Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

What is Life to you?

The thing with swear words is that a lot of people in certain age range will put them in a sentence and use them almost every sentence for the sake of using swear words. Some people will use them like a normal word, and generally will use the base form more often. The ones that use them a lot for the point of it generally use the adjective form, with -ing at the end.

I don't even really like this song that much but the title is pretty relatable sometimes, I guess.

Troy Troodon, I'm sorry that life is so tough for you right now. We're here for you, man. Also know that there are tons of 24-hour services all over the world (that are free, btw) for if things ever get too tough and you feel like breaking.

I think the only meaning life has is whatever meaning humans give to it. Personally I don't bother with the why, I just go with the flow and live life as it comes, baby.

It's the dandy way to live.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

In a world where people care less for the art and more for the money, a world where good people get punished while bad people are rewarded, and any good person who does stick around only becomes a victim to the oppression they try to reform, and where creatures are on the verge of extinction, disputes occur over pointless objectives, people say and do things they know are wrong but do them anyway, be it something lessor like the use of profane language and the use of drugs and alcohol, or of course more heinous deeds like theft, kidnappings, rapes, intent destruction and murders... Or simply just because you have bad days, you feel lonely, isolated and useless... how does one get around this?

What do you people do to keep a positive insight on life and have faith in a world of hurtful truths and plausible chaos where faith itself has little purpose, or even makes things worse by blinding people to their own inevitability?

Could there possibly be more to life than just acceptance? What does Life mean to you?
Ah, the middle ages. Or were you talking about the Renaissance? Or the Roman era? The time of the Mongolian empire? The future?

The things you list have always been there since the 'invention' of sedentary society (and probably before that too), and the invention of language and alcohol and drugs for some of those things, and will be as long as all of these things exist.

Besides that, I agree with those that say 'go with the flow', because worrying too much and being depressed won't get you anywhere. And if you stop caring about alcohol, drugs (leave it to the professionals :p) and swear words, you've got three less problems to worry about.

To me, life is waiting and hoping for something terrible to happen. Something that would render billions of people unable to answer this question.

I wonder why that is. Could you elaborate, Olympian?

I must agree with Parasky here. Life per-se does not have a meaning, you are the one who must ascribe its meaning.

Also, if you happen to need anything, just ask ;)

Seriously, I'm curious. My comment was populicidal in nature, and Olympian liked it.

Perhaps yall need some lovin.
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

Not that I would know.
For me, Shrek is Life AND Love. Actually, life for me is about laughter and tears. Joy and sadness are what add depth to consciousness. Emotions are so powerful. Sorrow makes the good times sweeter, and what not. Sometimes just letting yourself sit and cry is just cleansing. Of course, happiness and fun are also great! It takes both sides for me.

Nah, whether we accept it or not does not matter. Our feeble wills and perspectives are laughably trivial. Our thoughts nothing but a product of outside stimulants that are themselves random and trivial.

Whatever meaning you choose to bestow upon life, it doesn't change things, and it never will. We don't know what we are calling 'life' in the first place, it's ridiculous trying to define something we don't know.
