did at this point) have been funding "de-extinction" and backbreeding projects, and come to own a massive plot of land (I have the area picked out and am working on how they gained that land from the current owners), and decides to open a park to display the results of these projects (Rau Quagga, Taurus Project Aurcohs, Atlas Lions ext). -Eventually they become a sanctuary for groups wanting to allow animals such as Chickensaurus to hatch, as well as providing a large area for the breeding and raising of cloned or modified animals such as "Asian Mammoths" (aka Asian elephants being modified to appear like mammoths), Early prototype passenger pigeons, and a stable and safe population of cloned Pyrenees Ibex. -From this they begin to produce animals specifically for display, such as Neoraptors of various types (Bird + teeth, long tail and fingers, That + more advanced, then mostly raptor like and self replicating), and animals that highly resemble long extinct ones but are not technically that species (because there is no magic DNA that survives in rock bones or amber, so they use modern species and outright artificial DNA to build an animal that looks, quacks and swims like a duck, so they call them a duck). They even engineer mythical animals such as Unicorns (Horse + Horn), just because they can. -At the height of their popularity and success this corporation has thousands of species on display and receive a huge profit from both the park, and trained animals used in movies and tv shows, and pet sales of safe animals that just resemble extinct species. -At some point SOMETHING bad happens and either one of two things happens (I haven't decided which). Either A: Public opinion turns on them and they are forced to remove (or destroy) all modified animals from the world. Or B: The company decides on their own to do this for some reason. -Regardless, the result is that the corporation (who have also had fingers in many other pies) send all these animals, DNA data for potentially anything else, and staff, colonists and crew off to another world. This is not faster than life, and is a generational ship. The end result of this is that a planet will have both modern animals, humans, and animals that highly resemble extinct species of all types. So I know a lot of that is similar to Eden. Is it different enough though? What could I do to change it if it is too similar? |

I sorta gained inspiration from diyu for this, basically it's a alternate evolution project where lifeforms from the Triassic had evovled in a huge and i mean huge cave system that is about 5 kilometers long. |
|
Projects in work Raparia Future project ideas: Tale of the horned beasts - A alternate evolution project where ceratosaurus never went extinct and instead evovled to better fit the new challenges they shall face ahead of them. Umber - A alternate universe project where portals have been opening up to a moon named "umber" other then a few species of freshwater and saltwater fish, as well as invertebrates. Pangolins,Iguanas,Noasauriade, and Cuttlefish are the most prominet group of animals. | |

A terraformed world populated with only non-tetrapod oceanic life. The continents are left completely bare, so sea life will have to invade the land all over again. Also no abyssal species will be introduced, so life from the photic zone will adapt to these areas as well. |

An alternate mesozoic period where the ankylosauria never evolved, and instead, a group of turtle ancestors diverge to take that role instead (got the idea by looking at possible turtle ancestors: https://www.earthhistory.org.uk/wp-content/Hypothesisedevolutionfromnonturtle.jpg ) |
