Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Placid - a planet where one year=one day
So, its the opposite of Mercury, where one day equals one year?
I thought it was 2.5 days...but not the opposite, as I am under the impression that both of these are true:

* a rapid orbit close in by a small star, can zip around a year orbit in one day, likely even an Earth day.

* a revolution slow enough that one local day is the same length as the year, regardless of the planet's distance from its star.

A planet where only domesticated animals are introduced.

I also had this really bizarre planet solely inhabited by Pterodaustro.

Hm, Ive had this idea for a while now, just wanted to share it with you guys.

So here's the premise: An archipelago of islands (the largest island is around new Zealand-sized or even bigger) off the east coast of Australia/ Southeast Asia harboring megafaunal birds, mekosuchines, and a few small flightless bats, marsupials, and monotremes. The Islands were also colonized by the British as well as a few other countries/ cultures, so there are also a few introduced species. Iconic birds include: Carnivorous anatid relatives vaguely resembling Bullockornis, giant giraffe-geese, paleognaths somewhat resembling Sheather's Aardgeese, giant ratites, and kiwi-like corvids. So its basically like Lemuria with birds, or New Zealand on steroids.

Avisia, an island archipelago isolated for over 88 million years, and is know home to megafaunal birds, mekosuchine crocodiles, and many relics. (currently in infancy)

Here's a idea i been thinking of for a while now basically it's a terraformed world project but the idea for this one is only introducing 5 sets of creatures to 5 continents then i will time skip 50 million years in the future and the continents would have all collided where the 5 set of creatures for the 5 continents would be introuduced into each other would anyone be interested in this project??.

Projects in work
Raparia

Future project ideas:
Tale of the horned beasts - A alternate evolution project where ceratosaurus never went extinct and instead evovled to better fit the new challenges they shall face ahead of them.

Umber - A alternate universe project where portals have been opening up to a moon named "umber" other then a few species of freshwater and saltwater fish, as well as invertebrates. Pangolins,Iguanas,Noasauriade, and Cuttlefish are the most prominet group of animals.

An open collab similar to the Ecology of Skull Island Project, about various semi-kaiju creatures on an island that may be physically/evolutionarily impossible in real life but still "make sense". The island is a remnant of Gondwana. I'd have a list of groups that people could use for it.

I know a Vsauce video isn't something that could seem very relevent to spec, but skip to 8:25.

Some very interesting spec potential, I must say. Just hand wave the sun disappearing.
Reminds me of this.

Although I'm like 99% certain that I'll stick with xenobiology, and that I absolutely suck at imagining plausible evolutionary paths for Earth animals, I've occasionally entertained the idea of a terraformed ocean world (at least 80% water).

Aside from having the necessary plankton, bacteria, and various other microorganisms, it would be seeded with sperm whales, a bunch of squid, and various other arbitrary invertebrates because why not?

Whatever happens with this idea in the future, I really like the idea of a lineage of terrestrial cetaceans, squid that may or may not look like weird vertebrates, whales somehow evolving gills, and floating, pelagic forests of photosynthetic jellyfish (or something like that).
If you like balloons, the color red, or mixotrophic plants derived from photosynthetic vertebrate-analogues, then check out my xenobiology project Solais

I think a waterworld where whales shrink to take over the roles of fish and squid go through another period of domination would be super interesting with the odd generalists then establishing an even weirder ecosystem after an extinction event.

How about a predator free huge lake dominated entirely by pacman frogs or axolotl descendants that became neotenic.Plenty of resources such as fish to sustain a radiation event for amphibians.

Nova Zealandia? Name them after the explorer that found them? Name them after a British region, after all Australia had New Wales, why not have New Slough or something?
