Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I have my script written. All I have to do is wait, and if necessary improvise.
What's it about?
Like I said, wait.

To me, life is waiting and hoping for something terrible to happen. Something that would render billions of people unable to answer this question.

If you want some perspective into my thoughts on this, look into the basics of Christianity. I don't want to explain it here because I know most of you would find that really boring.

Wow this is a depressed bunch of people. Cheer up folks it's only life! :P

Anyway I'm an atheist so I personally believe there is no meaning in life except what meaning we make of it. As for me I don't really have a meaning for life, at least not yet. Right now I just try to get through day by day, trying to enjoy myself and most importantly become a better person.

Only life... ? Life is everything.

EDIT: Unless you're religious, in which case maybe not.

Agree with Zorcuspine. Y'all focus on all the depressing stuff way too much.

I get that life can be shitty and bad things are all over the place (don't know why you listed swear words as bad things, btw, Troodon; swear words are just words), but constantly dwelling on the bad things doesn't help anybody, especially yourself.

Me, I've always been an ignorer, even when that's a bad idea. Something bad happens, I ignore it. And whilst that does sometimes create problems, in the end I'm pretty happy. I surround myself only with genuinely nice, cool people who I actually wanna spend time with, I read a lot, go on Youtube, and generally just do things that make me happy.

I listed swear words... because they are BAD words. We've been told this since we were children, and yet people over the age of 18 say them just about everywhere, and we even see B---- Magazines in grocery stores as well a folks walking down the street with the f-word on they're shirts for everyone to see.

That does lead to the question of why we consider some words inherently bad and that they shouldn't be said. At least in my mind, but then again, I don't seem to grasp a lot of concepts 'normal' people just accept, so I may not be the best judge.

"Life is short and sadistic, so make love to it like a one-eyed double agent."
So basically, have sex with life as if you were Nick Fury on a mission. Got it.

As for the "bad" words, I actually watched a really interesting video about that. Basically, go back to medieval Europe, back when whether you were super rich and lived in a castle or whether you were so poor you literally lived in a house made of dung and grass was still an important thing.

Back then, the separation of the classes was so effective, it affected language. The rich had their own words and slang, as did the poor.

Thing is, a lot of the poor people's slang had to do with how much life sucked for them, meaning that there were many different ways of saying "Hey, Paul, can you pass me the bucket of dung?"

Naturally, being rich and all about cleanliness, rich people wanted absolutely nothing to do with dung, or any of the words for it. So they marked almost any slang exclusive to the lower classes as "bad words" that were not to be spoken in polite (read "rich") society.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why little kids get in trouble when they say things like "crap" or "shit."

Because a bunch of super rich people hundreds of years ago decided they didn't want to hear any more servants complaining about their houses made of shit.

May Specula Grant you Bountiful Spec!

What we consider "bad words" changes over time, usually with what's happening to people. Also I'm pretty sure that people saying curse words aren't what makes the world a seeming bad place, they're just words. It's like saying offensive jokes are what makes the world a seeming bad place. I just say get thicker skin.

As for what I do for a "coping mechanism", I just simply don't care that much. I'm not spiritual or religious in anyway, I just see the world what it is. Bad things happen, good things happen. I just try to be a nice person so that other people can have something good happen in their day. That's why I hold doors open for people when I can.
If I sound rude while critiquing, I apologize in hindsight!

The words are only "bad" because society continuously perpetuates the notion that they are bad. They are completely harmless. The only words that are actually bad are slurs.

A good portion of "bad words" are such because they were used to demean others to an incredible extent [or alongside ill treatment], were considered to hold actual power or significance, or culturally considered a dirty or undesirable concept.
