Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

He actually gave me permission to continue it in his stead - in time, I might actually get around to doing it.

Also, a project idea I had: A project that redoes the wildlife of the island in Swiss Family Robinson. I'm thinking that the island itself would be in the Atlantic, with endemic linages from both Africa and South America making it there. However, it's still very much in its infancy - any suggestions for it would be appreciated.

Was chatting with Zorc today about entirely volant trophic webs (think aeroplankton) and I began pondering the possibly of using something like this for a mini community project, akin to that of the short-term spec craze that's being going on. In fact I think the 'spec with a clear end goal' as a general concept has great potential for a community based project
Projects Currently Being Worked Upon:

Karkinos: Where faith meets myth on a world of the strangely familiar.
Under New Suns: The forums own colonisation race! Steep yourself in my lore....

Projects in suspension (for when inspiration hits):

- Galapagaia
- Rich Man's Ark (nice little bit of community spec :P)
- Ichor

Projects for a latter day:

OK. Serious time.

Maybe a speculative biology project based on Flat Earth and associated conspiracy theories? Like giant humans, giant "silicon" trees, Leviathan and Behemoth (flerfers tend to deny the existence of dinosaurs entirely so we could have a unique take on these), dragons, etc.

I know a Vsauce video isn't something that could seem very relevent to spec, but skip to 8:25.

Some very interesting spec potential, I must say. Just hand wave the sun disappearing.
Reminds me of this.

I think Beetleboy was planning something kind of similar, based on Biblical cosmology and Young Earth Creationism. Lots of alternate cosmologies would make for interesting spec. Here's another variation on the Flat Earth theories that might be fun to explore: Great Ice Ball Earth.

Oh, and I might have mentioned these before, but the giant trees of Flat Earth lore remind me of the "glass worms" of Mars, described here and here as the organic constructions of enormous worms. In reality, they are just an optical illusion produced by canyons with sand dunes in them, but it's fun to speculate...

*looks in puzzlement for several minutes at this picture*

to me, one of the obvious questions (at least to me), that I'd need to ask is this: does each pond have its own sun?
