| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. The documentary "The Future is Wild" was one of the most remarkable works of speculative evolution, but we now know that most of the beings described, their ancestors, their anatomy and physiology proved implausible and sometimes ridiculous depending on animal and the time where live. It was also where they were born some of the most common clichés ideas in the spec evo as multiple time periods, terrestrial cephalopods, quadrupedal birds (hardly outstanding, but observe the spink) and others. Anyway, it occurred to me to make a little remake of this documentary, a mini project where I apply my knowledge to change and a way to show the changes that need future scenarios is wild to improve and be more plausible. These only focus on environments that were out in the documentary, but unlike this, I'll add other animal species to complement more each ecosystem. To make it more similar to each of the scenarios, I will separately, ie each time belong to a different timeline from one another. content 5 million years in the future Humans reached its maximum climax and then they were destroyed to themselves in their continued attempt to retain their old world, at the expense of the environment, and organisms and living beings. In the end, they perished along with other important forms of life, most part of the terrestrial megafauna quantity and the marina was extinguished. 5 million years later, Earth has been partly recovered, many animals that had drawn the event have partly replaced left ecological niches long time. the rodents, mustelids and suidae are some of the animals most commonly in the ecosystem. North European Ice North American Desert Amazon Grasslands Mediterranean Basin 100 million years in the future Mankind disappeared, his remains have been forgotten by time, and no trace of them left. The amount of time that has passed has done everything to change. Mammals during this period have lost much of its diversity due to two minor extinction event that slaughtered a large part of its population. They were not alone, a considerable amount of birds and reptiles also perished, even recovered quickly even began to evolve new classes and groups totally different from their ancestors. The Earth's climate is mainly tropical, with few glaciers formations in northern planet near the great plateau, one of the largest ranges from the Himalayas. Antarctic Forest Bengal Swamp Great Plateau Shallow Seas 200 million years in the future A burst of gamma rays struck the earth during mid human age. Fleeting and silent, exterminated a lot of species on the surface of the planet, destroyed the vegetation, and incinerated all forms of life on Earth. The survivors were short-lived, because the composition of the atmosphere change, it became toxic, without plants or autotrophic organism capable of producing oxygen, thus remained largely unchanged. They spent tens of millions of years for life that was recovered. Only resistant animals from the depths of the oceans, who hid underground and could withstand the lethal weather did not perish. Millions of years after the event a new world is born, the Earth has united again and formed a new supercontinent, amasia, dominated by a new variety of animals and plants, many are new pioneers trying to reconquer the land. The few that remained were vertebrate fish and elasmobranchs, which diversified when environmental conditions were restored. Molluscs had also shown to be resistant competing for dominance of both the land and ocean in this new era. The insects survived, remained strong and were among the few terrestrial animals have survived the worst mass extinctions. Joining them some types of small autotrophs, relatives of mosses and lichens, they had expanded and proliferated in the last 100 million years, filling the atmosphere of oxygen and creating the necessary conditions are also found to land, was again habitable for animals. Gannetwhale![]() this species of aquatic bird has been modified in several ways, especially its appearance, which was similar to a pinniped for no reason, seems more plausible that it could develop a plan similar to a cormorant because this species develops in about 5 billion years, and with this short period of time that there would not be many changes, plus we are dealing with a bird and not a mammal which obviously has a completely different morphology. I guess I'd walk something like a penguin, but only briefly. I decided to also change the size of 4 m to a more reasonable size as 1 or 1.5 meters. his lifestyle would not be so distinct to other current seabirds, would live in shallow coasts, migrating every season between coasts. They build their nests near the coast, and would care it. his defensive method to vomit, would not be implausible, it probably would develop. Edited by Dragonthunders, Dec 27 2014, 06:49 PM.

Shagrat![]() Well this species, I did not so many changes, it is among the few animals that can be considered plausible in the documentary. Its size is not too much comparing to other types of rodents that have existed, its morphology has not changed greatly. Even though, I took the liberty of doing it more plump. about their behavior does not seem improbable, other animals that live in large groups able to create strategies in a situation of danger. The Great Shaggy Boar![]() This large herbivore descended from pigs live in southern Europe, migrating in large herds between stations. Are close relatives of the scrofas, but unlike them, are much bigger than them, reaching 3 meters in length, and half a ton. Many live in large groups of dozens of individuals, always move in search of food and shelter. It is omnivorous, feeding on grass and moss growing soil to root, use their tusks to dig beneath the snows. When the vegetation is little they have any other food, like carcasses or living animals. They have a dark brown fur that does not change by season. The species is polygamous, the males tend to fertilize a large number of females. Its gestation period lasts between 8-11 months which arise between two to four offspring, which is cared for less than one year. note: no canonical species to the original documentary Edited by Dragonthunders, Dec 27 2014, 06:49 PM.

Coldplain weasel![]() The mustelids would probably be one of the likely candidates to fill the niche of predators if most of the carnivores disappear. The Snowstalker is one example being the apex predator of the continent. however, would not be alone, would have other mustelids that also would fill other vacant niches. Weasels could evolve and grow large enough to become secondary predators. This is one of the results, the cold plains weasel is a descendant of the Least weasel. unlike their ancestors, they have grown to a length of 1 meter long. Are active hunters, have developed a white fur that allow them to go unnoticed to achieve close enough to catch their prey so. feed on a variety animals such as rabbits, shagrats, and if possible, offspring of great shaggy boar. Deathgleaner The existence of this species that would be impossible because despite the human-caused extinction, species would have easily even they would take that niche in no time. chosen to replace the real vultures, which could survive the extinction. Note: If this is not possible, it might be a kind of corvid or hawk that could take this niche. Spink This is an improbable case of evolution, as it has several problems both physiological and ecological niche. to be impossible the existence of this bird, a possible candidate who could replace is the pocket gophers, rodents are abundant throughout North America and easily cover the niche of Spink. ![]() |

Desert Rattleback![]() Is perhaps one of the most plausible animals found in this ecosystem, it is not exaggerated anatomical or lifestyle. but I found some things that seemed unnecessary. among them was the lack of hair on his head. Also, I change its appearance a bit because it did not seem much like a rodent in the documentary. The plates here was optional because if they could not or did not evolve in just 5 million years. |

Carakiller![]() As all the birds in the documentary, this time specifically, has several erroneous and unnecessary features, including its ancestor. When I went to start designing this species, I was watching on the avifauna of South America and realized it was not necessary for the carakiller descended of caracara. apparently there is already a bird that is on track to be the next terror bird, this is called seriema, and is not currently threatened. So instead of making a type of giant flightless caracara, I decided to do a larger version of seriema. these birds already carry in his head a group of feathers, almost similar to those of the original carakiller, nothing but these are located forward of the head. maybe these can use the same way. And finally, its size seemed to me a bit exaggerated 2 meters, so this might give you 1.5 to 1.7 meters high. This smaller size could be compensated by a group life. |

Babookari![]() the babookari in the future is wild, described as the last sort of living primate on the planet, descendant from Uakari, which has adapted successfully to a life on the ground, live in large groups mobilized by the Amazon savannah . However, there are several points in this species had to get right first, descent. the Uakari are quite adapted to an arboreal life proablemente would not be good candidates to become terrestrial primates, a better choice I looked, were the Capuchins (Cebid monkeys), which are currently under way to becoming terrestrial primates. another thing is about their behaviors, ie not to make tools developed as fishing baskets (makes no sense), and did not use its tail to communicate. be better means of communication gestures and shouts. the tail would be reduced for better ground movement. eventually would take away the idea described on this would be the "last living primate" because, even though a considerable amount of primates are endangered, would not be enough to eliminate them all, and least 5 mya |

Savannah rattleback![]() the savannah rattleback is perhaps some of the most extravagant and erroneous animals that can be found in the documentary, due to its strange characteristics. described the original as another relative species the desert ratttleback, mainly omnivorous, has a much more sophisticated armor which is comprised of large plates, and uses this armor as protection against carakillers. here there were too many details that had to change, the first was his appearance, because in the time in which evolves is rather to develop somehow a different body plan their northern relatives, so chances are that could resemble more like the NA rattleback. also other notable changes would weave their behavior. even could be omnivorous, but their diet consists of grasses would be more rather than bird eggs. his armor would not be so different from the armor of their northern relatives. might have more resistance, but would not be similar to the protection that had been given to the original rattleback. its size could be something between 1 and 2 meters long, would be a more robust version of the North |

Tatúrex![]() the Tatúrex, is one of the various inhabitants of the Amazon savannah, descendants of the common armadillos, it's a great armored omnivore of about 1.6 meters long. It feeds mainly on carrion, eggs, some plants and even insects. his great carapace offers a protection to different predators, but still turn a large burden, which makes it quite slow, even so, is capable of fast laps to find his strong tail blows. are a solitary species, only meeting with them for mating. They can have up to 4 offspring, the female during pregnancy and while this raising their offspring become so aggressive that leave no approach or members of their own species. they have a lifespan of 60 years. While this idea is to give a little more diversity to the savannah of the future, and honestly, I see that was in many ways better to put an armadillo, as the armored omnivorous, rather than make a rodent that changes its appearance to the a turtle-pangolin with a face that looks like a lizard. I do not know why it was decided to create a fantastic creature of nowhere if it already had an animal with the same characteristics, which only would need to grow and would be all Note: species noncanonical of the documentary |
