Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Proud quilt in a bag

So I was skimming through some old topics, and found a (very short, almost pointless) topic about what the faeries from the Artemis Fowl series evolved from. For those who have read the series and know what they are, their implausibly diverse form, and their potentially impossible adaptions, I would like to point out that an off comment in the first book states they may have evolved from... pterosaurs. So yeah.

Evolved from Pterosairs and not only havean extremely recognizable civilization but nearly all of them but for Goblins and Trolls are recognizably humanoid.

Sure thing, Eoin Colfee.

A chalicothere-like posthuman: part of a family of sloth-like and ape-like browsers.
A family of apelike feline creatures living in the trees descended from nimravids-a more realistic striger.

Not sure about the latter, but the former is reasonable- that could tie in to Akurians project.
As for my own ideas, perhaps an eusocial dycinodont similar to, though far more complex than naked mole rats, with various castes, living in an alternate timelines deserts and later other habitats as they diversify?

They can't be 'ape-like', because they're already apes. That's like saying Bees are 'insect-like'.

It is already Chalicothere-like, so isn't that a bit redundant?

To which degree can these beings be considered apelike? That's important.

Some species would look like chalicotheres, some like gorillas or orangutans.

For the cats, I meant in the same vein as the striger.

Alternate higher oxygen earth allows for the development of coconut crabs convergent on simians and apes.

The posthumans make more sense now.

Strigers... Well, this could work, but not exactly as depicted by Dixon. I mean, that thing is horribly skinny, and those exposed vertebrae... I doubt that would work out.

Well, I meant as in both the striger and these ape-cats would be arboreal carnivores with primate-like body plans.

Another, admittedly rather silly, concept, is a no K-Pg scenario, and having one group (Lognkosaurs?) of all those giant south american sauropods surviving in the Carribean, as dwarfed island forms, with colorful paterns that eat a lot of fruit. They would be called "Titans of Paradise" and would be about small elephant/large rhino size.
