Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Oooh maybe 20 foot long plant eating crocodiles that both gallop and swim.
Theoritically anything is possible, one just needs to think hard enough. But what is theoretically possible may not be possible in practice.

Religion, rationality, and civilization are all lies, they are simply manifestations of basic instincts.

Mammales that reproduce by exploding. We can call the Michalbayforme. When the females reach a certaint age after mating, their uterus explodes and a bunch of babies go every where like whoosh and swish and boom! Yep, sound perfectly plausible.

He didn't do anything. He just suggested a humorous idea for kicks.

The problem is, he's been spamming this idea for the past week, after reviving an old thread where it had come up.

Anyhow, actual concept I thought of today: a bird that pecks holes in trees not (or not only) to drink the sap, but to use it as adhesive for holding a nest together/on the tree. The sap might also attract bugs-- which could be fed to nestlings. Not sure if that's really workable.

Oh.

How about a species of wild cat descended from fishing cats that evolve an amphibious lifestyle?

I had a idea once of a large (think Rhino- Elephant) sized, Crow descendant that behaves similarly to Elephant Birds of the Pleistocene. They would be omnivorous, and have a large covering of thick feathers due to the Ice Age climate they live in. They would live in Northern Asia (Russia and Mongolia) and would essentially be the biggest herbivores. These birds belonged to a (Scrapped at the moment) project I thought of that describes a Ice Age dominated by bird descendants rather than Mammal descendants, kind of like a reverse Eocene.

How about in an alternative earth where Terror Birds survived to the modern day and one became a polar bear like predator with large feet for swimming, thick feathers for insulation and a specially designed beak for punching through the ice to get seal pups

I think old Sheatheria had something similar to that, but with a spinosaur.

Zebras or not, it's really annoying that you clog up threads with quite frankly non-funny humor that's completely non-serious when people are trying to discuss serious possibilities.
