Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A clade of mostly-herbivorous flightless azhdarchids in the rainforests of Africa that have evolved into ape-like brachiators which have repurposed their wing finger into an opposable digit, and ground sloth-like browsers whose wing finger has evolved into a sharp claw used for defense and intraspecific combat.

I have seen something similar to that:

Also:
-A species of abelisaur that looks very similar to Charles R. Knight's Laelaps painting that uses the eagle-like talons on its feet to kill prey.
-A rauisuchid descendant that looks very similar to a Victorian-style Megalosaurus; an ambush hunter, but often scavenges as well.

I actually had something similar in a previous project of mine, but they were Tapejarids, if I remember correctly.

That's very interesting, but abelisaurs were already pretty used to using their jaws to kill prey, but maybe it could work with their close relatives, some kind of noasaur.

Myo

Another, admittedly rather silly, concept, is a no K-Pg scenario, and having one group (Lognkosaurs?) of all those giant south american sauropods surviving in the Carribean, as dwarfed island forms, with colorful paterns that eat a lot of fruit. They would be called "Titans of Paradise" and would be about small elephant/large rhino size.

I love that concept.

An idea of mine- A massive, sauropod-sized semi-aquatic descendant of Poposaurus evolved to occupy the large omnivore/piscivore niche akin to RL bears. These animals would retain bipedality, but their legs would become robust and elephant-like to support their weight, as well as a long, heavy tail to balance out the heavy forequarters. The snout would be shorter than that of their ancestors, and instead they would use powerful, muscular forelimbs to forage or kill prey, much like mammalian bears. The resulting creature would look exactly like a miniature version of the 2014 Godzilla.

I was thinking about this part about ankylosaurs having enlarged tongues, and it got me thinking: What if a diminutive species evolved a large, colorful tongue as a sort of display device? Obviously, the tongue would have to be enlarged further (perhaps this could be an island endemic), and I'm not knowledgeable on how changing the color of a tongue works biologically, but I think it's a fun little idea.

Why don't you write something up and enter it in the COM? It could be cool...Obviously its your choice just a suggestion...

A large, predatory frog descendant that uses a tongue tipped with a venomous barb to kill prey, following them until the venom kills them for maximum hunting efficiency. Perhaps they are descended from any of the frogs with poisonous secretions and simply lick their own skin to acquire the poison for the barb.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Not really spinosaurid-like in anatomy, but I tried this once.

Remember when I posted that awesome idea about cloud walking organisms, Parasky? What about ones that rain out of the clouds. But spend a lot of time in them. Little ice crystal monsters.

Or their little feet are so teeny tiny that they can grasp individual ice crystals to move around in the cloud with an almost lighter than air body.

Edit: Isn't there some pressure difference between clouds and open air? A lighter than air organism could be jut a bit more buoyant than the cloud but less buoyant than open air.

Many bacteria have a life cycle that involves them living in the upper atmosphere and coming back to the surface in rain, so it isn't entirely implausible but I doubt that it would work with anything macroscopic.

How about a giant evolved amphibian with vestigial hind limbs that lies under mud, when an animal passes by it triggers receptors in the jaw and the animal lunges up like a crocodile and incapacitates it with mild venom and strong front limbs. i imagine then to be about 4-5m long and preys on large ungulates.

A family of rhino-sized quadrupedal bats descended from the leaf-nosed bat whose noses have developed into defensive shields. A few species have long horns or spines in place of the frill.

I'm not sure how plausible this is, but: an abelisarid native to the Amazon rainforest that is sort of a land-wobbegong. It's an ambush predator that remains still for long periods of time in areas where sauropods and other large herbivores gather. Dirt tends to build up between its scales due to its long periods of inactivity, and mosses and plants grow on it, providing it with camouflage. When a herbivore gets close enough, the abelisaur strikes, usually biting the herbivore on the leg, crippling it. The abelisaur has surprisingly good stamina, allowing it to pursue its wounded prey until it collapses from exhaustion or blood loss.
